25.01.2022 Hey Legends, We're coming alongside Lifeline Northern Beaches to assist them in all their amazing work targeting suicide prevention and mental illness support. We are fundraising and participating in the Lifeline Classic Surf Competition 2020 to create waves of awareness, action, and prevention. Our team is called 'Salt and Light Legends', and we want to show people that they're not alone in dark seasons of life, and we can help have an impact to work towards our community be...ing safe from suicide. Suicide is having a sobering impact on the Northern Beaches. Every year, Lifeline’s call centre receives thousands of calls from people facing all kinds of issues: domestic violence, grief, depression, abuse. Their volunteers offer all the support they possibly can but in 2018 alone, there were still 30 suicides a year in our immediate community. That’s more than one suicide every fortnight. Their suicide and crisis prevention hotline is running 24/7 and each call costs $27.96, they receive about 68,000 calls per year, that's $1,901,280 alone. Lifeline are constantly working so hard to keep many other initiatives open such as counselling, support groups, training workshops, all to extend hope and help when people really need it.
