22.01.2022 Hooley Dooley get in my belly

19.01.2022 Christina Ratcliffe of 'The Raffians' and 'The Whizzbangs' dance troupes fame goes about her daily chores in wartime Malta. Alec Guinness' 1954 movie ' The Mal...ta Story' was based on her romance with RAF Ace Sqn. Leader Adrian Warburton. Though Warburton went missing in 1944 after a bombing raid over Berlin, Christina waited all her life in Malta for him to return. She died heart broken in the 1980s and is buried at Addolorata Cemetery only for Warburton to be eventually found in the wreckage of his aircraft in a bog in Egling, Munich in 2003. He was later buried in Durnbach with full RAF honours. The Union Jack that draped his coffin and the plane's wreckage were donated to the Malta Aviation Museum at Ta Qali in 2005. See more

09.01.2022 Malta is saddened by the passing of Prof Oliver Friggieri, a Maltese poet, novelist, literary critic and philosopher. Condolences to all of his family. May he Rest In Peace https://www.maltatoday.com.mt//oliver_friggieri_intellectu

04.01.2022 Honour to a great Philosopher, Writer and master of the Maltese language. Read how in this impromptu email to a friend, Prof. Oliver Friggieri reflected on his... impending death, in beautiful poetry, fully aware of his advancing medical condition. There can not be enough justice made in attempting to translate this beautiful poetry so this one is best enjoyed as it is in its original form by us Maltese. Prof. Friggieri had, in 2002, permitted me to use another of his poems about the Santa Marija Convoy, during which he recounted a childhood episode concerning one of his mother's stories about how Malta was saved by divine intercession of the Madonna through Operation Pedestal. The poem was included in a 1 hour theatrical rendition at Ta Liesse, Grand Harbour, Valletta, performed on Friday 27th September 2002 by the Tarxien Pageant Group for 105 Pedestal convoy veterans who attended the 60th anniversary Reunion in Malta that month. The poem dwelt on how Prof. Friggieri promised to carry down the story to his children in awe and admiration of his mother's words. She explained to him, he says in his poem, that she would continue to keep a candle burning in a small niche to the Madonna at her home for as long as she lived. If I come across the poem I will upload it in here. Rest in peace dear Oliver, amongst Malta's greatest and most illustrious sons. Thank you for your huge contributions to Maltese literature and for holding the valiant struggle of Malta's wartime defenders in high esteem. The GC on our flag flaps for them. God Speed Simon Cusens
