25.01.2022 One of my favourite little memories from the campaign last year and one that, for me, kind of symbolised the generosity of so many people in looking after me an...d taking the time to teach me about their communities, was coming home from Robinvale with a beautiful string of chilli's grown by former Cr (and community institution) John Katis. This is the last one going in with some calamari. Hope he'd approve. See more

24.01.2022 Been keeping an eye out for something positive to share for a bit. This is just about perfect! Look out for each other.

23.01.2022 Pretty interesting article about the longer term political culture in NZ. Seems like for a fair while over there, voters in general have rewarded and valued politicians and parties from both the left and right, that are perceived to be sensible and competent rather than partisan cowboys.

23.01.2022 Whole show desperately needs a circuit breaker, and this is a very solid concept! The fed gov can't afford to let the opportunity slip, including the necessary follow-ups to make sure the industry has a long term sustainable workforce. Anyone heard a position on this from Anne Webster - Federal Member for Mallee?

22.01.2022 This post is a truly brilliant articulation of the relationship I believe representatives of all stripes and at all levels of government should aspire to have with their communities. The pride and passion and somewhat one-eyed loyalty absolutely drips off the page.

18.01.2022 The 'Friends of the Oasis' initiative was very well received when it was launched just over twelve months ago. Many people took up the memberships, with all pro...ceeds going towards the sustainability of our amazing community asset. The Rainbow Innovation Centre, the ‘Bellroom Books’ community library and the 'Old School Sessions’ concerts are just a few of the many things that are flourishing as a result. For most the membership period began on July 1 2019, which means it is now up for renewal. We realise that it has been a challenging year for many, and if you are unable to continue on with your membership that is understandable. If you do wish to renew, or wish to become a member for the first time, you can see Robyn at the motel or transfer $20 directly into our bank account using the following details: BSB: 063737 Account No: 10001050 Account Name: Rainbow Progress Association *** Please be sure to use your name in the transaction description/reference *** As part of your membership you will receive email updates of the latest activities at the Oasis and be offered priority tickets to our events. (New members: please send us your email address so that you can be included). We thank you for your support.

17.01.2022 Great project! Fantastic fella!

15.01.2022 Keen to know more about The Mallee book? Let Adam McNicol, the Manangatang boy behind the project, fill you in

15.01.2022 This is timely.

14.01.2022 Theory. Patchewollock is literally the centre of the universe. Discuss....

13.01.2022 Good excuse to do something positive, (big or small) for your or someone else's mental health. Two sides of the same coin anyway. #RUOK

04.01.2022 Parliament not sitting much at the moment. Just sayin'.......

02.01.2022 The word "Integrity" has been ringing in my head in the context of Federal Parliament for a long time. Now, after last night's revelations about the Attorney General, literally the "First Law Officer of the Crown in right of the Commonwealth of Australia", who is currently, "in theory" tasked, with delivering a long-overdue election promise of a Federal Integrity Commission, I've got alarm bells going off left right and centre. Please consider a quick read about Indi Independ...ent Helen Haines' proposal to implement this incredibly important body, in a non-partisan, well thought out way. Unlike the government rhetoric about being too busy, I think the backdrop of Covid recovery and the likelihood of big government spending as economic stimulus in the near future, (and the temptation that will come with this,) makes Federal Integrity Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) something we need right now. Of particular importance is the comparison, in terms of intent, "teeth" if you like, between Helen's bill and the draft government one, (Scroll to the bottom.) and the need to find ways to pressure local MPs, (letters etc), so that they know explicitly that this is what the vast majority of Australians want to start tidying up some of the frankly, comically appalling behaviour we keep seeing out of Canberra. #Integrity #FedICACnow https://www.helenhaines.org/about/bills

01.01.2022 Feeling cautiously optimistic this morning. Today Indi Independent Helen Haines will table a bill in Parliament that would see a Federal Integrity Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) established. The ever increasing lack of accountability in Federal Parliament in recent years needs a solution badly, and this has the potential to be a crucial first step. How can any Government tackle the future challenges Australia is facing if we flat out don't trust them? I've had a few con...versations with "Canberra" people over the years along the lines of "I know how it looks sometimes, but most pollies are decent enough people trying to do the right thing". Ok fair enough, if that's the case then let's shine a light where it needs to be shone, stop covering for the shonks everyone knows are there, and take the first steps towards restoring faith in our democracy. "The behaviour you walk past..." etc. Public support for a Federal ICAC runs at about 80%, the Gov went to the last election promising one, and so far crickets. Helen has consulted widely and put up a sensible, non-partisan bill, and while private members bills don't often get up, this one is a chance. All that's being asked today is that the bill is allowed to be debated and in all likelihood, all that needs to happen to see this, is for a handful coalition MPs to choose ethics over the party line and "cross the floor". Dare I say, stand in Parliament and demonstrate their own integrity. But enough from me. What do you reckon Bridget? #BringOnDebate #FedICAC See more
