22.01.2022 As we head into NAIDOC week, we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and that this Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal land. As service designers and humans, we’re thinking about our role in healing racial inequality and the systems that uphold it, and in creating new systems of inclusion and regeneration. And as always, we are looking for what each of us can do today to take action and start to make change: Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesse...s check out Supply Nation and Trading Blak to find businesses in your local area. Make a donation to an Aboriginal-led organisation working for equality and justice. MAKE loves Children's Ground - an organisation that supports the transmission of cultural knowledge. Begin meetings or presentations with an Acknowledgement of country. In this year of video meetings, invite people joining from other parts of the country to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land they are calling in from. Find three Indigenous Australians to follow on your favourite social media platform to diversify your feed and the stories you're hearing. Reflect upon your own worldview and unconscious biases you might have. Do the work to challenge yourself and the mental models you carry with you. Visit National NAIDOC to learn more about Australia’s rich First Nations heritage, and to find out what’s on. Let us all make this week an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal culture, pay our deepest respects, and commit to bringing this into the year ahead.

06.01.2022 As designers, our role is to tell stories about the people who engage with our services, products and organisations, so its essential we’re able to convey how they feel. Drawing expressive people can be intimidating but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Simple lines can be used to mimic body language: Open arms and arms that take up space = assertive, positive postures... Closed arms and arms held close to the body = uncertain, more negative postures Try experimenting with your own combinations to tell your story. Learn more about drawing people (and basically anything else you like) at our next Drawing for Work workshops on September 22 and 24. Only a few spots left! https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/drawing-for-work-tickets-11
