25.01.2022 A big shout out to all the Bunnings Halls Head customers who bought sizzles and drinks from us last Sunday. We smashed out 555 snags and a heap of cool drinks on a beautiful warm and sunny day. Thanks also to those who were generous enough to put their change and often more into our tin. Your kind words and generous contributions were very gratefully received. Also thanks to Bunnings for allowing us to be there; to Mother Nature for the beautiful weather; and to Adrian, Richard, Jim, Pam, and Jamie for giving up the day to fundraise.

25.01.2022 Deputy Commissioner Waters goes Shakespearean for our final safety sonnet on #BadPoetryDay. We may joke, but those gutters are no laughing matter! This year-round job can help reduce your risk during bushfire and storm season.
25.01.2022 On Friday night the brigade enjoyed a social night in the new station. We congratulated two long serving members, Brian and Kaye, for reaching the amazing milestone of 35 years (each) in the brigade. Both have been long standing members and have held various positions throughout their time with the brigade. Brian being one of our longest serving Captains. We thank them both for their service and wish them well in their future. Part of the night included a couple awards being handed out. The Captain's award went to Paul for his dedication and commitment to the brigade. And we wont talk about the Shovel award.
25.01.2022 Hello All, Today is RUOK and RU Triple OK Day. This day is important due to its simple but effective message. ... As volunteers, we need to able to respond and deal with a range of emergencies at short notice. Sometimes these incidents will be stressful or worse. We all need to understand that it is ok not to be ok. It is even more ok to ask for help. As a team that relies on each other in stressful and potentially dangerous situations, we need to be looking out for each others mental health as much as for each others safety on the fireground. This is our LACEs for our own wellbeing. So I ask you to remember the key message of today. If you think someone needs it, ask RUOK? Then follow these four simple steps: 1. Ask 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check-in Whether were on the fireground or not. Not just today, but every day. So: RUOK? Adrian Captain Mandurah Southern Districts Bushfire Brigade
24.01.2022 Although it's a quiet time for bushfires, winter is the busiest time for house fires. In 2019 there were 476 recorded house fires, many of which could have been prevented, and some of which resulted in fatalities. In these cold nights it's all too tempting to leave the fire on in an empty room, or put the clothes just a little closer to the electric heater. As most fatal fires occur between midnight and 4am, the need for a working smoke alarm is essential.Have you checked you...rs recently? 16.01.2022 Yesterday the brigade was privileged to host a range of guests on the occasion of the opening of our new fire station by the Hon David Templeman MLA and Mr Murray Carter, Executive Director of the Rural Fire Division. Also in attendance was the Mayor of the City of Mandurah, Mr Rhys Williams and CEO Mr Mark Newman, as well as several Councillors and members of the DFES Metro South Coastal region team. The new station is a significant improvement on our previous 60 year old ...shed, meaning we can now cool off in air-conditioning after an incident, hear each other talk when it rains and use the 'facilities' that were somewhat absent from the old place. None of this happens without the help and assistance of the wider emergency services team, both in Council and DFES, so the brigade would sincerely like to thank Myra, Ali and PJ from the Council and Terry from DFES. We are lucky to have such great support. Finally, I would like to thank the brigade for their continuous commitment - so deserving of a new station - as well as their help in making yesterday go off without a hitch. But most of all I want to thank their families in providing the support they need to be ready to go at a moment's notice. While we will always have the reminder of the old station just up the hill, the new facility represents new opportunities and many more years of protecting the local community. Here's to another 60 plus years! Cheers, Adrian Captain

11.01.2022 WA is expected to be hit by a very rare weather event from this arvo, which could see wild weather hit WA from Exmouth to Esperance, with wind gusts of up to 13...5km! While most storm damage is preventable, it is important to know who to call if your home is damaged, flooded or a large tree has come down on your house or driveway. The SES are on stand-by and ready to assist WA residents 24/7 should the need arise. If you are unsure of when to call them, ask yourself the questions in the image below. When calling for assistance please remember: To speak slowly and clearly Tell us exactly where to come All requests are prioritised by urgency Major structural damage will be attended to first Avoid clogging up emergency hotlines with unrelated requests Keep up to date as the situation changes Find the latest alerts and warnings: https://bit.ly/2fU94Yo Keep an eye on the weather: https://bit.ly/2WRuj0x Find your local ABC Radio Station: https://ab.co/2XnaMnU When you need SES assistance after severe weather, call 132 500 For fallen trees over roads contact, your local shire or call Main Roads on 13 81 38

10.01.2022 Take action with severe weather coming in parts of the Great Southern, Lower South West Update time: 11:30 AM, 09 November 2020 If you live in South Coas...tal and parts of South West, South East Coastal and Great Southern districts you should take action and stay safe with severe weather to come. Locations which may be affected include Albany, Katanning, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Wagin and Walpole. This weather is typical of a winter-time cold front, but is occurring unseasonably late in the year. Cancellation of severe weather warning for parts of the Goldfields-Midlands, Perth Metropolitan. The severe weather warning for Lower West and Central Wheat Belt districts has been cancelled. WEATHER DETAILS: Thunderstorms associated with the front may produce damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts to around 90 km/h, which could cause damage to homes and property. Thunderstorms are most likely to occur on the frontal boundary, which is currently moving across the South West Capes, then will move northward to reach Mandurah in the late morning and then extending eastwards across the Central Wheat Belt, Great Southern and South Coastal districts during the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms associated with the front may also produce heavy rainfall southwest of a line from Bunbury to Windy Harbour which may lead to flash flooding during Monday morning. Gusty conditions will continue across southwestern WA in the wake of the front. Keep up to date as the situation changes: Find the latest warnings: https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au Keep an eye on the weather: https://bit.ly/2WRuj0x Find your local ABC Radio Station: https://ab.co/2XnaMnU If you need SES assistance call 132 500
09.01.2022 The team from Falcon were out hydrant servicing this morning. The purpose of this activity is to ensure that all the hydrants in our district are ready for use ...in an emergency situation. Whilst the majority of hydrants we service are easy to access, some unfortunately are obstructed by vehicles or rubbish - in this case it was turf. Whilst it's great weather this morning to be digging a hole - it's the last thing you want us to be doing if your house is burning down. If you have a hydrant on your property, please check it regularly.
09.01.2022 Last night the brigade attended a pile burn that had started to spread to nearby trees, not a huge issue but it certainly had potential. We extinguished the fire and reduce the intensity of the pile and departed after speaking to the owner. When burning in the City of Mandurah remember the conditions on your seasonal fire permit: https://www.mandurah.wa.gov.au//Fire-Permit-Application-20... However, we really want to remind everyone in our community to think about more than just the conditions that are on the permit. We really want people to think about some key factors like where they are going to light up, what is around and above the area of the burn and the weather conditions. Take a few moments to be safe and prepared. I highly recommend consulting and understanding this excellent resource from DFES: https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/plannedburning/ . Importantly, as they did last night - please call 000 if you require assistance. Remember, burn smart burn safe. Cheers, Adrian Captain
08.01.2022 Our Bushfire Brigade is like family, dont hesitate to reach out in a time of need - we all have each others backs and wouldnt hesitate to help one another.
08.01.2022 On the recommendation of the Bush Fire Advisory Committee and as approved by Council, the following changes have been made to the Citys Fire Break and Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice 2020/2021, which was Gazetted on Friday 4th September 2020. Due to increasingly dry conditions creating much higher fire risk, permits to burn garden refuse will only be issued and valid between 1 May and 31 October.... All permits will be cancelled from 1 November 2020. This means you must complete your burning by midnight on 31 October 2020. Recognising the reduced period to utilise Permits to Burn, owners of properties between 4000m2 and 20000m2 are now permitted to burn one fire at a time not exceeding 2m3. This increases the size from the previous 1m3. Owners of properties 20,000m2 and over may only burn one fire at a time not to exceed 3m3. All other conditions relating to the burning remain the same and must be complied with at all times. Should you have any further queries, please call Ranger Services on 9550 3777

06.01.2022 There are 2,300 Volunteer Fire and Rescue Firefighters in Western Australia. Along with their 1,000 VFES, 25,000 BFB, 2,100 SES and 1,400 VMRS counter-parts - t...he close to 32,000 volunteers provide the majority of Western Australia's emergency response capability. Each individual volunteer gives up their own time to train to both meet and maintain the required standard to ensure they are competent to perform their role. On top of this, they often maintain full-time employment and contribute positively towards both the community and the economy in roles such as Policing, Health-Care, Mining, Teaching, Construction, Transport, Corrections, Defence, Science, Engineering, Public Transport, Security and Agriculture. On top of this, when they are not keeping our community and State safe, many of those volunteers give up additional time to head interstate to support both national and international disaster response efforts on behalf of the State of WA. Whilst there may be those out there that don't particularly value the contribution of volunteers - or view those volunteers as less because they are unpaid, Falcon just wanted to say thank you. Whilst normally we try to avoid self-indulgence, as a result of some media coverage we just wanted to say thank you to all Volunteers both within the metropolitan area and those in the regions. We get it. Thank you for giving up your weekends. Thank you for giving up full nights of sleep. Thank you for giving up your holidays. Thank you for giving up your family time. Thank you for forgoing secondary employment. Thank you for your commitment. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for risking your life to protect others. Thank you for your professionalism.
