25.01.2022 Just heard a sad news - Sonny Chua, the composer of the very popular "T-Rex Hungry" (piano grade 2) has passed away. His music inspired so many students, including myself in Australia and internationally. I couldn't find words to describe the loss.
25.01.2022 One of the best loved piece "Hungry Herbie Hippo" played by Miss 5yo, who only started her piano journey this term. It requires a lot of attention to play a duet as a beginner and she did really well!
25.01.2022 Miss year 6 has a love for contemporary feel music. After completing her recent grade 5 piano for leisure exams with distinction, she has embarked an adventure in learning to play a few pop music she is listening right now. Here she was filmed playing "Lovely" by Ellie Ellish and Khalid. She learnt the piece and played in good fluency within 2 weeks. When I looked at her music sheets, there were writing here and there to remind herself what needs to pay attention to. This just showed what an independent student is: a student who is curious about the (music) world, who can apply knowledge and able to solve problem herself. A very very proud teacher right now
24.01.2022 Isolated time, what is better than practice? Just received this practice video from Miss Year 2 playing "the Ash Grove" along the accompaniment track. Lovely playing!!
24.01.2022 While most of the piano teacher workshops were canceled in Australia, many overseas ones go online for free, such as this early childhood music workshop in my hometown Hong Kong. It focuses on children brain development and how music enhances children's learning. It was a great night!
22.01.2022 Yes the studio is now moved to Quakers Hill. Today is my first teaching day! Looking forward to seeing everyone in the new place!!
22.01.2022 Congratulations to you all for completing your very first piano book! Looking forward to more piano adventures with you!
21.01.2022 Hows your holidays practice going? As well as polishing your newly learnt pieces, perhaps you can also go back to the older pieces or even the older books for revision. If you find them really easy, congratulations, it means you are doing really well! If you dont, dont worry, you have time to go through them now. Let me know if you have questions during practice. I am happy to help :) For those of you who use Piano Safari and enjoy playing duet (with me during the lesson...s - one thing I greatly miss in face-to-face lessons), here are the links for the accompaniment tracks in Repertoire Book 1 and 2: https://pianosafari.com/repertoire-book-1-accompaniments-/ https://pianosafari.com/repertoire-book-2-accompaniments-/ Have fun in your practice! Send me a video or two if you have worked out something!
21.01.2022 Lets rock!! Another best loved piece - Captain Hooks Rockin Party from Piano Adventures Level 2B, played by Miss Year 3.
21.01.2022 These 3 very adorable students finished their first book in their piano journey. Congratulations! And thank you for staying focus and so committed in practice. Look forward to our adventure next year! Keep up the good work!
20.01.2022 An important function to note when using Zoom
20.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Miss Year 3 for achieving a distinction in her first ever examination!
17.01.2022 A little laugh in this world full of negative
16.01.2022 Winter is gone in the southern hemisphere but we still enjoy "Whipped Cream Hot Chocolate Day", played here by Mr Kindy. This is his very first video recording. It took him a while to finally get it right. He evaluated himself in every take and strived to do a better one next time. Sometimes putting a camera next to a student is better than me saying a million words!
16.01.2022 40 pieces challenged fulfilled! Good work Mr Kindy!
15.01.2022 Have a happy and safe Easter everyone! I am sure this Easter will be one to remember! I am going to watch a church service online. What is your plan?
13.01.2022 A lovely performance video of Miss Year 3 playing "Woodpacker" from Piano Safari book 3 taken about a month ago. I remembered on the day of lesson she had a few rhythmic errors in the piece. Mum told me she practiced at the piano straight away after they went home . Good work!
13.01.2022 Off the bench activity for a 5yo student - matching snowman game. The fun bit? I will time how long he takes to successfully match the snowmans and see if he beats himself!
12.01.2022 I came across a few parents asking me how to add date and time in the video recorded for video exam. I have just found an answer! You can installed a third party app called Timestamp (free) and use the app to record the video. The date and time stamp will be added automatically! Easy!
12.01.2022 Best boxing day presents! I recently enrolled 2 students into their and my first SCME, St Cecilia Music Examination , in the early December period. Both of them have achieved a higher distinction in their preliminary grade exam. Congratulations!!
11.01.2022 Love this! Does your household share the joy of music together?
11.01.2022 In the current situation, it seems online teaching is the only option available if schools are shut and there is a social lockdown. This article is a good read about online lessons. I am busy setting up my first online lesson lately. If you would like to do it please let me know.
11.01.2022 Love this! The elder sister (year 2) is teaching her younger siblings in practice. Cute
10.01.2022 For our piano teacher community.
09.01.2022 Rote teaching is fun. Playing from scores can yield some musical interest but it sometimes block the imagination of a child. Rote teaching then comes in handy. Student imitates the teacher with all his senses without worrying the notation. The results? A more musical outcome . Here Mr Year 1, after his 8th lesson, was filmed playing "Zebra on a Pogo Stick" from Piano Safari 1 by memory. I love how he played rhythmically and holding his firm fingertips. Well done!
09.01.2022 Congratulations to Mr year 1 and Miss year 3 for completing their third books in their piano journey! Both of them had online lessons for most of term 2 and 3. Thanks for the parents support they progress really well and sometimes beyond my expectations. Keep up the good work!!
09.01.2022 Miss year 3 loves doing revision! Every week she plays a selection of pieces she reviewed during the week (on top of the practice homework I assigned) and we played together. It is always a great time for music making. This is one of the pieces she always review, an English folk song called Bear Dream.
09.01.2022 With NSW premiers advice for kids to stay home, I will fully move to online lessons from Tuesday 24th March until the current health crisis ease. You certainly dont need a lot of professional set up to go online. Look at me, I dont even have an iPad holder. I just used a stack of books and it works perfectly as an overhead camera holder . It has been a positive experience teaching online lessons so far. Many students also have positive feedback. The best thing is, arent we glad to have music at times like this?
07.01.2022 I really miss playing duets with students! This one was taken in February. Mr Year 3 was playing "Stick and Hat" from Trinity initial.

07.01.2022 Dont forget to take this chance to do the AMEB online theory courses. They are free until 30 June. It is essential if you are going for AMEB Grade 6 practical or above. Follow this link: https://www.ameb.edu.au/online-theory-courses
07.01.2022 Mr year 9 was filmed playing his own boogie woogie composition (for school assessment) yesterday. I showed him how to do the boogie woogie bass and the jazz scale on C in one lesson. He worked out the right hand melody all by himself. He said he will finalize the ending this week. It works out quite well, isn't it? Great job!
07.01.2022 I grabbed these Coles stickies from my son's toy box. Looks like it is very useful to help the little ones locate the keys. Today miss 5yo used them to locate all the C and F before learning to play " Jungle Wedding " from MFPA book A. I gradually took the Fs away and then the rest each time she played. At the end she told me "I don't need them anymore. I know where they are!" She played it well! One very satisfied teacher here
06.01.2022 Congratulations to the students who took part in the Spring Recital last Sunday. Great job everyone!! Look forward to the next recital in May next year! Start preparing your next recital piece!
06.01.2022 With the health environment becoming more concerning, please remember to wash your hands before playing! Hand sanitizer will be offered in the studio prior to lesson. If you have visible dirt on your hands, you will be asked to wash your hands. Remember to keep a good hygiene both at home and outside! 06.01.2022 We are heading to autumn in the southern hemisphere but it doesnt stop us from loving this piece, Vivaldis Spring. Performed by miss year 4. Even it is a little slower than the original, it is still very pleasing!
05.01.2022 I always wonder why papa will buy a diamond ring for his daughter to go to sleep? Nevertheless this is a very beautiful lullaby and well done Miss Kindy

04.01.2022 And before playing the piano!

02.01.2022 Beethoven is one of my favourite composers. Here is a very interesting and absolutely child-friendly link about this man who inspired and influenced so many other composers. https://beethoven.pianoadventures.com/
02.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thank you for all the gift and heart warming messages. I am a blessed teacher. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the new year! Enjoy the time with your family and friends!
