20.01.2022 Gold standard evidence that continuity of Midwifery Care reduces chance of prematurity and perinatal mortality. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2352410518103716&id=190542380957218&ref=bookmarks

19.01.2022 Why do upright positions matter? When the mother is in an upright position it can help the baby to be in the best (easiest) position for birth, making more spac...e within her pelvis than if she is semi-sitting or lying on her back on a bed. Current research has shown that this can make labor shorter and giving birth easier as well as increase safety for the mother and her baby by reducing the risks of complications during birth. #labor #labour #birth #upright #evidence #CUBsupport

18.01.2022 There is growing evidence of the importance of the microbiome in Mothers and Newborns. Babies born by Caesarean Section miss out on coming in contact with the vaginal microbiome of its Mother. The act of taking a swab from the Mothers vagina and swabbing the baby with it has been suggested as a replacement when vaginal birth is not possible anymore. RANZCOG have made a statement no supporting this practice due to a lack of research. To me it is a practice that makes sense unless the caesarean section is being performed due to an infection... what are peoples thoughts? https://ranzcog.edu.au/news/vaginal-seeding

16.01.2022 Yes Midwifery care has been shown to improve outcomes but also continuity of midwifery care x https://www.sarawickham.com//midwifery-care-better-outco/

15.01.2022 More hurdles for Midwives as Vero/Medisure will no longer insure midwives who offer home birth or home birth related services. This change will affect a lot of midwives. MIGA also offer insurance for privately practicing midwives but Midwives are expected to pay the insurance premium for providing intrapartum care, despite MIGA not insuring them for their intrapartum care. Is this legally allowable?

14.01.2022 Look at that beautiful umbilical cord!! MAKE SURE that your birth attendant allows your baby to receive all of their stem cells, red & white blood cells, platlets, glucose and nutrient rich blood, by waiting for the cord to stop pulsating before cutting it.

11.01.2022 Mamatoto's Birth Outcome Statistics for 2018 http://mamatotomidwives.com.au/mamatotos-statistics-for-20/

05.01.2022 Language matters. I know not everyone likes statistics and thinking about maths and philosophy as much as I do (lol) but when we use the word ‘risk’ in maternit...y or health care, we could nearly always use the word ‘chance’ instead. The meaning wouldn’t change, but we wouldn’t be generating so much fear. It’s hard for someone to make the decisions that are right for them when they are being filled with fear. Let’s re-think what we’re saying, whoever we are :-) #midwifery #midwife #doula #childbirth #childbirtheducation #informedbirth #inducedlabor #duedate #duein2019 www.sarawickham.com/books/whatsrightforme/ See more
