08.01.2022 NEWS UPDATE: The Australian Government has introduced a number of temporary measures to assist companies manage the economic impact of the Corona Health Crisis. The key elements of the package are:- a) An increase in the threshold at which creditors may issue a statutory demand from $2,000.00 to $20,000.00.... b) An increase in the threshold for a creditor to initiate bankruptcy proceedings from $5,000.00 to $20,000.00. c) An increase in the time for debtors to respond to a bankruptcy notice from 21 days to 6 months. d) An extension to the period of time a debtor receives after making a declaration of intention to present a debtor's petition from 21 days to 6 months. e) Directors will be relieved from personal liability that would otherwise be associated with insolvent trading for a period of 6 months. f) The Australian Securities and Investment Commission has the power, which it may exercise, to offer relief from some provisions of the Corporations Act or take no action for not complying with some of the provisions.
