14.01.2022 Long post....but please read to the end, thank you. What an odd year we have had, from shut downs to lockdowns, to being able to reopen with restrictions. So many cancellations for bookings had to be made which has been hard on so many of our regular uses and community groups. Now with restrictions some of our hirers are still finding starting up again difficult, but fingers crossed we will be back to some kind of normal soon. Throughout all of this I was lucky enough to be ...one of the few that have been able to keep my job, for which I have been so grateful. I'd like thank the amazing MCC Committee and the support of our wonderful regular hirers and community groups. Yesterday I received an email from Andrew Powell's office. After such a tumultuous year I was delighted to think that our beautiful centre had been nominated for a small business award. Then shocked and so appreciative to discover that the nomination was for myself. I am so grateful to be nominated for this special award and would just like to say a huge thank you. I thoroughly enjoy what I do, I am passionate about the Maleny Community Centre and strive to make it continue to be successful in serving our community. Maleny Community Centre is one of the few Community Halls that are still owned and managed by our members and I am determined to do my best to ensure it stays that way. 08.01.2022 Songwriter and renowned storyteller Darren Hanlon plays the Maleny Community Centre this coming Friday, just a few tickets left! The usual globetrotting folk singer has had a reflective time this year like the rest of us. Narrowly escaping the US on one of the last commercial flights before lockdown, he returned to his native QLD where his partner Shelley Short and he had their first child. He’ll be bringing his whole family for this his first ever show in Maleny with Shelley... (who’s also normally circling the Globe as part of the Neko Case band) opening the night with her own beguiling folk songs. 05.01.2022 One more week until the waste workshops. We've love to know what your organisation thinks about the future of waste in our region. Please RSVP if you haven't already and come along. Sunshine Coast Council invites a representative from your organisation to attend two workshops about council’s waste services. ... To support a thriving community now and into the future, it is critical that we manage our energy, waste and natural resources efficiently and sustainably, which is why council is working through actions from our Sunshine Coast Waste Strategy 2015 2025. These actions require us to explore how waste and resource recovery on the Sunshine Coast will look in the future. During these workshops, we hope to gain your ideas and feedback to help guide any future changes. Key issues that will be discussed in the workshops include: development of an Alternative Waste Technology (AWT) approach to harness the potential value of resources which have traditionally been discarded into landfill explore options to change the current waste collection system. This is the first stage of council’s project to engage our community on the future of waste and resource recovery for the Sunshine Coast. More workshops will be held with key stakeholders and we will ask the entire Sunshine Coast to provide their thoughts through a region-wide community survey in February 2021. Please note: Participation numbers are restricted for these workshops so we invite only one representative per group or organisation to attend. Please ensure that your representatives is able to attend both workshops in the selected location (this is a must). All venues in the Maleny Community Centre precinct will be closed effective immediately until further notice.
