25.01.2022 One of our junior mentors, Summer (Summer Farrelly and Other Projects) had lots of fun with the Elkei education kits. To quote Summer "We love the Elkei Education kits they are amazzzzing." As it turns out, one of Emerson's creations, the soldering station, worked very well when combined with these Elkei kits (Elkei Education). Join us in the Makerspace for some awesome STEM fun.

21.01.2022 As we all know, we are all more cautious of washing our hands! Our Hervey Bay Makerspace is making hand washing a little more fun!! Clients and staff used the Arduino kit to create our new addition - Hand Washing Timer The Arduino is connected to an ultrasonic distance sensor with 6 LEDs. The sensor picks up physical movement, which then creates your 20 second count down! Each blue light will come on after 5 seconds, and on the last blue light, then a green light will come o...n, to let us know that our 20 second hand washing time is up! Keep an eye on our page for more cool projects, and keep safe. From the Hervey Bay Makerspace! :)

It has been verified that the motor works and we are currently working on all of the mechanical systems as well. Small progress is still progress!

16.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the ongoing contributions they make to Australian society. This also encourages everyone to take pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their strengths and their connection to culture. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliati...on in Australia. NRW is book-ended by two significant dates that all Australians can be proud of the anniversaries of the successful 1967 Referendum* (May 27th) and the High Court Mabo land rights decision* (June 3rd) *27th May is the anniversary of the historic 1967 Referendum, where Australians voted to amend two parts of the Constitution that excluded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The 1967 vote was the highest ever yes vote in a Referendum - some people say it was the most unifying moment in our history. *3rd June is the anniversary of the 1992 landmark High Court Mabo decision, which rejected terra nullius ('land belonging to no one') and recognised First Nations people as traditional custodians of Australia for the first time. The Mabo Decision legally and symbolically acknowledged the truth and changed the way we all think about Australia's history.
