24.01.2022 Douglas scores on fulltime for the Marlins to take the chocolates 43-39 over @southsrugbyclub

23.01.2022 Marlins Represent Grand Final day last Saturday saw the announcement of a number of prestigious awards with Max Douglas runner up in the Ken Catchpole Medal Award (Player of the Year). 3rd was Rat, Ben Marr, son of former Marlin player and coach Greg Marr. Both Ben and Max are past students of Brookvale rugby nursery, St Augustine’s College. Max was also named Rookie of the Year! Max’s outstanding season was recognised this week in his selection for the Australian A team to ...play Argentina at Leichardt Oval on Sat 7th Nov. In other representative news, Manly’s Sio Tatola was rewarded for a stellar season by winning a training contract for the upcoming pre season with the Waratahs. With the departure of Tom Robertson a prop spot has opened up and early mail is that Sio is working hard and in with a big chance to win the spot and a contract for 2021. The club also warmly welcomes back Dave Porecki from professional rugby in the UK. Dave is contracted to the Waratahs and, along with Max, represents Australia A this afternoon. We wish them all the best.

21.01.2022 Team of the week! Congratulations to Jordan Leventis! Hell of a performance. 2 tries and his last to seal the victory for 4th Grade. Jordan a key playmaker for the lower grades this year and has all the talent to take it further in future years at the club!

19.01.2022 TEAM LISTS! Have a swipe to an illustrious 4th grade line up. A former wallaby straps up, famous for his you blokes and stamping his feet aggressively and quickly. Our northern beaches famous PT comes out of retirement for 5th time in 5 years to play hooker. Guess who?

19.01.2022 It is with deep sadness the Manly Marlins Rugby Club announces the passing of our ever popular Wallaby and member of the 1983 Marlins Premiership side, Ollie Hall after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ollie was born in Wellington, NSW in 1953. His representative rugby career started back in 1973 where he played for Country and NSW Under 23's and then graduated to Country Seconds and Firsts from 1974-78. After a rugby sabbatical, Ollie joined the Manly Marlins in 1982 at the ...age of 30. In his first season with the club he won the most prestigious Chad Paton award. Over the next four seasons he played a total of 56 games in the front row, of which 52 were in first grade. During 1983, not only was he part of the premiership winning side against Randwick, he also won selection for Sydney, NSW and the Wallabies for their end of season tour to France and Italy. Unfortunately during 1984 his representative rugby career ended with two serious knee injuries and he missed selection for the famous Alan Jones' coached Wallabies on their Grand Slam tour to Great Britain and Ireland. After missing the season in 1985, Ollie gained moderate fame for landing acting roles besides Tina Turner in the movie 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome' and playing Tiny in the TV mini series 'Fields Of Fire'. His last season with the Marlins was in 1986 and shortly after headed back to country where it all began. The last two decades of his life were spent back in the upper Hunter mining, farming and also coaching junior rugby in Scone for some six seasons. Ollie is survived by his wife Myff and children Laura, Tim, Ashton, Chester and Charlton. From everyone at the Manly Marlins Rugby Club our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time. Funeral details to follow.

18.01.2022 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT! Picture this: 2nd Grade down by 6. Coming off a tough loss to Eastwood. The ball finds its way in to Ben Crerar’s () hands (thank goodness) and it’s that signature stiff arm the community have come to know and love. Waving goodbye to the Easts defender as he strolls in and grounds the ball. ... Guess who steps up to take the kick? That’s right. Brenden (BJ) Hartmann. Who else would you give this moment to? Nobody. Closes his eye and shows all his experience to throw it over from a difficult kicking position in any kickers books. Bj cups his ears to a sheepish Easts 2nd Grade (and so he should) as the team comes to celebrate. Keep an eye out for Marlins faithful Doctor Frank who shows great pace to beat a couple of players in to celebrate. Everything you love to see from a determined Marlins team on a Saturday afternoon. 2nd grade faces 1st place Randwick this weekend sitting in 2nd place and you best believe the boys are up for it.

17.01.2022 A huge congratulations to two of Manly Rugby’s greatest contributors & newest life members Judy Cox & Adam Hill! Judy, the Marlins No 1 supporter has been watching the Marlins since 1948 and can count the games she’s missed on one hand! She was married to former Manly half back and Wallaby, the late Brian Cox and she brought two Manly Wallabies into the world Phillip and Mitchell! She’s an absolute icon at the Marlins! Adam Hill was a former Colt and Grade player who has cont...ributed enormously to the club in many respects. He has been a coach, an administrator and a real driving force in revitalising the clubs match day experience the last few years! From working the BBQ, to match day posters, footy cards and Marlin Army t shirts - it’s been these little things that have had such a BIG impact across the club. We couldn’t think of two more deserving life members this year! Well done Judy & Adam pictured here with Club President Cam Douglas at the clubs AGM last night! See more

17.01.2022 DEBUT! Congratulations to Harry Haywood. Who makes his debut tomorrow, a product of Manly Colts. Harry suffered an injury to his ankle earlier in the year and has worked hard back to earn his spot. A great asset to the club at only 21 a huge future to come!

16.01.2022 TEAM OF THE WEEK! Congrats to Josh Mafi taking out player of the day in a 2 try performance in 3s! Famous for his pre game Tim-Tams, congrats Maf

16.01.2022 He's the iron-fisted, red-bearded, pink shorts wearing legend of Manly Rugby. 'Rusty.' If you've played with, against, or even just watched the Marlins at any stage across the last four decades, you know who I'm talking about.... Unfortunately, 2020 hasn't been kind to the club favourite. Diagnosed with lung cancer earlier in the year, 'Rusty' decided to get some exercise in ahead of surgery. He found himself walking Collaroy beach in the middle of a huge East coast swell and ended up getting pounded into the exposed rocks. A local lifeguard saw it unfold and pleaded with him to get an ambulance to the emergency room. 'Rusty' waved it off, said, 'I'm sweet,' and walked a kilometre home to his horrified partner Pip. Turns out he'd broken four ribs, fractured his wrist and needed a bunch of stitches to tidy up his shredded body. They don't come much tougher than Russell Mackie. Longtime local scribe Adam Lucius tells the story of a morning at the Oval when 'Rusty' was linesman for a fifth grade game. The Marlins copped a few injuries up front so he switched out his assistant ref shirt for a Manly jersey and demanded to play hooker...at the age of 71. Others have tried...and failed to stop him taking to the field with 'Rusty' always demanding it be 'no holds barred against me.' The 378 game veteran hasn't gained iconic status just on the field though, he's had a crack at everything around the joint. For a long while he was the self-appointed club physio...despite not having a single recognised qualification. We once had a new recruit join us out of Super Rugby who was returning from a hamstring injury. I asked him how he was travelling during the warm up following a rub down from 'Rusty.' He replied with a pained expression. 'He's taken all the skin off my leg with his sandpaper hands and replaced it with Deep Heat. I can't feel my hammy, I only feel burning.' There was also his brief foray into strapping. Guys would get their ankles taped, but have all blood circulation to their toes completely cut as a result. When questioned if this was the approved approach, 'Rusty' would tell them he'd been doing it that way for years so it must be right. A traditionalist in every sense. Now, it looks like the Marlins Life Member will need a little strapping and physio of his own as he tackles more surgery. The cancer has spread to 'Rusty's' femur and another operation is required. It took some convincing for him to let me write this post, but now we're here, it'd be great to see you leave him some love via the comments. The next round isn't gonna be easy, but with your encouragement and 'Rusty's' lion heart, there's no reason to think he can't still be playing 5th grade well into his nineties. Words by Sean Maloney.

12.01.2022 DEBUT! Jack ‘Socks’ Young makes his debut today. A proud Newcastle man, Socks has come through the Colts system at Manly. He has worked his was back from 2 Shoulder Reconstructions to earn his spot in the top team. Well done Socksy. Everyone is in your corner!

04.01.2022 Manly Rugby and Manly SLSC have sadly lost a true champion Paul Burke. He recently passed away after a long battle with cancer, and is survived by his 3 children Mark, Nicole and Steven. Paul played 42 grade games over 4 years from 1965 - 1970 with 32 1st grade games, he scored a total of 13 tries with 9 of them in 1st grade. Paul was also a multiple Australian Champion in surf life saving beach events (beach sprint and relay), and twice represented Australia for the SLSA... in international competition. He was a Manly Council lifeguard, saving countless lives over many years. His motto Look after the people, and the medals will look after themselves. That motto is such a simple statement, but shows how deeply Paul thought in his quest to help others be their best. Enormously strong, fast and highly intelligent with a heart of gold. A rare combination and a unique human. Paul was a true and totally loyal friend and mentor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. See more
