21.01.2022 New Arrival! Kangaroo Hunter by Kurun Warun. 90cm x 120cm.
21.01.2022 The brother of respected painters Brandy and George Hairbrush Tjungarrayi and the late Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, Willy was born about 1936 at Patjantja, southwest of Lake Mackay in the Northern Territory. By the 1980s Willy was recognized as a senior Pintupi painter, and he joined the movement on return from HaastS Bluff to the Pintupi homelands. He now lives at Walungurru. Stories from the Tingari Dreaming song cycle, and the land around Haasts Bluff, Wilkinkarra (L...ake Mackay) and Kaakuratintja (Lake MacDonald), are Willys two great linked themes. For some subjects Willy paints dozens of dotted roundels (concentric circles), linked by parallel lines, the spaces between them filled with bright, flat primary and mixed colours, a depiction of the travels and stopping places of the Tingari Men, an image of the rhythmic repetition of the songs associated with the Tjukurpa (Creation era or Dreaming). More recently, hundreds of endless wavy lines in an ochre monochrome shimmer across the canvas on a pale background. These paintings illustrate the sandhills and the fierce hailstorm that killed the ancestral Tingari Men in the Dreamtime. Willys work is much sought after, and has been collected into many major private and public collections. See more

21.01.2022 Artist: Yinarupa Nangala Title: My Country Size: 90cm x 153cm Item: 5741... Yinarupa is a Pintupi woman born c. 1948 across the W.A. border in the region of todays settlement of Kiwirrkurra.. She is related by marriage to the families of highly respected and renowned artists George Ward Tjungurrayi and Willy Tjungurrayi. Yinarupa began her painting career in 1996however it is of only in recent times that both her reputation as a prominent aboriginal artist and her works are being highly sort after. In her paintings she depicts her traditional land where the women gather to conduct ceremonial gatherings. The sacred designs represent an intuitive sense of space and rhythm and are associated with the rock hole site of Mikula. During ancestral times a large group of women came from the west and stopped at this site to perform the ceremonies associated with the area.
21.01.2022 As the week comes to a close we cap it off with this Emily Pwerle. Emily currently lives at the small community of Irrultja which is situated within Utopia and home to approximately 100 people. Born in circa 1922 (no record exists) Emily does not have extensive contact with western culture. It was her late sister Minnie Pwerle who encouraged all three of her younger siblings, Emily, Galya and Molly to paint. In 2004 prominent and respected artist Barbara Weir (Minnie Pwerl...e’s daughter) organised a workshop for the sisters with a remarkable painting result. Similar to Minnie’s works which provided enormous freedom and expression, the sisters’ application of paint on canvas also highlighted and expressed their various dreaming which have been handed down through the generations. Emily paints Awelye (Women Business/ Body Painting) which is depicted by a sequence of lines and motifs supported by intertwined design that are blanketed across the canvas by colours which are dramatic in both composition and vibrancy. The patterns typify the drawings painted on women upper bodies to represent a particular ceremony. Emily has mastered her own unique individual style which is regarded as creative, coeval and passionate. Artist : Emily Pwerle Title: Awelye (Body Paint) Size: 120cm x 182cm Code: 3381

14.01.2022 Gracie Pwerle Morton Born: c.1956 Region: Utopia, (Eastern Desert) Language Group: Alyawarre Title: Bush Plum Dreaming... Size: 92cm x 122cm Item: 5722 Price: $2200 Gracie Pwerle Morton began her career as an batik artist in the 1970s. In the works of Gracie one can readily see that the great strength and dynamism of the Utopian women artists that continues across the generations. Gracies delicate dotting and colour variation uses an aerial perspective to portray the seasonal changes of her country through Amwekety the Bush Plum, a plant of great significance to the women of Gracies traditional country, Mosquito Bore. The delightfully subtle paintings of the Amwekety the Bush Plum, depict the changing seasonal influences on a plant that is of the greatest significance to the Alyawrre women of the Eastern Desert region of the Northern Territory. The flourish of colour that distinguishes the Bush Plum after the fall of rain, is quickly transformed with the long hot summer months.. The incredible finesse of Gracies style creates a wonderful lyricism in her works, causing a three-dimensional that pulls at the eye guiding the viewer through the soft, outward-reaching fields of colour.
