25.01.2022 Memories: Finally Malua is finished and time to lift out of the yard to take to the sea.... its home.

24.01.2022 It appears s/v Malua is safe in Bermagui Harbour Marina. There are people in the marina looking out for spot fires as the embers fall from the sky. The fire and smoke is so thick that the sun was blacked out on 31 Dec you required lights at 10:00 am in the morning

24.01.2022 Memories; We will soon start the trip with pictures but lets get the vessel in the water. Wine of course and the silver cup was not thrown into the water for the builders. It was used to name me many years before.

24.01.2022 Memories. Constructing the hull took a week or more and I helped lay-up the glass at the factory

23.01.2022 Memories: Malua's first cruise was to Tasmania. Tested new reacher with Iain.

23.01.2022 Made a new boarding duckboard so it is easy to step aboard in the marina. Upgraded the saloon dorade vent on the coachouse and install shiny stainless steel rubbing plate for forestay sail sheet

22.01.2022 Sydney to Hobart yachts had a quiet night with winds about 5 to 10 knots The fleet passed Bermagui early this morning.

22.01.2022 Started to get serious about polishing Malua up to showroom level. Started with the easy bit and tested a number of products. Lots and lots of work..... never ending

22.01.2022 Memories: got sidetracked doing maintenance on Malua in Bermagui but back to construction. The sole and two of the main bullheads had to be installed before the engine and the standards review and settlement.

21.01.2022 I can across this photo. Some will remember the buoy. The black tires give the game away. Any idea of the location?

21.01.2022 Malua features highlighting why it is the best

21.01.2022 Just changed vessel insurance to drop Pantaenius having been insured with them since 2006. Starting in the Med with Hamburg and then being forced to change to Sydney when i came through the Panama Canal. The latter office has been a nightmare with the final straw coming from their employee suggesting "finding a second crew member for those mentioned voyages." as a solution to an issue. I am now dealing with a real broker who is qualified, enthusiastic and understands the issue and detail. Con is his name, a broker in the Marine Practice Sydney of the company A J Gallagher. The whole team seems to know what they are doing.

21.01.2022 Memories: The next work was the tanks for fuel and water which are flowcoated. The cabin roof with balsa insulation and finally the deck are layed up.

20.01.2022 Memories: Malua travelled from Newcastle to Canberra and into the reserve at the back of our house. It was lifted over the fence. The high volt electrical wires were removed but during the replacement a linesman was electrocuted and died at the scene. A dampener on the proceedings. Big impact on me.

19.01.2022 Not a good day to be out on the water. Strong wind warning. I saw 36 knots in Bermagui marina. Undertaking jobs on the to-do list

17.01.2022 What a beautiful day to be on the yacht in Bermagui

15.01.2022 The boat surveyor found that some of my 5 EBIRBs where out of date so I had to purchase a new one. I will replace the batteries and keep three on board. I to use , the second as a backup and the third in the grab-bag. The life raft has one in it but that must be out of date. They are all registered with the local AMSA and all contact are current, with the correct phone numbers. I also update my current journey details on their database. Do you like the SOS flashing strobe light - will anyone recognise the SOS Morse code flash?

14.01.2022 When oh when will I be able to drop the new galvanised anchor again?

14.01.2022 Part of the rejuvenation is the replacement of the saloon upholstery. This has been completed and a special treated fabric used. Think it looks good.

13.01.2022 Memories: Finally the vessel hull and deck are finished and we are ready to leave the factory to travel to Canberra for fit out. After some final negotiations all visitors to the boat as we move it out and onto the truck.

13.01.2022 Part of the rejuvenation of Malua is to upgrade some varnish surfaces that have faded as a result of sunlight. The companion way entrance needed a fresh coat of varnish. This required a good sand (dust everywhere) and then five coats of varnish from the spray gun. Quite a challenge. The stainless steel banisters had to be removed and re-polished and waxed - they look great again. Then a walk as the sun rose to enjoy the environment

13.01.2022 Yes it has happened again. A blade of my Brunton's Autoprop has come adrift. The last time that happened I sent the prop back to the UK for a new blade and balancing. They returned it and I fitted it to a new 1 1/2 inch shaft (it bent the last one) Now after only 5,000 nm a blade fell off just outside Bermagui. I was able to sail home. I have replaced the blade with my reserve Porters 19" by 13 bronze fixed blade. All done underwater with scuba. So what should I do? fix autoprop, keep fixed or get another prop and which one?

12.01.2022 I'm going to run through my album of photos to highlight some of the milestones on the path of Malua's adventures. Today the signing of the contract with David at Bluewater Yachts for the construction of Malua at the boatshow Sydney 1999

12.01.2022 Memories: Some of the fit-out Teak deck in the cockpit area, Flemming windvane and electric winches.

12.01.2022 Malua is back in Bermagui but not in my normal berth - it has been taken by a stink boat but there are advantages. How about this photo of still, still water.

11.01.2022 Memories: The boat arrived to start the fit out which lasted three years. Sun, rain and even snow. Thankfully it was water tight down below.

11.01.2022 I have been working on the finishing off of the small things that were not done when I went sailing. Lovely weather

10.01.2022 Memories: We arrived in Hobart and spent a few days in Constitution dock along with another Adams - this one steel Rosinante

10.01.2022 Left Port Stephens for Bermagui. Dawn photo at PS and next day sun set as I arrive at my home port

09.01.2022 Memories: Sailed through the Southern Ocean on a flat calm day and then into the Tasmanian west coast at Port Davey. The best cold water cruising grounds in the world.

09.01.2022 Memories: Defiantly the last construction but after launch we had to put the mast up:

09.01.2022 I have prepared a page for the sale of Malua. Have to get through the fires first. https://www.adamsbluewatermalua.com.au/

07.01.2022 I used my Vesper Marine AIS to watch the Sydney to Hobart yachts sail past Bermagui. No message from Wild Oats. It was not turned on. Two years in a row a question mark over their sportsmanship. Just like cricket.... Win at all cost

07.01.2022 Just had the anchors regalvanised and installed on Malua. No matter what you do over time they get scratched and in the salt water they rust. It has been a great result.

02.01.2022 Memories: After the fibreglass layup the next was the 4.2 ton of lead in the keel and then the sole with the chainplate knees
