25.01.2022 Urgent. The Local Land Services Amendment (Miscellaneous) Bill 2020 is likely to be voted on in the Upper House on 11th November. This bill will be the final nail in the coffin for out Koalas. There are three members who could change the outcome if we contact them now. They need to know we don't accept them extincting Koalas!
24.01.2022 Deputy Premier John Barilaro has called our koalas tree-rats, but what his party is doing in parliament is even worse. The Nationals have introduced a bill th...at would put koalas a step closer to extinction. If this bill passes, developers and big agribusiness will be free to destroy koala habitat. This bill has passed in the lower house but the upper house has not voted yet. Many MPs in the upper house don’t even know what this bill will do to koalas in NSW. We still have time to make sure they know the harm this bill will do. Send an urgent message to MPs about this bill before they vote. Together we can save koalas from extinction https://www.nature.org.au//dear-mp-don-t-weaken-protectio/ : David Clode

22.01.2022 Thank you Catherine Cusack. When you read the findings of the Parliamentary Enquiry into koalas in NSW, of which Ms Cusack was a member, you couldn’t do anything but..... vote against this bill.
15.01.2022 We’re privileged here in Port Stephens to live with so much wonderful coastline. But some of our feathered friends are finding life tough here. Pied oystercatch...ers are listed endangered (vulnerable to extinction). My post below shows how easy it is to help in their research. My camera had only a moderate zoom, nothing fancy. See more
13.01.2022 STOP THE HYPOCRISY. Every time Sydney experiences a deadly heat wave, the Planning Minister announces yet another plan to plant more trees. In the meantime, the... draft Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan for Western Sydney proposes wiping out over 1,000 hectares of critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodlands and 70% of koala habitat in the hottest part of Sydney. "Planning Minister Rob Stokes says homeowners should plant exotic trees as well as native species around their homes as the state government pushes to boost tree canopy cover and combat urban heat across Sydney. The government will on Tuesday announce $10 million in funding to help 30 councils plant 40,000 trees in Parramatta and Miranda, and fast-growing parts of Camden, Campbelltown, Blacktown and Hawkesbury."
11.01.2022 Have you seen or heard a koala? What do you think about koalas, their decline and conservation in Port Stephens? We need your help by taking part in the Port St...ephens Koala Community Survey. We recently asked you to send in photos and videos of koalas in our local area. The response was amazing. We received over 300 photos and videos of separate sightings of koalas in our fight to save the Brandy Hill Quarry koalas and their habitat. The koala population in Port Stephens is one of the last in NSW. They are struggling to survive as they battle habitat destruction, bushfires, vehicle strikes, dog attacks and disease. We must continue to fight to save and secure our vulnerable koalas by supporting koala research and on-ground conservation efforts. We are proud to support the Fauna Research Alliance and its team of passionate koala experts. 04.01.2022 Sadly we learned this week of the Federal government’s approval of the quarry expansion at Brandy Hill just out of Raymond Terrace at Seaham. The Brandy Hill and Seaham Action Group has worked so hard to save koala habitat and prevent the quarry expansion. They will be bitterly disappointed but they should not give up. Sometimes these battles take years. The buy back of Mambo took 3 years! To all those out at Brandy Hill and in the wider Wallalong and Woodville areas our th...oughts are with you today. We know you won’t give up and Mambo-Wanda Wetlands Conservation Group will continue to support your every effort. Here's something everyone can do right now: Contact Sussan Ley, Federal Environment Minister, and Matt Kean, NSW Minister for the Environment and send them a message. The message is that it’s time for the talking to stop. You may remember that Matt Kean opened the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary and had the nerve to call on the Federal government to stop Hanson’s Quarry expansion at Brandy Hill - after his government had approved it. Ask him what he is going to do now to double koala numbers by 2050, (his words). Here are their contact details: Matt Kean - [email protected] Phone: (02) 9476 3411 Sussan Ley - leave a message on her website https://minister.awe.gov.au/ley/contact Ph: (02) 6277 7920 The designated offset for Brandy Hill, 70ha of planting over 10 years, will not compensate for the destruction of 52ha of mature bushland now. Time to say enough is enough. Please share with your friends. Maximum impact will occur if we all send messages this week. We must continue to support each other in the fight for koalas and habitat in Port Stephens. See more
