25.01.2022 Message from our wonderful librarians Last week we had the Grand Opening of our term 2 Enchanted Forest Book Fair. There are 16 cases full of a wonderful variety of books, an array of stationary and so many cool posters. During the rest of this week, students will be viewing the fair with their classes to fill in their wish lists. Last week a catalogue was sent home with the following information: ** Students will attend the Book Fair in the library and make out a Wish List... (younger pupils will receive help with this) Wish Lists will then be sent home to see if you would like to purchase any items. A blank copy of a Wish List will also be provided as we understand that you may not want to purchase all of the items that your child has selected. All payments need to made online at https://parentpayments.scholastic.com.au/BookFairs Enter the amount that you wish to pay. You will then be given an 8-digit receipt number which you should write on the back of the Wish List along with your details. You are effectively buying a voucher that can then be exchanged for any items at the Book Fair. Your child will then bring this to school and visit the library at a designated time. Orders will be picked and given to your child to bring home. Although every effort will be made to ensure your child brings home the correct item, we understand that there could be some errors or change of minds. If there is a discrepancy, please contact us and we will resolve it as best we can. ** Please click on the link to view what is available: https://sway.office.com/tu0xdPzHgt35GrF2?ref=Link If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Maclean and myself in the library. 9523 5900 Thank you for supporting our Book Fair and our Library. 25.01.2022 This week our students from years 5 and 6 were fortunate to be visited by Luci Marsh, as part of the Olympics Unleashed Program. Luci is local West Australian Water Polo player who has her sights set on the 2024 Olympics. The Olympics Unleashed program takes Olympians and athletes aspiring to the Tokyo Games and beyond, into Australian schools to inspire and motivate students to be their personal best. Luci spoke to our students about resiliency, goal setting and shared her life motto Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard. Our students wished Luci all the very best with her Olympic aspirations!
24.01.2022 Tomorrow morning pedestrian cross over linemarking will be occuring in the shopping centre carpark outside of our Administration building. This is great news in helping to keep our children safe when crossing through at the beginning and the end of the day. For tomorrow there will be no access to this carpark via Portman Parade for parents to drop off & pick up. We have been advised that access will be not be available until early afternoon.
23.01.2022 We hope you all enjoy the rest of the holidays and we look forward to welcoming our students back for Term Three on Wednesday 22 July!

23.01.2022 On Fridays, our Makybe Rise PS staff wear jeans and also donate money to a chosen charity. We do this so we can support organisations and people who help others in our community. Today our donations for wearing jeans are going to support FaceUp, a Western Australian charity that provides support and empowerment to people with visible facial differences. Their message is simple: kindness for all no matter how you look. Their ‘I Choose Kindness’ Initiative also ties in with F...ace Equality Week 2021. The aim of the initiative is to promote awareness about inclusive behaviour and the act of simple kindness through the sharing of stories and promoting discussion about what it’s like to look different, and how our actions can affect others. People with a visible facial difference, be it through a genetic condition, birth defect or through burning of accidental scarring, do not always feel included or treated with kindness. Our staff bought and wore one of FaceUp’s ‘I Choose Kindness’ wristbands as a visible reminder of kindness an inclusion. See more

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE Phase 3 Revised Term 2 arrangements from Week 7, Monday 8 June 2020 We were pleased today, to receive a comprehensive set of guidelines to assist us in school planning for Phase 3 of the WA COVID-19 Road Map. We have been advised by the Department of Education that parents/carers and visitors may come on to school sites to attend pre-arranged meetings and for drop off and pick up purposes. However, this is to be limited to a maximum of 100 people with phys...ical distancing of one person per 2 square metres and good hygiene practices applied. As a large school with a student population of 915 students this will require some careful management. As of Monday 8 June, only the parents of our 200 students in Kindy and Pre-Primary (who must be dropped off and picked up by an adult each day) will be able to drop off and pick up at the classroom door. The school day will finish at our regular time of 2:55pm for all students. All other parents will continue to successfully drop off and pick up at the school gates. We will continue to have staff members at the gates around the school in the mornings and afternoons to assist students where necessary. Our staff members have commented on our amazing, independent students, who have responsibly entered school, organised their materials and settled seamlessly into the morning routine. I hope you are all feeling incredibly proud, I know I am. Kindy and Pre-primary Arrangements Kindy parents can enter the school grounds to walk their children to and from class. Class teachers will greet children at the door and parents are asked to say a quick goodbye at the door and not enter the classroom. Physical distancing of one person per 2 square metres applies so parents are asked to arrive in the morning for a brisk drop off. School will finish at the regular time of 2:55pm. Class teachers will ensure that the children are ready for a prompt pick up at the end of the day. The playground area will remain closed before and after school. Pre-primary parents will continue to successfully drop off in the morning and pick up at the regular finish time of 2:55pm at the external classroom doors. A very big thank you to all our Makybe families for the support and assistance you have shown us over the last 2 terms. As per the WA COVID-19 Road Map, all school activities will be reviewed in preparation for Phase 4, and we will continue to keep you informed. Karen Povey Principal
14.01.2022 Due to the photographers setting up tomorrow for our school photos we have had to cancel breakfast club. We will be returning as normal on Thursday at 8.15am. Thank you for your understanding.
09.01.2022 Dear Makybe Rise Families I want to thank you again for your support throughout what has been a very unusual school semester. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our entire community and has presented us with extraordinary challenges in managing schooling during the first half of 2020. I am pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your child’s safety and continuity of learning. With the regular attendance of many students being lo...wer over this time, the breadth and depth of the curriculum covered throughout Semester One may have been reduced. For this reason, schools are not required to include A to E grades on this year’s Semester One student reports. It also means that your child’s attendance will not appear on their Semester One report. Schooling is once again returning to normal and our students are engaging in the regular curriculum, in their usual classroom environment. Semester Two reports will reflect this and therefore provide the usual, more detailed information on your child’s progress and achievement. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. As we progress, I’ll be sure to keep you updated with any new information. Kind regards Karen Povey Principal Makybe Rise PS
09.01.2022 Phase 4 Revised Term 2 arrangements from Week 10, Monday 29 June 2020 Dear Makybe Families We are pleased to have received a comprehensive set of guidelines outlining the easing of restrictions in Phase 4 of the WA Road Map. We have been advised by the Department of Education that parents/carers and visitors may come on to school sites to attend meetings and for drop off and pick up purposes. Physical distancing of one adult per two square metres and good hygiene practices ...apply. Please support us by following the physical distancing requirements while you are on school grounds. As a large school with a student population of 915 students, we are relying on our parent community to support us in managing this return to our standard practices. Our students have visibly improved their independent skills, and each morning we have appreciated the way in which they have quickly organised their materials and settled into the morning routines. We would greatly appreciate you encouraging your child to maintain these independent skills. If you feel comfortable successfully dropping and picking up your child at the school gates, we would fully support you to do so. Kindy and Pre-primary Arrangements Kindy and Pre-primary are the only two year levels where our students are required to be dropped off and picked up by an adult at their classroom. As of Monday, we will return to PP students being dropped off and picked up at the internal (onsite) classroom doors. Access will no longer be available via the external doors. You may enter the classrooms, however, the one adult per two square metres applies. Please be mindful of this at all times. As we enter Phase 4, we are busy planning to bring back many of the community building events and activities that we love. Assemblies, camp, excursions, incursions, choir, lunchtime clubs, interschool sports and swimming programs are all back on the Term Planner! We are all very pleased that the increased cleaning measures will remain in place for Term 3, meaning we have cleaning staff working throughout the day to keep our school sparkling. We appreciate your ongoing support in keeping children who are unwell at home. Combined with the increased cleaning and frequent hand-washing this has greatly assisted in keeping our school community healthy. Finally, I would like to send a very big thank you to all our Makybe families for the support and assistance you have shown us in Semester One. As per the WA COVID-19 Road Map, all school activities will be reviewed in preparation for Phase 5, and we will continue to keep you informed. Karen Povey Principal
08.01.2022 We look forward to welcoming our students back for Term 4 on Monday 12 October! We would also like to inform you that the Traffic Warden who works at the Children’s Crossing on Makybe Drive near Jezabeel Street is unable to work Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October. Unfortunately the WA Police Traffic Warden Unit have no relief staff available to cover the position and they have asked us to remind our school community to be vigilant whilst crossing without a warden present. We will have Makybe Rise PS staff members on duty near the crossing area to assist our families in the morning and afternoon.
06.01.2022 Lucky last day for Book Fair tomorrow We have been blown away by the support and have loved seeing the students excitement and engagement in our Enchanted Forest We are out of certain items now due to the unprecedented support and not sure if we’ll be able to get them again. Most books can be reordered by us but posters, stationary and pointers possibly won’t be restocked. If you have selected an item that is out of stock we will aim to offer a suitable alternative Once again thank you so much for your fantastic support and helping us to spread a little Makybe Magic, 35% of any purchase goes straight back to the library for new books and resources
05.01.2022 MAKYBE PRIMARY STUDENTS AT PARLIAMENT If you need your faith in the future restored, just spend some time with some of our local young people, like these stude...nts from Makybe Rise Primary School I spent time with these year 6 students today in Parliament and I was just so impressed by their intelligence, insight and positivity. They asked incredible questions and were delightfully well mannered and interesting to be with. I was just so impressed. Our future is in good hands with young people like this. They showed a keen interest in learning about government. Thanks Abbey, Jaimee, Charlotte, Hamish and Josh and your teacher Mrs Maisano. Good luck with high school next year and keep pursuing all your interests - art and fashion design, politics, sport, baking and decorating, AFL and lots more. (and chocolate tart!)
