24.01.2022 The Society have again been blessed with another vehicle from a long-time bus operator from the north of the island. Manions' Coaches have generously donated th...is luxurious K112 Scania to the Society for preservation. Featuring air-conditioning, seat-belted recliners, huge luggage area, powerful 370hp motor & TV-DVD, this lovely example of 1980s craftsmanship will complement our increasing fleet of historic and classic vehicles from yesteryear, that we display across the state throughout the year (when we can again) :) Manions Coaches have been involved in the industry for well over 60yrs and the Society are proud to be chosen to preserve a piece of their long history as another Tasmanian bus industry stalwart, joins the ranks of preservation with the TBCS. The coach also has history with another historic national operator years ago, when it operated for Pioneer Express (photo courtesy Peter Kane) See more

20.01.2022 Number 3 finally on the road today, next week number 4 and finally a full fleet of DDA/wheelchair friendly buses on the General Access services and a full 12 months before they are required.
20.01.2022 This is shared from another Facebook post and does not include everything that a driver has to do in their occupation and with the COVID19 upon us they have even more responsibilities. Just to know they are appreciated, accepted and thought as being professional is what they need. Thank you to all drivers Here’s how unskilled bus drivers are: Over 30 different safety checks have to be carried out by the driver to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before it enters service. ... The driver then has to drive for anything up to 5.5 hours in busy traffic, manoeuvring a 10 meter vehicle with multiple blinds spots, whilst watching out for other drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and stray animals, before getting a short break and then getting back on the road again. She or he has to do this whilst making sure their passengers are safe and comfortable; looking out for intending passengers; being aware of passengers wishing to alight-who may not always use the bell; observing the speed limit; running according to the timetable and operating the ticket machine to give the correct fares. They have to learn dozens of routes, often after driving them only once. Drivers have to be able to accommodate all passengers, regardless of their individual needs, and help those who may require assistance due to age or disability. They also have to know how to assist them if they are vulnerable or in an emergency. They have to be able to deal with passenger enquires, sometimes from people for whom English is not their first language, correctly and courteously, as well as those who may be intoxicated or abusive or even violent. They have to attend regular training sessions and are expected to be familiar with and understand the various Road Traffic laws, driver regulations, and company procedures. And do it all with a smile on their faces.

09.01.2022 Below is the travel by bus information from the COVID19 web site. Please take notice as the vehicles start to have more passengers on them from 25th May. We ask that if you are not from the same household to social distance anytime it is possible on all buses and please leave the seat behind all drivers passenger free. Travel on public transport is exempt from restrictions on gatherings, so there can be more than 10 people using a form of public transport. Passengers are enco...uraged to keep physically distancing in mind and choose a seat away from others where possible. Using buses Anyone feeling unwell should avoid using public transport. For short trips, consider walking or cycling. Travel outside peak periods where possible. While waiting at bus stops, practice social distancing. Adults seeking to board a bus which has a high number of passengers are asked to consider waiting for the next service where available. This request does not apply to children. Practice good hand hygiene. If possible use hand sanitiser before and after catching the bus. Spread out on board as much as you can. Members of the same household and family groups can sit together. Avoid touching surfaces inside the bus whenever you can. Please comply with any requests from your bus driver. Contactless bus travel and fare amnesty To minimise person-to-person contact, public bus services across the state are currently provided free of charge. This includes general access and fare-charging school buses. A fare amnesty has been put in place until 31 May 2020 to allow all passengers time to adopt alternative payment options where available. Passengers without a smartcard should apply for one from their bus operator where available during this period and make arrangements to top up the credit on their card by electronic means. Students travelling on fare paying school buses should arrange to purchase 10-trip tickets to minimise the number of transactions where a non-cash option is not available. School bus arrangements for Term 2 School bus services to Government, Catholic and Independent schools are operating where the school is open to students. The continued operation of school bus services is being regularly reviewed based on Public Health advice and updates. The number of students using school buses will increase from 25 May as primary school and colleges resume on site learning. The Department of State Growth will monitor school bus demand and consider whether any changes to bus services are needed. Advice on school bus cleaning has been circulated to all contracted school bus operators in the state with new requirements for more regular cleaning of bus interiors.

02.01.2022 A 17 year old Gagebrook youth was critically injured and five others received non life threatening injuries in a multiple vehicle crash on the Bass Highway near... Westbury last night. A blue 2002 Holden Commodore utility containing two 17 year old males from Hobart heading eastbound is believed to have been traveling on the incorrect side of a straight section of road when it collided initially with a Toyota Land Cruiser wagon containing a family of six (including four children aged under 12) from Caveside. The ute then struck the side of an empty semi-trailer fuel tanker traveling west before spearing head-on into a Mazda CX-5 being driven west by a 35 year old Deloraine woman accompanied by her 12 year old son. The final impact with the Mazda resulted in the passenger of the utility being thrown from the vehicle. This 17 year old male sustained critical injuries and after being conveyed to the Launceston General Hospital was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital for surgery. The driver of the ute was conveyed to the Launceston General Hospital with less serious injuries along with the driver of the Mazda who was suffering abdominal pain. All children escaped injury along with the truck driver. Initial investigations suggest the passenger of the utility was not wearing a seatbelt. The highway was closed for a period of nearly six hours whilst emergency services were in attendance at the scene including the Crash investigation, Forensics, the Tasmania Fire Service and the State Emergency Service. Police will return to the scene about 3pm today to continue their investigation in relation to the crash and the highway will be closed for approximately 30 minutes. Traffic diversions will be put in place at the following locations; - On the eastern approach - Oaks Rd - On the western side at Meander Valley Road Motorists are asked to avoid the area. Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dash cam footage to call Northern Crash Investigation Services on 131444.
