23.01.2022 The committee and members of the Malvern Cricket Club pass on their most sincere condolences to the Murch family on the sad passing of Nigel. A larger than life character, Nigel will always be fondly remembered at the Roosters for his ten seasons of unwavering commitment, passion and leadership. His contribution to the Victorian cricketing landscape was immense and he will be sorely missed by all at Malvern.

22.01.2022 A massive shoutout to Max Stevenson and Tom Nelson for their selection in the Cricket Victoria U/19 Emerging Performance squad. We have loved watching you both grow and develop and are excited for what this opportunity brings you. Congrats from all at the Roosters! #roosters

20.01.2022 A huge congratulations to those selected for the mighty Malvern Roosters in this years JG Craig Shield squad. The boys kick off their campaign today against Ormond CC after a washout yesterday. Get around the lads and stay tuned for results as they come in!

20.01.2022 Well done to the 1st XI who won the Holten-Howland Shield on Saturday v @oakleighcc. It was the teams best performance for the year and boys certainly enjoyed it! Unfortunately the 2nds couldn’t get over the line against the same opposition and the 3rd’s and 4th’s were unable to play due to the wet week. #roosters #cricket

12.01.2022 COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT We would like to officially congratulate and welcome Chris McCormick to the role of Club Coach for the 2020-21 season. Chris joined us last year as a player and distinguished himself both with the bat and the ball in the First Eleven (20 wickets at 20.95 and 240 runs at 34 with a top score of 74 no v Brighton), whilst also showing a clear connection with the players with his willingness to assist others. His experience playing First Eleven Premier C...ricket at Frankston and mentoring younger players began a passion for coaching. Chris is a Cricket Australia Accredited Coach who is genuinely excited about assisting our players to reach their potential and enjoy their cricket. As a club, we are impressed with his alignment to our values and will support his efforts totally. Go Roosters!

12.01.2022 Congratulations on an incredible career @Beery19. All at Malvern are extremely proud of your achievements and you will always be our first Australian Test representative. You and your family are part of the fabric of our club and we look forward to seeing you down soon! #418 #rooster

12.01.2022 RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT It is with great excitement that the club can announce the recruitment of Michael Beer. Mick has agreed to play for the Roosters for the next 3 seasons and also assist with our flourishing junior program. Many of you will remember Mick as an excitable youngster his words not mine who first played senior cricket in the 4th XI as a 13 year old with his dad the one and only Tony ‘Ox’ Beer. In his second season at Malvern he played in a 4th XI ...flag led by Ian ‘Gymbola’ Crawford. He went on to play 70 games over six seasons at Malvern. In his last season (2002/03) under the guidance of then skipper, David Jakobi, he took 32 wickets at an average of 10.56 to win the 1st XI bowling average and the prestigious Ron Howland Most Valuable Player Award. Mick then went on to a celebrated career with St Kilda (170 1st XI games), WA and Victoria (30 first-class games) and, of course, 2 tests for Australia an achievement that made all Roosters proud. Mick spoke glowingly at our 160th season function about his memories of growing up at Malvern and following his father at training and on game day. We have always harboured hopes that Mick might come back to his cricketing roots. Thankfully his busy coaching schedule still allows him to pursue his passion to play and the Roosters are the beneficiaries. In further good news, Mick will also put his coaching skills to good use helping our junior club. On behalf of all Roosters I welcome Mick, Sheena, Hudson and Rose back to the club. Hopefully it means we see more of Patsy and Ox too. Go Roosters!! Peter Clifton President Malvern Cricket Club https://www.heraldsun.com.au//44079a3a9d2ccd8aa45c61109ea8

10.01.2022 Dear Rooster Community, On behalf of the Committee, it is with sadness that I advise Senior Coach, Peter Marshall (aka Marshy), has decided to step down from his role after four seasons. I reluctantly accepted that decision. Marshy’s contribution has been significant on so many different levels. All at Malvern agree, no more passionate a cricket person has ever walked through the door. His selfless and committed approach to make our club a better place to be serves as an ex...ample to us all. Malvern has never been better placed as ‘one club’ from our Woolworths Blast through to our senior eleven and whilst many should take the credit, it comes as no surprise that Marshy has been the key driver in developing that strong connect between the junior and senior arms of the club. That legacy alone will have him fondly remembered long after we have moved on. It has served to future proof our club for a long time to come and all of us must ensure that Marshy’s work in this regard is never undone. As most of you know Marshy’s contribution to local sport is not restricted to cricket. He is highly regarded in the AFL sphere as well and, not surprisingly, Marshy is looking to expand his interests (preferably closer to home no doubt). The club wishes him all the best in whatever pursuit he follows. I know Marshy is disappointed, as am I, that there has been no tangible evidence of the senior club’s improvement over the past few seasons. Sometimes though success is not measured in premierships or finals. The Committee is absolutely unanimous that the club is so much better off for appointing Marshy and he should be very proud of making Malvern such an enjoyable place to play and follow cricket. I take this opportunity to thank Emmett Dunne and Gav Thompson in particular for having the foresight to see just what Marshy would bring to our club. Marshy further assures me he will remain a friend of the club. To use his words I have loved every minute of being a Rooster. Thankfully he won’t be lost to the club. In true Marshy style he doesn’t want a fuss but all can be assured we will organise a proper forum for recognising his contribution once we all regain our equilibrium. In the meantime, I take this opportunity on behalf of all senior players and supporters, Shaun Beattie and everyone involved in the Malvern Juniors and anyone else lucky enough to have had the good fortune to have met Marshy to simply thank him for everything he has done for our club. We are so much richer for having Peter and Angela as part of our club. Stay safe in these challenging times. Cheers David Priddle President Malvern Cricket Club

10.01.2022 VALE LAWRIE CHAPPLE I received a phone call this week sharing the sad news of the passing of Lawrie Chapple at the age of 97. Those with any association with Malvern Cricket Club will remember Lawrie as the perfect gentlemen, impeccably dressed, always attended our events, shook every hand and addressed you by your name. Lawrie was one of our flag bearers that proudly led the procession into the Malvern Town Hall at the 160th Anniversary dinner.... Lawrie commenced at Malvern in 1950/1 and played 144 games taking 20 wickets 12.79. He was a member of the 1st XI premiership in our Centenary season in 1959/60 (only Ron Prendergast and Arthur Dixon now survive), also a member of the 2nd XI premiership side in 1958/9. Lawrie became involved with the Committee of the Club in 1961-62 and became President in 1965/6 until 1986/7, a consecutive 22 seasons of amazing service, leadership and commitment to the Club. Lawrie’s time as President included the 1979/80 1st XI Championship of which he was extremely proud. His involvement with the Club continued as a valuable supporter and member of the Presidents Club group. My initial memories of Lawrie in 1984-5 addressing the players at the traditional pie night was the welcoming of players to the Club, the announcement of Captains and stressing the importance of looking after the provided equipment. Players always smiled when reminded about their spikes damaging the leather pads Even then, Lawrie was reminding us of our values and what it meant to play at Malvern. Our thoughts are extended to the Chapple family, his son Doug and daughter Leanne especially. Lawrie passed peacefully after a short illness and in true form will be farewelled at a private service with a celebration of his life in due course. The Malvern Cricket Club acknowledges Lawrie for his service and his commitment. Lawrie, we raise a glass to you and simply say . Thank you. Peter ‘Brickie’ Clifton Malvern Cricket Club President
