23.01.2022 Hi, Just joined your group and really enjoy checking out your page, I thought you people might like my book published last year, 'Maladies and Remedies' website http//www.maladiesandremedies.com.au Traditional bush medicine and tropical cultural herbalism in Oz. Fix yourself up in the bush. Cheers Steve.

20.01.2022 Our Western diet lacks foods with a bitter taste; our blood requires this principle for a healthy balance and hence a common cause for illness in our western societies is from this lack. This bitter principle is found in many foods, however in the tropics and throughout Asia one plant stands alone as an important bitter tonic and blood purifier. The Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) is used extensively as a food in Asia and is found in market stalls in Australia, however it ...is little used because of the western palates aversion to bitter foods, much to the detriment of our health. The unripe fruits are eaten in curries and stir fries, in spicy condiments and snacks; my favorite way; stuffed with savory meat or rice then stewed in a soup with rice noodles. At first the flavor is unpleasant but the appetite stimulant properties have sent guests for lunch clambering for more. The medicinal qualities are legendary and include conditions of the heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, endocrine, and for hormonal balancing. Valuable for treating conditions such as cancer, asthma, boils, fever, eyesight, impotence, arthritis and inflammation. Do yourself a favor and give it a spin. The benefits are immediately felt. For more info check out my website http://www.maladiesandremedies.com.au The internet is also a valuable tool for information and plant identification. Cheers Steve. See more

11.01.2022 The 'Maladies and Remedies' Web-site is up and running and a review has been published in the October issue of Nexus magazine. Amazing the amount of people interested in this subject, including naturopaths, gardeners, bushwalkers & campers, the Army, Conservationists, 4WD clubs, survivalists and preppers, adventure and outdoor education groups. One lady just likes looking at the pictures. The E book should be available soon, enjoy.

10.01.2022 I now have a Web-page- http://www.maladiesandremedies.com.au It' getting an Image gallery and will have a Contents section over the next few weeks. The book has a review in Nexus Magazine in October. It seems many people have an interest in this subject at one time or another. I particularly have a keen interest when I’m in pain. Enjoy, Steve.

10.01.2022 Hello everyone this is the page for my new book Maladies and Remedies. I hope you like it and find it interesting and useful.

09.01.2022 One of the few plants that features in nearly every chapter of my herb book is the Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) To obtain the medicinal benefits, the fruit pulp is eaten fresh, infused as tea, made into decoction, or the pulp can be placed as a poultice for external conditions. The fruit is cooling and laxative, helpful for convalescents and with salt added is used as a liniment to relieve rheumatism. The heartwood is said to be purgative, the seed coat and bark is astringen...t. The shoots are placed in a medical bath and the leaves are crushed onto ringworm. An infusion of the leaves is taken for fever and used externally for ulcers and sore eyes. For stomach complaints, the bark is chewed as a masticatory or eaten in lieu of clay, by pregnant woman but also by men. A paste of the seeds is applied to boils. The fruit pulp is germicidal, and is used in weight loss mixtures, for fevers, mucus congestion and catarrh, laryngitis, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, oedema, jaundice, intestinal parasites, and conditions such as inflammatory, liver, digestive and bilious disorders. The fruit is made into a cooling drink in hot weather. For the uses of more wonderful plants check out my book and website http://www.maladiesandremedies.com.au See more

08.01.2022 Ceylon Spinach (Basella rubra) Not just an iron packed green vegetable, easily grown in the tropics, the mucilaginous leaves are cooling and used as a poultice for headache and bandaged over ulcers and eczema. Eaten as a green vegie, they are rich in chlorophyll, are blood building and stimulate stomach, liver and pancreatic secretions, intestinal flora and digestive enzymes. Consumption of the leaves help remove toxins and mucous, clear the complexion and help with fluid retention. 06.01.2022 We all have health issues we need to manage. Commonly the stomach and digestive health is a cause for attention, either from poor diet, incorrect food accompaniment, lack of hydration, over consumption of alcohol or illness. The following is a list of plants that I grow and consume in North Queensland to promote good digestive health. These plants are also valuable in the treatment of other complaints such as various internal disorders, respiratory conditions, disease, rheuma...tic and nervous complaints and are used as tonics and general medicines; garlic, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, tamarind, lime and lemon juice, mother of herbs, aibika and melokhia, cucumber, lemon grass, cilantro, curry leaf, morinda, raspberry, chia seed, ceylon spinach, bitter gourd, neem, brahmi, gotu kola and parsley. You can read about these wonderful plants in my book "Maladies and Remedies". Check out my website http://www.maladiesandremedies.com.au See more

01.01.2022 The Soursop (Annona muricata) Native of tropical America, has become a very popular modern treatment for cancer and its prevention. The leaves are infused as a tea which is drunk daily. The fruits are also eaten as a further aid in cancer prevention, either as a smoothie (pushed through a coarse sieve), as an ice or as a fresh fruit. A fermented drink like cider is made in the West Indies. Check out my book; 'Maladies and Remedies' http://www.maladiesandremedies.com.au
