21.01.2022 Do you know how important sleep is? Men who sleep 7-8 hours per night have approximately 60% less risk of fatal heart attacks than those who sleep 5 hours or less. Lack of adequate sleep can also affect your immune system, energy levels and your mood. If you suffer from disrupted sleep, chat with our pharmacy team for advice. Although we live in one of the healthiest countries, on average, Australian men die six years younger than women. 30% of a man’s overall health is de...termined by their genetics, but the rest is within their control. On average, men live the equivalent of 9 years in poor health and most of this is caused by small preventable lifestyle changes. If you have any concerns about your health, talk to your doctor or health professional. Your local Malouf or Ramsay pharmacist is easy to access and always available to provide expert advice on ways to improve your health. Simple changes to your lifestyle can make a world of difference. 13.01.2022 Cuddle Cots support bereaved families in the initial days after the loss of their baby. There is an urgent need for Cuddle Cots in Australian hospitals with many not having such an option available. A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that assists in extending the time for parents to spend with their child. In days following a stillbirth, without a Cuddle Cot, there is precious little time for a grieving family to be with their sleeping angel. Vicky, Retail Manager at Mount Gra...vatt, will be fundraising through Bears Of Hope with a $6,500 goal. This is enough money to purchase a Cuddle Cot to donate to families in need. The cause is close to Vicky’s heart after a Cuddle Cot was granted to her extended family to grieve when a newborn child was lost. If you wish to donate to Vicky and her quest of purchasing and donating a Cuddle Cot, please donate on the following link: http://ow.ly/atWl50Cvc74

11.01.2022 This week raises awareness about the serious health issue of antibiotic resistance which occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites resist the effects of medications. Resistance makes common infections harder to treat and increases the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. The more we use antibiotics, the more likely it is that drug resistant infections will develop. Appropriate use can be life-saving, but misuse or overuse needs to be minimised to prevent and contain antimicrobial resistance. It's important to maintain good hand hygiene, always take your full course of medication as prescribed and chat with your Ramsay or Malouf Pharmacist about your antibiotics or other medications to find out more and help reduce the resistance of antibiotics.

09.01.2022 As the skin cancer capital of the world, it's important we Aussie's remember to stay SunSmart and keep our skin protected all year long. Sunscreen not only reduces the risk of skin cancer and sunburn, it also reduces the ageing effect of the sun. It’s recommended you wear sunscreen whenever the UV levels reach 3 or higher. You can use the free SunSmart app or visit the Bureau of Meteorology website to check the UV Index. The Cancer Council recommends applying a sunscreen that... is SPF30 or higher before heading outside and then reapplying every two hours, after swimming, sweating, exercising or towel drying. Sunscreen isn’t recommended for babies under the age of 6 months. Instead, use protective clothing, a hat and seek shade. The Cancer Council recommends these five simple things to protect yourself from the sun and to reduce your risk of skin cancer: 1. Slipping on sun protective clothing 2. Slopping on SPF30 or higher water resistant sunscreen 3. Slapping on a broad brim hat 4. Seeking shade when possible, and 5. Sliding on sunglasses Your local Malouf and Ramsay Pharmacy can help with all your sun protection needs, chat to the friendly team today!

07.01.2022 "Just breathe." They’re two words that often come to mind during times of stress. But have you ever paused to really think about just how important each breath is?... The health of our lungs is so vital to our overall wellbeing, yet at least 1 in 10 Australians has a lung disease and nearly 14% of deaths are caused by lung diseases. It’s important we look after this organ so that we continue to enjoy, and not labour over, each breath. Read our latest blog for advice and how to improve your lung health. http://ow.ly/Lny650CrF6J
