20.01.2022 True to it's colours, on the final day of Albany Tour, the windy, raining, overcast Albany that we all know and love returned! Students endured the somewhat miserable conditions to experience a presentation by local Menang elder Vernice Gilles (on behalf of Kurrah Mia Indigenous Tours) at the Oyster Harbour Fish Traps. Vernice explained the historical significance of the fish traps, and showed students some examples of the ways in which the Menang people worked with their boo...dja (land) to look after and survive on it. Students even sampled some Samphire, with mixed reviews! A quick stop at The Sandalwood Shop to learn about the history of Sandalwood production in Australia was quite surprising (who knew that once upon a time Sandalwood accounted for 45% of Australia's export revenue!?) and students were able to experience the calming properties of Sandalwood oil. The Mt Barker Bakery was our final stop for lunch before heading home to Manjimup. See more

Students have the Police, Ambos, Alcohol Awareness, Dr Davies as well as staff from both the hospital and school presenting about alcohol, driving and drug awareness. The local police are always a highlight. Pictured is a brave student Darcy who learned how lovely the silver bracelets look! Also a special thank you to Manjimup Imperials who donated their facilities to allow us to continue to run the program with no cost to our students.

14.01.2022 Another glorious sunny day provided our Albany Tour students the opportunity to make the most of their experiences at the National Anzac Centre, Albany Port Authority, Vancouver Art Centre and Middleton Beach on Tuesday. Students explored the NAC and surrounding Albany Heritage Park, using the opportunity to reflect on the purpose and value of commemoration. Our tour of the Albany Port facility provided students with an insight into the interdependence of WA's economy with th...e rest of the world, and learn about the process of importing and exporting products in an interconnected world. A quick break at Emu Point for lunch was followed by an afternoon at the VAC where artist Pia Sweeting led students through the creation of clay tiles, ornaments, coasters and pendants. Students also had the opportunity to view the refurbished Albany Town Hall's first exhibition. The bust day was capped of with a run around Middleton Beach on a scavenger hunt and fish and chips. 03.01.2022 After a few students enjoyed an early morning walk along the squeaky white sand of Vancouver Beach (a 5 minute walk from our dorms), our first full day of the Albany Tour started with a visit to the Historic Whaling Station. Former whaler Stuart provided students with a fantastic insight into life on the Cheynes III. Some mapping skills at the Gap and Albany Windfarm filled the rest of the morning. After lunch, students participated in rogaining, with the evening filled with pizza at Due South for dinner and a tour of the Albany Convict Gaol and Museum. Our tour guide Joy's extensive knowledge of Albany was very impressive!
