25.01.2022 Some missions are far easier than others. Preparing this apartment for sale took little more than adding some dining chairs. The furniture choices I made with the owner when I coordinated the move from her previous family home have held up well. Knowing the intricacies of how my client lives made making these choices, and those I have made for the new home she has moved into, easy. I have grown to love this apartment and the view it enjoys over Rushcutters Bay Park. Whilst Sydneysiders are obsessed with the harbour there are other outlooks to be enjoyed.

25.01.2022 House-whispering is something I have always done. Reworking this Central Coast townhouse with the owner proved what is possible when you think outside the box. The kitchen felt small and cramped until we hatched a plan to visually incorporate the laundry into the space. The use of the batten style ceiling draws the eye to the far corner and makes the two spaces read as one. Looking for a relaxed beachside retreat with an urban edge? You could do far worse.

24.01.2022 Workshopping options for the window at United Culture to showcase art and product.

20.01.2022 Flatpacks ruin relationships. Call me and outsource the frustration.

18.01.2022 Something 'speaks to you' yet Marie Kondo thanking of an object for its service seems fanciful. Whilst the Shinto "animistic" belief that animate and inanimate things have spirits or souls that should be revered is no longer current Kondo's practice reveals the enduring influence such beliefs had on the Japanese society. I surround myself with things that remind me to remember stories of my family: many of which precede my existence. I treasure these for their form, function and fable in equal measure. Here Hermes, arguably the most covetable of all brands in bag land, share a beautiful tale of an intimate relationship with the inanimate. Can I consider this a response of sorts to the antics of those influencers who flaunt luxury goods on YouTube?

18.01.2022 I fell in love with Bangkok on my first visit. On each subsequent trip I have spent hours wandering whilst soaking up all the sights, sounds and smells this seemingly endless city offers up. I keep my eye on the work of a couple of Thai developers whose work consistently delights me. I was already falling in love with the spaces Pruksa have created in their new development, Chapter Thonglor 25- 25, when an all too familiar phrase leapt off the wall. 'Laissez les bon temps rouler' is the cajun phrase that dictates life in New Orleans, Louisiana. The message is perfect as there is a contagious playfulness to these spaces. Make every space invite all that enter to 'let the good times roll'.

16.01.2022 This proposed reworking of the front porch of a Blue Mountains cottage. It seeks to create a sense of arrival whilst adding some period details, makes space for a dining area and provides connection to the front garden and the view of the gully beyond.

15.01.2022 Is it the countdown to my birthday? Is it the downsizing from a large apartment I am working on with a client? Who knows. For whatever reason it occurred to me have a poke around and see what options there are in over 55 communities in the highlands. I came across this listing https://www.realestate.com.au/property-apartment-nsw-bowral. Whilst fairly grim in its current state it has enough space to come up with quite a liable small space which as it faces north should be flooded with light. The relocation of the kitchenette into the widened door opening creates some not unsolvable plumbing issues. Sacrificing a toilet and splitting the functions of the bathrooms simplifies the traffic flows in both and creates space for laundry facilities. Whilst it's not time just yet I could be happy here.

07.01.2022 When it comes to choosing what I buy I trust my eye. When it comes to selling it’s all about research.

06.01.2022 Designing a kitchen that packs a punch for an off grid house in Joadja. Off the shelf cabinetry with a butcher's block bench top are given a lift with the addition of a waterfall edge.

05.01.2022 What's new in my cupboards of curiosity today? Unmarked (so presumably not #jurassic) this resin #box would make an ideal #butterdish that would not add to not compromise your #tabledecor. If you don’t covet dairy quite like I do I am sure it would be just as useful for hiding some other treasure. at United Culture.

05.01.2022 Folks often talk about housing affordability. Rarely do people pause to consider how much space they need to live well. Thinking about how I live in a space allowed me to turn a 39m2 dump into an apartment that was the envy of many including some that had much bigger pads. The design of the 118m2 Cliff Hanger benefitted from the same approach. Perhaps living well in the #SouthernHighlands is possible if you just adjust your thinking a little. On a 1020m2 block, just over the ...minimum to permit the construction of a secondary dwelling, in Yerrinbool sits an existing two bedroom cottage. A cosmetic renovation and the construction of an extension containing a master suite, mudroom and garage could easily turn it into a comfortable three bedroom, two bath room home with a distinctly midcentury vibe. Maintaining the #cottage would ensure that the streetscape remains unaffected. The area at the back of the block where another structure could be built doesn't appear to be marked on the Rural Fire Services mapping (a potential construction cost saving). I think this could be a savvy first rung on the property ladder that could grow with you and could provide the site for your next home and then help you pay it off. https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-yerrinbool See more

04.01.2022 It is impossible to deny the existence of the Hamptons. Hamptons Style however doesn’t have any meaning. This ubiquitous moniker is thrown at the crimes of unimaginative homeowners and uninspired designers. If you like the look you have created claim it as your own. Stop blaming a community on the other side of the planet for what’s going on in your lounge room.

01.01.2022 Working on a project for yourself allows you to take risks. Following my gut, without the need to convince a client of the benefits of a decision, paid dividends when I set about reinventing my 39m2 Sydney apartment.
