23.01.2022 Please consider donating towards Wylee’s family. I would imagine that this fund has been set up to assist with funeral costs at their time of loss. Wylee was a much-loved Maleny High student who played rugby for Caloundra rugby club. We lost him last week whilst swimming at Gardner Falls after school. Whilst I did not know him personally, he is very highly spoken of as a gentle and fun young man by all who did.

22.01.2022 The year that was, when Covid-19 hit, it pretty much wiped out the Bushrangers. But with keen dedication from some under 10 boys we are able to combine with Nambour Toads (this was the Toads first season back into the comp in 10 years) 7 Maleny boys and 8 Nambour (soccer playing) kids joined forces to learn, grow and develop together. Coach Luke has been amazing, patient and very proud of all the kids. We call ourselves the BushToads, with 50/50 jerseys only loosing 3 games out of 12 all season. Great effort guys, the rugby stays alive in you. A huge thanks to APEX Maleny for sponsoring us, and Sunshine Mitre 10.

22.01.2022 Today we had the devastating news of a cherished young life lost . A Maleny student and a rugby player who played for Caloundra, everyone speaks so highly of Wylee Byun. As a mark of respect to Wylee, his family and friends, both the semi-final Junior Colts games scheduled for this evening at Noosa were cancelled. The Bushrangers rugby presentations will proceed tomorrow (Saturday 7th September at 4pm) and we will observe a minute of silence before our break-up presentations... tomorrow to remember Wylee, and will be creating a Message Board for his family. We will urge our teens who knew him to use the time together afterwards to talk to and support one another, to the adults present, or ask for counselling if they need someone to talk to, which we can arrange. We realise that at a time like this, everyone responds differently. Some may prefer to stay away, some may seek out their friends and value the opportunity to come together. All are welcome, whether they have a connection to rugby or not as it is our desire to be there for our community at this time.

14.01.2022 MEASLES ALERT SUNSHINE COAST A local Sunshine Coast person has been diagnosed with measles after presenting to Sunshine Coast University Hospital on Wednes...day, 4 September. The patient was unknowingly infectious while visiting the following locations: Caloundra Lighthouse Rugby Union Club, Arthur Street Caloundra on: > Saturday 31 August between 11.30-2.30pm Poinciana Place Shopping Centre, Poinciana Avenue Tewantin on: > Sunday 1 September between 7:00am-4.30pm > Monday 2 September between 6.30am-9.30am. People who were in these areas at the same time should seek medical advice if they develop measles symptoms. The initial symptoms of measles include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash which often starts on the face and then becomes widespread over the body. If you have any of the measles symptoms contact your GP and remember it is VERY important to call the medical practice first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid spreading it to others. Anyone born after 1965 who was in these areas and who has not been fully vaccinated against measles (two doses of MMR) should contact their GP. The measles vaccine is provided free for any person born after 1965. For more information on the measles virus visit the Queensland Health website or call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for more information. (Note: image is not of diagnosed patient - this is merely the best image to show one of the symptoms).

03.01.2022 Queensland Rugby Union statement regarding community Rugby and COVID-19 Following the announcement by Rugby Australia this afternoon relating to COVID-19 and community rugby across Australia, Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) will suspend all affiliated and sanctioned community Rugby competitions - including training - until Saturday, 2 May 2020. The sanctioning of competitions is one of the QRU’s key responsibilities, along with full compliance with our public health responsibili...ties around grass-roots Rugby. During this time, the QRU is encouraging clubs and other affiliated bodies to follow public health information and procedures regarding containment of the spread of COVID-19, from the World Health Organisation, Australian Federal Government, Rugby Australia and Queensland Health. There are immediate logistical issues for clubs affiliated to the QRU, meaning clubs would often exceed the mandatory Federal Government mass-gathering policy. The recommended suspension would leave a window from Saturday 2 May through to Saturday 12 September 2020, preserved for local club competitions to be played, if circumstances allow. Schools Rugby governance will continue to sit with the relevant principal and associated administrations. QRU CEO David Hanham said: This public health emergency we’re working through is unprecedented and today’s announcement on community Rugby takes into account all the relevant information provided by public health bodies, government and Rugby Australia. We’re putting in place policies and procedures that don’t place players, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders at unnecessary risk. This moratorium on community Rugby also allows the QRU time to plan at the community level and implement new participation/competition structures that would allow Queenslanders to participate in Rugby within the designated window, should circumstances allow. We will continue work with our clubs and affiliate bodies on measures to assist them during this challenging period, we’re mindful that this global heath-crisis is bigger than sport and the health and welfare of the communities of Queensland remain our priority.
