24.01.2022 We were sad to farewell Carol Blundy on her last day at Sea Lake Preschool on Friday. Carol has worked in the Sea Lake kindergarten, child care and vacation programs in Sea Lake and Ouyen for over ten years. We wish Carol all the best in her new role with Mallee Family Care and congratulate her on completing her Diploma of Community Services.

23.01.2022 A very different day for us today - usually by now the committee has been hard at work for a couple of hours. Flower, cooking and produce entries are rolling in,... the bar is stocked, the bookmaker area is set up and our market stalls are arriving, of course the Cha Cha would have arrived last night - but not this year!. Instead if you happen to be about - keep an eye out for The mallee drifters inc - our local car club which is having a parade /drive today taking in some of the streets before finishing at the Ouyen Lake - I believe they may even be doing a drive by of Mallee Track Health & Community Service Pattinson House. Seeing as you can't be at the show today - how about sharing a memory or photo from a previous Farmers Festival with us? See more

22.01.2022 If you haven't had a chance to watch these fabulous episodes, you can catch up on ABC Iview. Old People’s Home For 4 Year Olds took home the Emmy for best Non-Scripted Entertainment for demonstrating the physical and mental benefits of bringing together the very young and very old. We look forward to being able to resume some kinder and playgroup sessions in our own residential aged care facilities as soon as the COVID restrictions allow

21.01.2022 Just when you're starting to get the mid-morning nibblies...this is standard fare morning tea for our residents! Sweet and savory...and once a week, freshly-baked bread! How's morning tea looking at your place?!

21.01.2022 Ophthalmologists and optometrists are seeing a worrying increase in the number of people cancelling eye injections out of fear of attending medical services due to confusion around COVID-19. Patients with wet (neovascular) age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) or diabetic macula edemea (DME) are skipping crucial appointments. Without regular treatment, there’s a high risk these people could go blind or suffer significant vision loss, which is often irreversible. Eye injections are essential medical treatment and need to continue as scheduled. If you’re worried about attending MTHCS clinics, please call ahead and talk to us about what extra protocols are in place and what precautions you can take.

21.01.2022 Lest We Forget. #remembranceday is always an important day for all of our residents. We all took a moment to remember and reflect.

We wish her all the best with her new endeavours. We're going to miss seeing her smiling face around Ouyen! Pictured - Mary, Bec, Tegan, Olivia, Shania and Sapana.

17.01.2022 You did it! On Monday, MTHCS programs celebrated Doughnut Day 28 days of zero COVID-19 cases in Victoria. What an awesome effort! Thanks to our residents who have risen to the challenges over and over again this year to keep our communities safe. #doughnutday Pictured (clockwise from top left) having a special treat in honor of the day: 3-year-old kinder group from Mallee Minors Ouyen, and Arlo, Olly, Emmy and Henry from Mallee Minors Sea Lake.

16.01.2022 There were a few changes to traditions for the AFL Grand Final day this year it was October instead of September, it was played at night and outside Victoria for the first time - at the Brisbane GABBA, and the crowd of 30,000 socially distanced fans was quite a bit smaller than the usual 100,000 at the MCG. But none of that worried residents at the MTHCS Ouyen Nursing Home who were very happy to watch the game on television after a scrumptious barbeque cooked by Nurse John Cresp.

14.01.2022 Leaving children unattended in a car even for a short period of time can be fatal. Children are particularly at risk because they can lose fluid quickly, become dehydrated and suffer from heatstroke.

14.01.2022 To give our children the best chance in life, MTHCS teamed up with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Robinvale District Health Service in 2018 to provide speech therapy services to families in Ouyen, Robinvale, Sea Lake, Murrayville and Underbool. 14.01.2022 During extreme heat, whether it’s one hot day or a heatwave, remember: Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty (if your doctor normally limits your fluids, check how much to drink during hot weather).

08.01.2022 A major part of MTHCS staff work in recent months has been maintaining community awareness about how to be safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. While restrictions are being eased, we are acutely aware that it’s not over yet and we still will need to take precautions like social distancing, hand hygiene, masks and getting tested in the event of any symptoms. Local businesses have provided strong support for customers by setting up signage and hand hygiene stations at their own cost, as well as limits to in-store customers. Our staff continue to be busy putting up signage at MTHCS facilities across the catchment. If you’re having trouble finding a suitable mask, please let us know - we have a limited number of free masks for eligible residents. Tests can also be organised by contacting the Clinics.

06.01.2022 The MTHCS volunteer workforce is incredibly important to our organization and our communities. We all need to operate as safely as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, which involves following the advice of health authorities and peak bodies. The peak body for volunteering in Victoria (Volunteering Victoria) is recommending that if volunteering can be done virtually or from home, that is the preference for now. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep communities updated. It’s the little things volunteers do that brighten our days like this beautiful bouquet of roses dropped off by an Ouyen volunteer for MTHCS Sea Lake residents to enjoy. Pictured: Ethel Prange.

06.01.2022 It’s hard to find many silver linings to the COVID lock-downs, but one of them has been the innovative use of technology to stay connected. Our exercise programs, for example, have always been face-to-face, and that will continue when safe, but we have also moved to on-line platforms and will be doing more of that in future. Online platforms potentially mean more people can get the benefits of a program without having to travel at all. More people can get involved in our Tai Chi programs for example, but we can also offer some new programs like arthritis management and cardiac rehab. Tai Chi sessions via Zoom recently (pictured) have been a big hit with communities -enabling people from throughout the catchment to keep up their exercise from the comfort of their living rooms.

03.01.2022 Residents and visitors to Victoria are being warned to protect themselves against mosquito-borne diseases such as Ross River virus and Barmah Forest virus. Ross River virus has been detected in mosquitoes in the Gippsland Lakes area around Ninety Mile Beach. These viruses can cause symptoms including joint pain and stiffness, headache, fever, rash and fatigue. Read more at https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/campaigns/beat-the-bite

03.01.2022 Heat kills more people than any natural disaster. #SurviveTheHeat check on those who are most at risk today - your neighbour living alone, the elderly, and people with a medical condition. Find out more at: betterhealth.vic.gov.au/heat

02.01.2022 Many happy returns to our Practise Nurse Deb Watson who celebrated her birthday at MTHCS Sea Lake recently. Colleague Chevaun Wight, famous for her scrumptious home-baked birthday cakes, came up with the goods again with a delicious cake that staff and residents enjoyed sharing!

02.01.2022 The ‘Buloke Girls Can’ at Green Lake this morning moving through yoga poses with Averyl, listening to two inspirational young women discuss their experiences wi...th positive body image and self-confidence with lots of take home messages and finishing up chatting over a scrumptious lunch provided by Steph Kelly. Both Chloe and Ash had in their speeches this saying by Rupi Kaur which is a powerful message so have included it here. More details of the event will be in this weeks Times Ensign but feel free to talk to either girl about their experiences. I want to apologise to all the women I have called pretty before I have called them intelligent or brave. I am sorry I made it sound as though something as simple as what you are born with is the most you have to be proud of when your spirit has crushed mountains. From now on I will say things like you are resilient or you are extraordinary. Not because I don’t think you are pretty but because you are so much more than that. See more
