20.01.2022 | | - The evidence is overwhelming New Mamas who are active in their postpartum recovery period bounce back significantly quicker than those who don’t.... Do these 3 exercises daily from day one. Start with a 5-minute walk with the pram or sling Aim: 30 minutes Clench everything below as tight as you can (as if you’re trying to stop a wee and poo at the same time) and hold for as long as you can. Starting level: 5 times (with 5 second breaks) x repeat 3 times (total 15 times) How often: Every time you wash your hands, or whenever you have a drink. Lie down. Slowly ‘suck’ your belly button in towards your spine and hold for 5 seconds. Starting level: Hold 5 sec x repeat 5 times. Aim: Hold for 10 seconds x repeat 10 times You may not be able to 'feel' your muscles do the actual actions at first - this will get better, so keep doing it daily Benefits you will see: Improved abs prevent back pain, decrease abdominal separation Stronger pelvic floor decreased bladder & bowel issues, improved sexual function Better mood + sleep exercise triggers an endorphin rush Decreased risk of blood clots Excess fat loss Bonding incorporate your baby into some of your exercises the change in scenery and movement is great for their development. Stay away from: planks and sit-ups, high impact activity @lidsspb via Twenty20

18.01.2022 Puberty isn't the only time a woman will experience an explosion of hormonal, physical and identity changes. It happens again if she gives birth - the fan...cy pants name for it is MATRESCENCE (sounds like 'adolescence'). It's also a time when epic changes you go through as a mother are commonly misdiagnosed as 'postpartum depression'. A must read for all mums - old, new and soon-to-be.

18.01.2022 Chance The Rapper showing how postpartum risk can be reduced by a partner's support and appreciation "When Kensli was born.... I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months...".

13.01.2022 - . It's science, bro! In China it's known as 'Sitting the Month'. In India it's 'jaapa'. In Mexico they call it 'la cuarentena' and is where wew got the word 'quarantine'. In the West we're a bit late to the part, but we're starting to realise the importance of observing the immediate postnatal period.... The benefits of observing this period at home are enormous - it is a sacred and unrushed period of bonding which can impact Mama + Baby well being in profound ways. The quality of bonding depends a lot on he amount of physical contact a parent has with their newborn. Touch --> release of happy hormones (oxytocin + serotonin) --> new neural pathways formed. These pathways consolidate trust, easiness to settle and jump-start your baby's development. Modern life can be a threat - mainly due to frequent interruptions and stress of a fast-paced life in general. This causes excessive levels of stress hormones (cortisol + adrenaline) in both you and baby - this can have devastating permanent effects. Enlist help: your parents, in-laws, friends, neighbours. People love helping out but don't know how - give them a task - let them bring you food, let them do the dishes. Let go of the control freak in you. This means your house cleanliness standards need to go down (to nil!). Let your partner help out, with the baby, the housework, cooking - they may not do it to your standard - you just gotta let that go. If you can afford it - get a cleaner once a week Cleanse your social media - if you're feeling pressured to conform to an unrealistic standard by photoshopped yummy mummies who seem to have it all - press UNFOLLOW. I'd love to know if you practiced confinement andany helpful tips for new Mamas below. Photo credit: @Pinningnarwhals via Twenty20
