24.01.2022 Shoe Organisation. It’s a topic unto itself. And whilst you may be fooled into believing it’s no big deal, you may in fact be surprised. Whether you’re a seasoned fashionista or shoe aficionado, the means in which your footwear is stored will have a dramatic impact on the health and longevity of your shoes.... As always, @manlycobblers love to educate, so we have created this little series for your reading pleasure. Now, pen and paper ready. Stay tuned for the lessons.

22.01.2022 They often say in business not to hide behind the brand. It’s been a while since we showed our faces on the feed. So for the new followers and the @manlycobblers faithful, we thought timely to introduce (and re-introduce) ourselves. Nick & Carmen aka Mr & Mrs Cobbler. ... Nick (The Cobbler), qualified shoemaker by trade and experienced in this dying art for some 29 years. You will find Nick in the workshop or serving the Manly locals storefront with his ever friendly smile. Nick takes his craft seriously and takes pride in his workmanship. Carmen (Mrs Cobbler) looks after all things business. The ‘storyteller’ of the brand and the messenger behind the social media platforms. Curating and spreading the word of old rituals and the principles behind the Cobbler trade is one very busy but so rewarding role. You may even spot her whizzing around the Beaches in the Cobbler car on deliveries. Collectively, we’re proud to fly the small business banner and championing the esteemed group of skilled tradespeople. In a landscape of ever growing monopolies, we’re on a mission to sing the virtues of old trades, rituals and bringing back old fashioned local service. Nice to meet (and re-meet you) #smallbusiness #teamwork

21.01.2022 Some weekend sketching and painting by our mini Cobbler keeping with the business theme. Seems Nick is not the only talented one in the family

20.01.2022 SHOE ORGANISED PART 4: IN FORM A crucial part of keeping footwear in shape, quite literally is the simple (but so important) shoe and boot trees. Keeping your heels well ventilated is not always enough, dependent on the shoe or boot type. Trees keep shoes in their optimal shape and ensures their longevity. Hence, an important role to play in your shoe closet. ... Natural is always best here. Shoe and Boot Trees made of a durable, cedar material complement your footwear.

18.01.2022 SHOE ORGABISED PART 3: WANDERLUST Sure, international travel is well off the itinerary presently. Yet, there is plenty to see in our own backyard. As such, travel is travel. ... Therefore, shoe storage whilst traveling is even more important than whilst at home. Are you one to throw it all in a weekend bag and hit the road? It may not be the answer you’re looking for, but things need to change. Whilst packing clothing and footwear, it is advisable to invest in some good shoe bags of natural fibres to protect both the footwear and clothing. Cotton is always a good choice, however as always the trusty Cobbler can advise.

17.01.2022 It’s the unique, one of a kind jobs that makes our work so rewarding No two days are the same here. The hands of our artisan Cobbler hand stitching leather pockets for a billiard table (which we might add that the actual wooden table was being crafted by a high school student!) Love our clients and their stories...and the part we play... #handmade

17.01.2022 It goes without saying R.M.Williams is one of our favourite brands. There have been many pairs of the iconic boots walk through the doors for some Cobbler care. We're thrilled to hear the news that the brand will now return to 100% Australian ownership. https://www.businessinsider.com.au/andrew-forrest-rm-willia

For us mere mortals, the storage of one’s shoe collections is actually more important that you would first think. It’s not all about the aesthetics. For us, we know what can make or break your shoes so to speak, and the method in which footwear is stored can have a ...dramatic effect on the longevity of the items. Stay tuned as we provide some tips over the coming days. We’ll let you swoon over this closet in the meantime. credit The Home Edit

07.01.2022 Here at Cobbler HQ, we have observed a change in the landscape of self care, think of it as somewhat of a Grooming Revolution. Whilst this is evident in the stampede of new grooming suppliers in the market, we like to focus on the practice of grooming itself. None more applicable than in the age old practice of a traditional shoe shine. The art of the shine is one skill definitely worth mastering. And has us all nostalgic about times of refined grooming practices. No better time to shine than the festive season

06.01.2022 SHOE ORGANISED PART 2: DELICATE MATERIALS No, we’re not talking social distancing here. Simply put. There are some materials not meant for each other. Let us explain. ... When storing patent leather items, always ensure that items are not touching. Keeping their distance, will avoid the colour transferring through the patent, which can occur when touching other shoes, boots and bags. Even footwear and leather bags need their own personal space. And whilst on the subject of delicate materials, this dialogue cannot omit suede and nubuck which require a different set of care all to themselves. Think waterproofing. More on this later in the series.

06.01.2022 "The Art of the Shine. Made with genuine horse’s hair, we have the finest products in store for all your shine needs. But it’s not always about the product. Knowing how to shine, the correct products and the proper technique is quite an art. Something we’re here to help with. ... That’s the small business difference. Having a qualified, skilled tradesperson in store to pass on the knowledge is key See more

04.01.2022 SHOE ORGANISED PART 6: CLOSET ESSENTIALS Pantries have their staple ingredients. Good shoe closets have their care essentials. Even if you do outsource your shine to a trusted Cobbler, setting up an Essentials Station not only makes your grooming life effortless, but also helps maintain your footwear in optimal health.... Let us elaborate ESSENTIAL NO. 1: SHOE HORN The humbled shoe horn. Often mistaken for a mere convenience but in fact actually protects footwear from damage. By using a shoe horn, it avoids unnecessary and potential damage and breakage to shoe and boot heels. ESSENTIAL NO 2:WATERPROOFER Having this go-to product on hand is a must. And don’t be fooled into thinking waterproofing is only for suede. It’s just as important to waterproof run of the mill leather footwear. One other common mistake is to waterproof once and forget about it. Like any other kind of maintenance, regular upkeep is imperative and ensure to waterproof from time to time. ESSENTIAL NO 3: MOISTURISE THAT SKIN No it’s not another tagline for a miracle anti ageing promotion. But we do know the secret to any supple looking skin is to moisturise. Footwear is no different. Keep a good conditioner on hand and your footwear will be as good as new. Always! Well, that's a wrap folks! Last part of the series today. We hope you have enjoyed the Shoe Organised Series by @manlycobblers and are now the wiser and confident to organise those shoe closets.

02.01.2022 Whether you’re one who’s embracing the festive season (guilty) or want to go back into denial that year’s end is upon us so soon...believe it or not Christmas is only 35 days away Have you thought about gifting yet? As always, we’re strong advocates of thoughtful gifting for function above all else. We’re not into the buy for the sake of it type gifts. We believe in gifts that really are useful. ... Just curating some Christmas gift collections right here

01.01.2022 SHOE ORGANISED PART 5: THE STATION With sustainability at the forefront of everyone’s minds, we have noticed a shift in customers’ attitudes about shoe care. With that, many people are genuinely keen to educate themselves on the proper care. For us, we’re all about making things last. That’s who we are and what we believe. In the words of Vivienne Westwood Buy less, choose well, make it last.... In order to make that happen, it’s timely to give some thought to setting up a Shoe Shine Station at home. Nothing OTT. Simple, durable, quality products (curated by us!) with only the best ingredients to make it last. Shoe care plays a big role in fitting out the shoe closet organisation.

01.01.2022 SHOE ORGANISED PART 1: STORAGE Let’s be real. We don’t all have enviable shoe closets likened to the scale of Hollywood’s A list. For us mere mortals, how we store our footwear is actually more important when space is an issue. Think winter, damp conditions, lack of breathing space between items? Your footwear will become as ill as any creature living in such conditions. If items are not well ventilated, mould can grow and well, need we say more?... Ventilation is paramount here. Which leads us to our next point. Closed shoe boxes an absolute NO GO zone in the Cobbler book. So what to do when space is minimal? Look for spaces in the home where you can store footwear, that may even mean different parts of the house. Garage, under stairs, spare room. Let those babies breathe. (PS. Cobbler’s biggest storage tip: never store Damp Rid near your leather items).
