Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity. For generations we have been calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of our culture and heritage. We are still waiting for those robust protections. This year’s theme also seeks substantive institutional, structural, and collaborative reform something generations of our Elders and communities have been advocating, marching and fighting for. Healing Country means finally resolving many of the outstanding injustices which impact on the lives of our people. It is about hearing and actioning our aspirations which are the culmination of generations of consultation and discussions among our nations on a range of issues and grievances. After 250 years, our children and our future generations deserve better.

14.01.2022 The Cassowary Coast Men's Group held their break up last week, enjoying a lovely day at Babinda Boulders with a healthy lunch. Big thanks to Edward Kyle & Collin Mooka from our Social & Emotional Well Being team to get it back up and running after the COVID-19 shut down.

14.01.2022 Back To School Bash On Friday the 22nd Mamu Deadly Choices officers Tania Ramsey & Keagen Widdicombe held a Back to School bash at Warrina Lake Innisfail. Innisfail Library, Innisfail Community Support Centre, VPG and Cassowary Coast Community kids held stalls with activities for all the students who attended. All of the kids had lots of fun jumping on the jumping castle but the big hit was a classic game of down ball. We finished the day off with a Sausage sizzle, some fresh fruit and nice cold bottles of water. Overall the day was a big success with a good number of family attending and the rain staying away. I would like to thank Innisfail Library, Innisfail Community Support Centre, VPG, Cassowary Coast Community kids, Super Castles and Ryan Malita for the Support on the day.

It was a tribute to Australia’s cult...ure, history and identity. As the ceremony concluded with former Australian Olympic champion Herb Elliott bringing the Olympic Flame into the stadium the crowd waited in quiet anticipation for who would light the stadium’s Olympic torch. Finally, it was revealed Cathy Freeman, Australia’s athletic darling at the time.This was an emotional moment for the nation symbolising the Australian people’s desire to reconcile with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Ten days later, Cathy continued to capture the nation's and the world’s heart when she won the gold medal in the 400 metre sprint.
