25.01.2022 The current wind is below our limit, but the forecasters predicted it would be above it all day today. Even though they are pretty good generally, we found their forecast was a little out yesterday and managed to get a few people through. So we'll head down today and aim to be set up between 9-9:30am with our fingers crossed as usual. We'll let you know if/when the wind/gusts get too strong and if we have to leave early. Based on experience with the 'doctor', we suggest you come sooner rather than later if you want to SUP with us today..
25.01.2022 We are still getting enquiries from prospective customers about our availability to hire SUP boards. This notice is to advise those who don't know that we have ceased operations and are in the process of shutting down the business. However, we are willing to arrange a mutually convenient time to honour vouchers for those of you with vouchers that were bought last season. Please contact us through this page or our normal mobile photo during normal business hours. Please see our earlier posted notice below for more background to our decision. Thank you and sorry for any inconvenience.
24.01.2022 Looks like the wind has finally given us a chance to set up today. We should be down there and set up by 10:30am. Not sure how long before the wind blows us away, but we suggest you don't leave it for too long if you want a paddle with us today!
24.01.2022 The current wind is well below our limit and predicted to stay there for most of the day. Despite the current gloomy cloud cover, we'll aim to be set up between 9-9:30am. School holidays are here and winter is getting closer - now is the time folks as our season will be coming to a close at the end of this month, ie only two weeks away!
24.01.2022 Looks like the wind stayed down yesterday after we decided not to set up! This is getting nearly as frustrating as trying to play golf! Anyway, we're going to head down this morning and try our luck. We hope to set up between 8:30 and 9. As usual, be earlier rather than later if you want to have a paddle in reasonable conditions. Remember, our 10/15 min brief/demo is free and isn't subtracted from your hire time.
24.01.2022 We managed to get a few folk through but the wind is now too strong so we're heading home.
23.01.2022 The wind appears to be cooperating this morning but the forecasters are predicting it may gust up to our limit around 1-2pm so we will plan to be set up by 9am to hopefully get some of you on our boards this morning. However, we will stay until the wind gets too strong or we run out of customers!
23.01.2022 Great to see reflections in the water. It means perfect conditions for SUPing, kayaking and water skiing, especially for beginners. However, we don't do kayaking or water skiing. But we're pretty good at SUPing! If you want to have a go, as usual, our advice is to come sooner rather than later.
22.01.2022 Please be advised that, as part of our shutting down process, we have just disconnected our mobile telephone and can no longer be contacted by that means. This Facebook page and our web site mandurahsup.com.au will remain on line until further notice but will be shut down in due course. We are no longer operational and are not taking any bookings. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
22.01.2022 We've been waiting to make a go/no go announcement because the wind has a mind of it's own and we can't control it! Anyway, it appears that the forecasters think it will abate by about 10am and be suitable for beginners until around 4pm. So we'll aim to be set up at 10am and keep our fingers crossed that the forecasters are right! We hope to see some of you today if you haven't over indulged on chocolate Easter eggs!
22.01.2022 The wind is currently gusting above our limit but forecast to abate somewhat later today. We'll keep an eye out on it and reassess the conditions at 10am.
22.01.2022 Sorry for the delayed notice, but we've been in two minds about setting up today. While the steady wind is just below our limit and forecast to stay there for some time, the gusts can get strong and could be problematic for beginners. We also expect a lot of people are doing their last minute Christmas shopping and may not have SUPing high on their priority list! Based on our experience and family commitments, we won't be setting up this weekend but will go to our Wednesday to Sunday operating cycle after Christmas. Keep an eye out on this page for more details. Meanwhile, to all our customers, we hope you have a very merry Christmas with your families. Cheers!
22.01.2022 The wind is tracking below what the forecast predicted and below our limit so we'll aim to be set up by 9:30am today. The forecast is for the steady wind to go above our limit around 4-5pm but it's the gusts that have been problematic and have often caused us to pack up early. As usual our advice is to get to us sooner rather than later. Let's hope we can get a few of you out in ideal conditions today.
22.01.2022 The wind is currently well below our limit and forecast to stay there for most of today. Unfortunately there is a line of thunderstorms passing by that has put a bit of a dampener on our plan to set up earlier this morning. However, the radar indicates it may pass us by in the next hour or so. We will keep monitoring the situation and let you know if/when we decide to set up.
21.01.2022 Unfortunately the wind is above our limits and the forecast is for it to remain strong all day, with the possibility of showers.or a storm developing. We won't operating today.
20.01.2022 It looks like we'll get another morning where the wind will be below our limit so we'll plan to set up by 9:30am. We hope to see some of you before the wind gets too strong around midday. Yesterday one of our customers had the pleasure and privilege of having a dolphin inspect him from just under his board while his dog tried to get a ride on his partner's board. Meanwhile three others had fun, with one beginner putting in an excellent effort in getting up and eventually staying up for most of his session.
20.01.2022 One day soon this weather will transition fully from winter to spring. But not this weekend. Maybe next weekend. We will be closely monitoring the weather forecast and let you know when we plan to set up for a session. Sorry we didn't put up a 'no go' notice yesterday but we're getting tired of doing it and got sidetracked so the next time we comment on this page will be with a 'go' notice! Come on spring/summer!
20.01.2022 It may appear a little gloomy out there at the moment but the forecasters are predicting 27c max and the wind to stay below our limit until around 11am/midday. So we will be set up by 9am and hope some of you early bird SUPers will get to us before the wind does!
19.01.2022 It's a little gloomy at the moment but according to the forecasters, the wind may drop below our limits around 10am and stay low for a few hours. So we'll aim to set up around 9:30am and stay until we're blown away. As usual, we'll have our finger's crossed!
19.01.2022 The view from our 'office' under a tree on a beautiful Sunday afternoon of a summer long weekend in Western Australia. Thinking about the cold snap in Europe where the Dutch are skating on their canals and the English are training for their cricket season on snow covered grounds. We're empathising and commiserating. Sort of.
19.01.2022 We waited to put up our 'go/no go' notice to see if the weather forecasters may have overestimated the wind strength for today but unfortunately it seems like they've got it pretty close and have estimated it will stay above our limit all day so we won't be setting up. As usual, we'll keep our eye on the forecast and keep our fingers crossed that the wind will be kind to us soon.
18.01.2022 The weather is looking good at the moment and the winds are forecast to stay below our limits until around midday so we will try to set up about 9am. Not sure if we'll be there after lunch. Fingers crossed, as usual!
17.01.2022 Well, the temperature is finally reaching reasonable levels this time of year with a maximum of 28c forecast for today but it's also the windy time of year and currently it's blowing at 30kph, gusting to 40kph and forecast to not go below our limit of 20kph. Unfortunately that means we won't be setting up today.
17.01.2022 We're here and hopefully some of you will get an opportunity to come down and have a paddle with us before the wind picks up and exceeds our limit. Just a reminder that we will be shutting down our season operations at the end of this month so those who have current vouchers should come and see us soon.
17.01.2022 The current wind is well below that forecast and may stay below our limit until 1pm. However, as we can't control it and our experience has shown, it could also quickly reach the forecast levels and blow us away well before then! So we will aim to set up at 9am and hope to get a few paddlers through before the sea breeze arrives. We're also hoping we can help each other wear off some of those delicious chocolate Easter eggs the bunny brought us this morning!
16.01.2022 The weather is nearly suitable for SUP beginners but the wind is gusting above our limits and is forecast to stay there all day. We've been waiting to see if it was worth going down but it seems like the wind doesn't want to cooperate. It also looks like the temperature will remain at or below 20c for this coming week so we'll keep our fingers crossed for next weekend.
16.01.2022 Guess what? The forecasters are predicting good conditions for SUPing for beginners from 10am to about 3pm. So we'll aim be set up by around 9:30am. The forecast isn't looking as good for tomorrow, but it can change at any time so keep an eye out for our intentions notice for Sunday on this page around this time tomorrow.
16.01.2022 Unfortunately the current wind is well above our limit and expected to stay there all day. We'll keep an eye on it and let you know if the situation improves and we decide to set up. We're not holding our breath!
16.01.2022 Well. It's been a long time between drinks. Finally, it seems like the planets may have aligned and the weather gods are in a good mood. We're planning on setting up at around 9-9:30am and hope that the wind stays away for at least a few hours today. We're not sure that Saturday/Sunday will be ok but the forecasters are guessing that Monday may be. We suggest you 'make hay while the sun shines'. We're fast approaching the end of the season. Happy Easter everyone!
15.01.2022 The wind is still below our limits and now the thunderstorms have passed by, we'll go down and aim to be set up around 12 - 12:30 to see if any of you would like to have a paddle this afternoon. Hopefully the weather will stay suitable.
15.01.2022 According to the forecasters and the current/forecast wind strengths, today will be a perfect day for SUPing, especially for beginners. Let's hope that some of you are available and have a chance to take advantage of the calm before winter arrives. These days have been 'far and few between' this season! We'll aim to be set up around 9-9:30am.
14.01.2022 We were lucky enough to get a few customers (see attached photos) through yesterday before the wind came and blew us away around midday. Unfortunately, the forecast for today and the rest of the week is very disappointing but not surprising in one of the windiest cities in the world! We'll keep monitoring the forecast and let you know when we will be able to set up again. In the meantime, we hope you all have a very prosperous and happy new year. Cheers!
14.01.2022 Happy new year everyone! We don't normally work on Mondays or Tuesdays because we use that period as our 'weekend off', However, the forecasters have reassessed that the wind will be below our limits this morning so we'll go down and set up around 9:30am and keep our fingers crossed that some of you will be able to have some fun on our beautiful boards this morning. Don't leave it too late as the sea breeze comes in around midday.
14.01.2022 This might be hard to believe but despite what the forecast said yesterday, the current wind is well below our limit and now forecast to stay there for most of the day! So we'll try to get set up between 9-9:30am and hope to see some of you today. As usual, and based on our experience, turning up sooner rather than later may be the best plan but we'll stay anyway until the wind blows us away. These low wind days have been very rare this season so let's make the most of it folks. Winter is coming! Cheers.
12.01.2022 The weather forecasters get their predictions fairly close most of the time but every now and then they miss the mark. This morning the wind is well below their expectations and our limit so we will aim to be set up by 9:30 and stay until it blows us away. Generally that happens around midday, so, as usual, come sooner rather than later if you want to try this wonderful activity on our beautiful Suplove boards in ideal conditions for beginners.
12.01.2022 Hi Folks, just a reminder to our followers that Mandurah Stand Up Paddle Hire has been shut down and no longer operates. We are about to put the business out for sale and would appreciate any expressions of interest from those of you looking to buy it outright or please pass on our intentions to those who you think may be interested. We don't have a selling ask figure for you to go on yet but work on paying a fair price for a very good bespoke trailer with 14 excellent quality SUP boards of varying sizes/condition (ranging from good used to brand new) and ancillary equipment. Failing our ability to sell the package as a whole, we will consider selling individual items in the next month or two. Send your expressions of interest to our email address [email protected] and keep an eye out for further notices. Thanks.
12.01.2022 Wow! Would you believe the wind is currently below 5 kph and forecast to stay below our limit (20kph) until just after lunch? If you want to paddle with us or learn how to, we suggest you come down this morning. We'll aim to be set up by 9am. We haven't moved to week day ops yet because the wind forecast isn't looking that great. If we do, we'll probably only operate on low wind days from Wednesday to Sunday inclusive. We'll keep you posted and let you know when we move to that cycle.
12.01.2022 Just in case anyone is wondering, we won't be setting up today as the wind is yet again well above our limit and forecast to stay there all day (as well as for most of the next few days). We're beyond being frustrated and feel sorry for all those that are being delayed in ticking off one of their buckellst items or just wanting to have fun on our boards. Clearly safety is our primary concern, not our profit margin! Just be assured we'll get out there as soon as the weather cooperates. Sorry for the inconvenience the wind can cause to us non-sailoring types, but at least it cools us down and brings us rain!
12.01.2022 This morning when we saw that the wind was well below the levels forecast, we started to get ready to go down and set up. Half way through our preparations we checked again and it had suddenly risen to above our limit to 22kph, gusting to 26kph and as I type this it has come down below our limit again but forecast to go up and stay high all day, just like yesterday! We're beyond frustrated, just sad we can't help some of you to get onto our beautiful boards. Meanwhile, winter is fast approaching ...
12.01.2022 The forecasters are predicting low winds for most of today and max temperature of 31c so we'll be setting up around 9-9:30am. The weather for tomorrow may be ok for a few hours in the morning but as usual, there can be no guarantees!
12.01.2022 Wow. So currently the actual wind is nearly non existent and forecasters predict it will stay below our limit until around 4pm today. Despite being 'gobsmacked', we'll aim to be set up by 9:30am, hoping there may be a few of you who can take advantage of these excellent conditions (28c max) to have a paddle in the middle of this week. Chances are these conditions won't be around for very long as the forecast is not looking good for Friday and the weekend.
12.01.2022 Winds at 20kph, gusting to 30kph and forecast to stay well above our limit all day. The temperature is right and there's no rain about but sadly we won't be setting up today. Unfortunately, tomorrow isn't looking much better. Blown away by the wind yet again. Have fun sailors ...
12.01.2022 Wonderful to see families and friends having fun in excellent conditions on our beautiful Suplove boards this morning. Despite there being a couple of first timers and a few with low experience, no one fell in. Hence the smiles. Well done everyone!
11.01.2022 The wind is above our limit and forecast to stay above it all day. Max temp 36c and 20% chance of showers this afternoon. Unfortunately, based on the strong winds we won't be setting up today.
10.01.2022 It looks like the wind may be below our limit from about 10am to 2pm according to the forecasters so we'll aim to be set up by 9:30am. As usual, if you want a paddle, we suggest you come and see us earlier rather than later today. Just as a reminder, we are one of the few SUP hirers in this area that cater especially to first timers and provide free basic instructions and a demo on how to paddle and control our beautiful Suplove boards.
10.01.2022 The current wind is close to our limit and the gusts are above it. However, the forecasters are predicting we should see it go down around 10am and stay at reasonable levels until 3pm. On that basis, unless they've got it wrong, we'll aim to set up around 10-10:30am and in the meantime we'll keep our fingers crossed yet again. Would you believe they're predicting reasonable winds after midday tomorrow (we aim to set up on public holidays) at this stage so we may get another chance then.
09.01.2022 Looks like we're in for excellent SUPing conditions this morning. The forecast is for some clouds, low wind until around 1pm, and a maximum temperature of 24c. We look forward to seeing some of you this morning and will aim to be set up around 9-9:30am.
09.01.2022 As the forecasters predicted, the wind has calmed down a bit and the temperature has reached a comfortable level. We've set up so if you'd like a paddle, this afternoon might be a good time to do it. Just another reminder that we'll be shutting down our season operations after Monday.
09.01.2022 Rain and thunderstorms heading our way, so we're packing up and heading home.
09.01.2022 The steady wind is borderline at the moment but the gusts are over our limit and the forecast is for the wind to get stronger during the day. We'll keep an eye out and let you know if things get better, but it doesn't look like we'll be setting up today.
08.01.2022 Here's what the sailing tackers do when there's no wind. They get a towed tour of the canals. Not a bad deal!
08.01.2022 There's another great opportunity for Perth residents to see the International Space Station tonight barring any cloud cover. Look South West, low towards the sea horizon (between Africa and Busselton) at 8:58pm and it should appear heading towards us and climb in the sky to 70above the horizon and pass close to be over the top of us at 9:03pm heading over the land towards the North East (Darwin), disappearing by 9:09pm. Good luck, good viewing and Happy New Year everyone!
07.01.2022 Conditions were a little chilly to start with this morning but are beautiful at the moment. Not sure how long it will last.
07.01.2022 Some of you may be wondering why our notifications/photos haven't been appearing on this page this season. To cut a long story short, and without listing all the reasons, we have decided to stop trading. This would have been our fifth season but we've decided to 'hang up our boots' and retire. For those of you who may have vouchers that you bought last season and were hoping to use this season, we can offer to arrange a suitable time and place for you and us to allow you to ...redeem them in the next month or two. Give us a call during normal working hours or send us a message on this page so we can coordinate this arrangement. Unfortunately we are unable to provide any refunds. The decision to shut down didn't come lightly and Jan and I are very sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause. We very much enjoyed seeing our customers get up, stay up and control our boards. We feel satisfied that our hiring model of using high quality boards, giving free instructions and operating in light wind conditions and flat water helped a lot of our beginners and gave you confidence in coming back to this wonderful sport. We will particularly miss seeing families and friends having great fun and bonding together on our boards and coming back with big smiles on their faces. We are considering putting the business up for sale but if that fails, we will probably be selling our boards and equipment individually. We will confirm which way we go on this page as soon as we can. Finally, a big thank you to all our customers and followers. We appreciate your patronage, nice comments and positive feedback. We hope you will find other providers and continue to have fun SUPing. We wish you a merry Christmas and a very safe, prosperous and happy new year.
06.01.2022 While the wind is currently below our limit and may stay there till midday, unfortunately, due to personal reasons, we won't be operating today. However, the forecast for tomorrow is looking good from about 9am to 2pm so we'll be aim to set up then.
06.01.2022 This isn't really related to SUPing, but for those of you who live in Perth or South West WA and are interested in space and love to see man made objects flying across the sky, I have it on good authority that if you go outside tomorrow night (Monday 17th Dec) at 8:32pm and look North North West (towards Geraldton) slightly above the horizon you will see a small bright 'light' (about the brightness of Venus) appearing and moving from left to right rising higher into the night... sky, reaching about 50 degrees above the horizon directly East of Perth and moving at a constant speed towards the South East (Esperance) before descending and disappearing over the horizon at about 8:38pm. That dot will be the International Space Station with 6 astronauts aboard, travelling at about 27,500 kph (or 7.7km per second!), approximately 420km above the earth. The ISS took about 10 years and over 30 rocket/shuttle missions to build, is the size of a US football field, weighs 460 tons, has been up there for 20 years, has been constantly manned for 18 years and has been orbiting the earth once every 92 minutes since Nov 1998 (that's a lot of km!) Tomorrow night will be one (of many) of the best times for West Australians to see the sun reflect off its solar panels as it passes within about 500km to the East of Perth. The only thing that can spoil our view is cloud, so lets keep our fingers crossed that it's a clear night. Good luck and I hope you remember to look and have a chance to enjoy the view. See more
06.01.2022 For those of you who may be wondering why we don't put up our 'go/no go' notices, it's because the wind has been consistently above our limit for a long time now and all our followers would have been receiving too many 'no go' messages! Today we were looking forward to reasonable wind and to post a 'go' message but unfortunately it has come in with a vengeance yet again, despite what the forecast predicted a day or two ago. We'll keep monitoring it to see if it drops and we'll let you know if it gets safe enough for us to set up.
05.01.2022 Would you believe the forecasters are predicting the winds to be below our limit up until about midday today? Max temp 29c, partly cloudy. So we'll aim to be set up around 9am and look forward to getting some of you through before the 'doctor' arrives! Unfortunately it's not looking good for the rest of the weekend. Now that the weather is warming up, we're thinking of setting up at times during the week when the wind is favourable. We'll keep you posted.
05.01.2022 Ok folks, if there's anyone still out there following this page, we're finally ready to sell our business. If anyone is interested in buying it, please send a genuine expression of interest with your details to [email protected] and we will send you all the details of the package. We have decided to give our followers first chance of acquiring a business we started from scratch, enjoyed operating it for close to 5 years and due to retirement are now ready to give other...s the opportunity to be the boss and run a business in a healthy way. If you're not interested but know of anyone who may be, please let them know. If we can't sell it as a package deal through this page we'll advertise it via on line web pages such as Marketplace, Gumtree and Ebay and if that fails, we'll sell individual items in due course. As we've had a number of people who've said they were interested in buying just our boards, our database needs to be refreshed as we're aware there have been many changes since then, so please let us know if you're still interested. Thank you for your support in the past and we hope everyone is still well and healthy in these very difficult times. See more
05.01.2022 Well, for a nice change, the wind stayed at reasonable levels up to about 3pm today and we were able to get through a good mix of SUP beginners, some experienced paddlers and Rod, a SUP instructor from Eden NSW who enjoyed a good work out and gave a few of our beginners some excellent advice in refining their paddling techniques. Thanks Rod and to all our other customers who had a lot of fun enjoying our beautiful Suplove boards in some excellent to reasonable weather conditions. As usual, it was also wonderful to see a few families enjoying their SUPing experience together and great to see Anne who managed to stay up after a short 'water temperature test' and was able to cross SUPing off her 'bucket list' with flying colours! Well done everyone!
04.01.2022 The forecast for today is sunny with a max temperature of 26c and wind below our limit until around 2pm. As usual, come sooner rather than later if you would like to have a paddle on one of our beautiful boards. We'll be set up between 9-9:30am. Yesterday the weather turned out to be very good and the dolphins put on a wonderful 'fishing show' for me and the residents/tourists in one of the domestic canals nearby for at least half an hour before I left. Wonderful to see them swimming around and under my board in clear water conditions, sometimes with a large mullet in their mouth! They are so fast and powerful which is not so good for the mullet, but that's nature at work. No shops for dolphins but fresh fish aplenty! What a privilege to see. I'm not saying they'll be back today.
04.01.2022 Perfect weather to get out and have a paddle before the wind picks up and winter sets in. We'll be set up this morning as soon as we can and will stay until the wind (or lack of customers!) forces us to go home. Just a reminder that we'll be shutting down at the end of this month.
03.01.2022 The wind is currently well below our limit and forecast to stay there for most of today, with a maximum temperature of 23c and partly cloudy. We'll aim to set up between 10-10:30am. It was wonderful to see mum and her baby frolicking and fishing with another adult dolphin near our site for about 20 minutes yesterday. No promises that they'll be back today but our fingers will be crossed.
03.01.2022 The wind is currently well below our limit so we'll aim to be set up by 9 am today. The forecasters estimated the low wind wouldn't arrive until around midday today and would last until 5pm but we think it may have arrived a few hours earlier than they expected, so that makes us think the sea breeze may arrive a bit sooner as well. So, as usual, we suggest you come see us sooner rather than later today to take advantage of 'the calm before the storm!' It was great to see some families have fun on our boards in excellent conditions yesterday.
03.01.2022 The wind is below our limit and forecast to stay at reasonable levels until just after midday. We'll try to be set up between 9-9:30am. The forecast for tomorrow is not so good.
03.01.2022 The wind is just below our limit at the moment but forecast to go to and stay higher all day. There is also a high chance of showers or thunderstorms this morning. That means we won't be setting up. Tomorrow morning looks a bit more promising at this stage.
02.01.2022 So the wind seems like it will be suitable for SUPing this morning but only for a short period, so we'll aim to be set up by 9am. The forecast is that the wind will pick up by midday, so if you want a paddle today, come see us soon.
01.01.2022 Just for something different the wind is too strong for too long for us to operate safely today and forecast to be stronger tomorrow! Frustrating now that school holidays and warm weather is here. Sorry for any inconvenience. One day we'll be able to control the weather. But don't hold your breath!
