04.01.2022 AVA'S WISH In the video below is 9 year old Ava Pendry. Ava has Down syndrome, and to say her life has been a struggle is an understatement. Last year her mum w...as diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, and although she fought like hell and is now okay; they have all been through a year of hell. (Sarah is a single mum to Ava and her younger brother). Not to mention that Ava is now on the waiting list for a big operation on her legs to help her walk without pain. But somehow, this amazing family seem to always come out the other end of any hardship full of energy, life, positivity and love. Something that has always kept Ava distracted and pulled her through is reading, and once she lay eyes on the series ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid’ there was no going back. She can quote the movies back to front, and has read every book cover to cover religiously. Last week we decided to send the actor of ‘Greg Heffly’ a message on Twitter asking if he would FaceTime Ava. I told her there was very small chance that he would even see the message, but the very next day he replied saying he would love to talk to her. We figured out a suitable time and the call changed Ava’s life. Jason was so patient and understanding and kind to Ava that it brought tears to everyone's eyes. I posted this video on Facebook for just my family and friends to watch; but it was quickly being shared by people all over the world. Ava has never been on a holiday as her Mum has been unable to work and the costs just aren’t realistic, but it is now my mission to get Ava and her family to the USA to meet Jason Drucker in person. I met Ava about 6 years ago and when I found out her mum had been diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago I started giving her family some extra help as respite is painfully expensive and as a disability worker I believed I had the ability to help the family; and it was the best decision I have ever made- this family is so precious and they deserve this more than anyone I know.
