17.01.2022 Calling Sunshine Coast Dialysis Patients! Are you interested in playing with 3D printers? Do you want to learn how to create digital designs on an iPad? Would you like to be part of a trial - a digital design and fabrication program for dialysis patients - a world first!... We're searching for 6 or so Sunshine Coast based dialysis patients to help develop the Makeway Lab, Dialysis Program. The Makeway Lab is a fab lab or makerspace programmed to improve the mental and physical health of hospital patients. The space is equipped with interactive and digital design and fabrication technology such as, iPads, portable 3D printers, digital scanners and cutters. This project will see the development of the first program designed for people living with kidney disease and trial and research the activities to gauge their benefit for the participants. The project will establish a collective of patient designers and deliver an exhibition and popup shop to showcase and sell their work. For this project the Makeway Lab will be a portable facility (one bench trolley) that can be located within the dialysis unit. The participants will develop their skills and designs while having treatment using specific software and guided by experts.
