25.01.2022 Pasi asks grower; "What is the best way to ripen strawberries that are 70/80/90 % ripe only?" Our Strawberry Grower's response; " Once picked the strawberries do not ripen. The colour on the outside might redden up but the inside will remain white/green. They are not like avo's, banana's or pineapples - hence why it is difficult exporting quality strawberries." Let's start with #1: They both have Samoan mother's. #2: They, at one very short stage, attended the same Primary school in Auckland. and #3: There is a Mexican connection. How about we match a mango customer (or friend) with a mango pensioner and have our mango customer sponsor a mango pensioner - x1 or 2 meals a week (for now)...depending if it is a couple...... The meal might cost $10-$13 (each) from a registered food establishment. And we (M.O.M team) can deliver the meal to the mango pensioner customer. (set area, set day) That way we are helping both the local food business AND the pensioner. The money will be paid straight to the food establishment - M.O.M just the deliverer's - no delivery charge, just giving back to people who have supported us, ...now its our turn to help our community. 21.01.2022 We are open in the weekends on Maud st, again Guys Customers we’re very happy to see us open again in the weekends. We will be back tomorrow, (Sunday) with more Fresh stock from Darwin. They are now picking in North Queensland, which means we will get Queensland fruit very soon Pasi will continue to attend Yandina market on Saturday’s and Fishermans Road Market on Sunday’s for those who enjoy strolling through the markets whilst Russel will be at Maud st in the weekends for those who can’t get to the markets. 21.01.2022 Everyone has their own special way to enjoy their avocado on toast. Customers tell me they eat avocado on toast with vegemite or avocado, vegemite and cheese . I had to give it a go. I tried both and its a no thank you, from Me. Although the avocado, vegemite with cheese was palatable, just. I had to go back to what I was comfortable with, enjoyed most: Pure, Simple, smashed Avocado on warm, toasted, slightly crunchy, sour bread. OMG, With a touch of salt and pepper... Ou La La.. 18.01.2022 The mango season is over for Pasi and myself, but will always hold fond memories. we will miss you. for the young guy who was tampered with as a kid with a definite spring in his step - who confides in Pasi and shouts to us as he rushes off to work, " I LOVE YOU GUYS!"... we will miss you to Eyvonne, who is now 96 years old...slowly losing her memory and is driven around by her daughter - and lhow lovely she looks in her floral church best... ...a gentle soul and soft smile - ALWAYS seems to remind her daughter to get her mangoes we will miss you And then there is David who is constantly looking around in case I jump out of the bushes to scare him AGAIN.... ...and Carmel who on her last visit to our stall says that coming to our stall is a real blessing and that she will never forget us... we will miss you ...not to forget the elderly woman who often passes my stall and takes a seat in my chair requesting a cold glass of water to quench her thirst as she continues her walk....(a free mango in tow of course) we will miss you At times we forget that we are selling mangoes - and that we are sometimes a safe haven for people to share experiences... ... to vent, ...to offer opportunities, ...to enjoy Pasi hugs ...to share wisdom and insight with us ---to cry, laugh and joke around. ....to smile and make kids happy when they visit we will miss you But most of all, YOU. 16.01.2022 Our daughter and son in law run national mango smoothie pop-ups around New Zealand. This is a photo of our grandson (11 years old) in his own money making mango smoothie cart his dad lets him use to make money. Here he is operating his cart for Waitangi Day in NZ.... And yes. Mango Mania runs deep in our family....LOL In saying that, Mango Mania at Mangoes On Maud is coming to an end. Boooooo Whoooooo!!!! I hear ya crying. Me too. Always a sad time for us. Hey there my cheeky wee Enchilada I'll tell you why I called you that soon...... ...but have you noticed how with each new piece of technology, we seem to get things done a lot faster and a lot more efficiently too these days? Everyone seems to be looking for faster AND better. And I think sometimes we should kinda slow it down a bit and smell the mangoes... ....ooops, sorry. I mean smell the roses and flower's. But aside from technology being useful in many ways, there are methods that we can use to speed up things without the use of something that's digital right Many people call these method's - "hacks". As in life hacks. Or even cooking hacks. Hacks or methods that get things done faster to reach a result faster. How about this hack. You have a hard, unripened, green avocado. Now. How in the HECK are you meant to have a Mexican night with Tequila, (Margarita's) enchilada's, corn chips and guacamole with a hard avocado? Huh. Huh. Huh....just tell me that please! Well, here is the avocado 'get ripe in 20 min' hack for you. This is what you do. Wrap that hard green lil sucker in tin/aluminium foil, put it in the oven on 200 degree's for 20 minutes.....AND ..........HOLY GUACAMOLEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Batman. Mexican night is ON like DONKEY Kong baby!! (as I'm singing....that famous Tequila song.....na na na na nana.....TEQUILA!!!!!) But URGH! Avocado's and limes are too expensive. 04.01.2022 I had a surge of energy this afternoon and felt the urge to bake Avocado Brownies My first batch using avocado and plain flour, cocoa, sugar, milk (hmm, nothing to write home about).. Then, I found another recipe using almond flour and eggs, etc.. Boom! Rich and decadent! Top with melted chocolate and nuts of your choice and you have A Winner Baby How else have you used your avocados?
