15.01.2022 With issues of mental health and wellbeing becoming increasingly prominent while the pandemic lasts, a central question for music is how it can play a positive role in helping to bring about positive changes in people’s lives. In July, an international panel entitled ‘Music, Wellbeing & COVID-19: How Can Music Contribute to Our Health?’ was convened by the Spanish strategic consultancy Sound Diplomacy through its Music Cities Events initiative, which works towards enhancing music’s place in the urban environment. 09.01.2022 A choirmaster and vodka headache... On the breakwater at the surf beach in Brunswick Heads a group of men are reverently singing a rousing Russian revolutionary song. They are dressed as Russian workers, in cloth caps. There is emotional conviction and Russian passion in this song about solidarity. But, in fact, none of these comrades have ever been anywhere near the Motherland, seen a windswept steppe, or traversed a frozen tundra. Nor do any of them speak Russian (although ...they do like a vodka). In his impressive fake Russian accent, master of ceremonies for the choir, Mark Swivel, explains: "Dustyesky is the leading genuine fake Russian choir in southern hemisphere. "We are 28 men, middle-aged, very hairy, and we all live outside the tiny little hamlet of Mullumbimby or, as we call it, Mullumgrad. Have a listen... they sound amazing!!! https://amp.abc.net.au/article/12270670

09.01.2022 Its safe to say that there has never been a figure in the ukulele world who has provoked as much derision, dismissal, and out-and-out hostility as the late-’60s uke-playing phenomenon known as Tiny Tim.
