21.01.2022 There's always something amazing to discover when you venture into Boranup Forest. Today's surprise amongst the wildflowers? A quenda darting across the path! Also known as a southern brown bandicoot, quendas are marsupials that carry their youngsters in their pouch... definitely not to be mistaken for rats! Next time you visit us here at Mammoth Cave, be sure to take the time to head a few minutes further south to walk the stunning Boranup Forest tracks for awesome views, wildflowers and animal encounters. @jdo_photography via Instagram

14.01.2022 Mammoth Cave was home to one of Australia's most important palaeontological digs in the early 1900's. This was because it was home to megafauna, the long-extinct giant animals that roamed the forest about 50,000 years ago. Many of these giant animals were marsupials, such as giant kangaroos, wombats and the marsupial lion, but there were also huge snakes, lizards and birds Come and learn about megafauna for yourself on one of our self-guided tours- the cave has such a ...fascinating history! PSA: summer and school holidays are here, so it's definitely worth booking ahead to avoid missing out on a cave ticket. Tim Campbell Photo See more

It's a self-guided cave tour, which means we give you a fascinating audio guide then let you explore at your own pace. Press the buttons for commentary as you make your way around the cave, or simply chat with your friends, interpreting the natural beauty as you wish. And thanks Tara for visiting and sharing your great photo!

08.01.2022 Have you walked any of the Cape to Cape Track? Running between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste, this 140km track can take about 5-6 days if you walk the entire length. You walk past amazing views of the ocean, forests and wildflowers There are short walks along the track that are easily accessible, and perfect if you feel like hiking for just one day. Parts of the track are even paved to allow access for wheelchairs and prams. After exploring our coastline, come and admire our underground caves. That way you've seen the region's beauty above and below the surface. IG/j1m1d thanks for sharing your photo

08.01.2022 Deep in the darkness, admiring crystals from another millennium! While the caves of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge formed around one million years ago, when massive sand dunes cemented together then mega rainfall hollowed out limestone caverns, it's estimated that the crystal formations started growing about 500,000 years ago. Standing amongst the ancient karst, it's reassuring having 2020 put into perspective - it's a mere blip, a tiny moment on a wonderfully long timesca...le. Walk on, emerge through Mammoth's doline into Boranup Forest, and the lush greenery reminds you that the sun will still rise in the east and set in the west, that life marches on. Thank you @harpermaggs_photography for sharing your lovely photos!

07.01.2022 What goes down must go up again! Your legs get a workout on the Mammoth Cave stairs. But never fear, it's an absolute joy and worth the effort as you climb through this incredible sunken forest, hearing birdsong and taking in the lush green foliage and tiny wildflowers. It's a self-guided audio tour experience here at Mammoth, so there's the added benefit of taking as long - or as little - time as you like to explore. We love slowly looking, admiring, gasping in awe, and we a...lways do the extra Marri Walk at the end - it's too beautiful to miss! Bookings are recommended! 07.01.2022 What a thrill to be included in the Top 10 Spring Holidays adventures! Limited tickets are still available for our Megafauna Nightstalks, tonight and next Tuesday and Thursday evenings. BYO torch and come for an adventure! https://www.margaretriver.com/stories-top-ten-spring-schoo/

07.01.2022 What a thrill - two baby Yodas came to visit! These Jedi Masters may have witnessed the rise and fall of the Galactic Republic, but they hadn't seen Mammoth Cave, so a self-guided tour of the cave and our collection of megafauna fossils was in order. Wisely, they booked ahead, knowing how busy weekends can be in the year that west aussies all #wanderoutyonder. May the force be with you, @adventuresofkodiandkenobi

01.01.2022 Mammoth Cave is much more than a cave - it is a complete nature experience. It's also one of Australia's most important paleontological digs in the early 1900s, and the cave still contains the fossil jawbone of a long-extinct giant marsupial species. Top tip: book ahead for the first or last tour of the day, which is often the quietest. We're running much smaller group tours while social distancing measures are in place, which means tours can fill up quickly. Book ahead, and... enjoy that quieter tour time when you can really appreciate mother nature's wonders. @courtney_a92 via Instagram
