23.01.2022 DAYS 151 & 152 (30/9/19 & 1/10/19) ROCKINGHAM We spent a night in Rockingham and drove out to Cape Peron and visited Penguin Island a 12.5 ha island off the coast which was a 5 minute ferry ride over shoalwater bay. The island is home to a colony of approx 1200 little penguins although we only saw 1 wild one and 9 in the discovery centre. We also met a very grumpy sea lion on the penguin island beach. While we were in Rockingham a lovely girl gave Ashley a quick ride on her pony in the ocean.
22.01.2022 DAYS 153 & 154 (2/10/19 & 3/10/19) BUSSELTON We drove through Bunbury and decided to settle for a couple of days just outside Busselton at a suburb called Vasse. We visited Busselton Jetty which is the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere at almost 2 kilometers in length. We decided not to catch the train to the end but instead walk out to see the underwater observatory which was an oasis for countless marine creatures and beautiful soft corals. We also visited the Wonky Windmill Farm and got to feed numerous farm animals. On our way out of Busselton we visited Naturaliste and Meelup Beach. Shame it was raining the day we visited because it was such a beautiful beach!
12.01.2022 DAYS 155 & 156 (4/10/19 & 5/10/19) MARGARET RIVER With over 300 wineries in the Margaret River region we settled on staying at one that offered accommodation (Jarvis Estate Winery). We tried to book a wine tour of the area and later found out was fully booked so instead we visited the Colonial Brewing Company and the cellar door at Jarvis Estate. Matt Jarvis our camp host told us that the Jarvis Family started their winemaking by purchasing the vacant block in 1997 and worked really hard to build up their business where they now have a cellar door which was completed in 2017 and they enjoy pouring their wines for visitors. While there the caravan lost power and turns out another battery destroyed. Trip to Repco and all fixed!!
12.01.2022 DAYS 154 (3/10/19) AUGUSTA We headed toward Augusta driving along Caves Rd and decided to have a drink stop at the Yallingup Hotel. Caves Road enters the Margaret River region so we drove past a lot of wineries . We were unsure where to stay but after visiting the Augusta visitor centre we stopped at a camp just outside of town called Boogaloo Camp. We had an overnight stay where unfortunately it poured with rain but in between drops we had a look around the property where they offer wooden surfboard shaping workshops, yoga and massage.
