25.01.2022 If your bored 'shirtless' at home then here are some tips for your lawn to make sure it is fertilised correctly. Don't over feed the lawn as this can promote lawn thatch buildup. As always follow the product label's instructions. Your lawn will respond wonderful to a "feed" followed by some rain so after the rain give your lawn a heavy soak to compound the effect of the rain in the previous days. That is, to help the water to soak deeply to the turf grass roots.... Only use granular (slow or controlled release) fertilisers. These are best for a consistent green appearance for three months to the next treatment. The drawback with "spray on fertilisers" is they tend to give a sudden burst of colour that is only short lived. Hope this helps keep your shirt on and away from an early drink.

24.01.2022 NoMoreWeeds There is really no great benefit derived from topdressing your lawn apart from trying to get your lawn perfectly level (that is, to remove any lumps and bumps in your lawn). So, what we suggest is to buy a bag or two of washed river sand (store these in the garage), and as you need to (over the spring & summer period) just fill in the undulations in your lawn. You will have your lawn looking like a bowling green in no time!... But what about turf underlay or topdressing soil we hear you ask? Like we said just stick with the washed river sand, as the turf grass runners will travel through the sand without trouble unlike your topdressing soil that goes rock hard in the summer heat.

13.01.2022 Get the fertiliser out !! Summer time is a time for lush, green lawns! At least that what you think until your lawn turns to straw patches and takes on a blotchy appearance. You can be forgiven for thinking that lawns are looking dead in patches as a result of heat stress. This is, however, not the case! Lawn turf is generally resilient and drought hardy! So why the dead patches? The answer is lawn insect damage!... These dead patches are a result of curl grub (a grub which feeds on the lawn turf roots), and bill bug (a weevil that burrows down the plant stem). The curl grub and bill bug damage generally occurs in November and December, however, the lawn damage manifests itself (and becomes evident) after a period of dry weather with some of those classic heatwave days. Like clockwork, the lawn damage generally appears from early to mid January. The damage is quite obvious. Areas, both small and large, are off-colour or quite dead looking. The general appearance is a blotchy one. In most cases the lawn areas are repairable. However, it is important to revive the damaged lawn areas immediately with extra doses of balanced granular fertiliser. If you fertilise in the next few months and follow our tips for regular mowing and heavy (and infrequent) watering your lawn should be lush all year round. Contact myself if you want to follow my quarterly lawn care program over the next 12 months. Mobile 0422 605 337 or [email protected] See more

09.01.2022 Anyone know that if country closes down that mowing contractors treated as essential services

09.01.2022 NOMOREWEEDS Most home owners and lawn mowing contractors get a few of the basics wrong when it comes to looking after their lawns. Watering is one activity that is critical for the success of lawn and turf grassed areas.... It is really important to understand the mechanics of different turf grasses to help you know how to water and mow lawns correctly. People can kill their lawns with kindness by watering too often. Watering requirements of different turf grasses vary. Cool season grasses require frequent, shallow and short waterings. It is not so important to water in the cooler months as the soil does not dry out so quickly. However, it is important in the warmer weather to maintain watering for the cool season grasses. As these grasses have shallow root systems it is important to maintain moisture to the top 25-50mm of soil. On the other hand, infrequent (that is, not often) but heavy (that is, 30 minutes or more) watering is required for the warm season grasses (like Kikuyu, Couch/Bermuda grass, Buffalo/St Augustine. These grasses do not need much watering in the cooler seasons, however, if it does not rain in the warmer months then weekly heavy waterings are required. Warm season grasses have root systems that can grow deeply in search of water. So it makes sense to water these lawns heavily and infrequently. Deep root systems for these grasses develops good drought tolerance. Also, there is less chance of weeds germinating as well. Generally, Cool season grasses need to be mowed higher than Warm season grasses. Another good tip is too always use a catcher to pick up lawn clippings and debris. So if you need help turning your tired old grass into lush green lawn like my below backyard please contact myself at anytime
