16.01.2022 Focus on Sustainability : 5 Tips for Oiling Outdoor Equipment Yes, I know it's a messy job! But it's really the only way to make sure your beautiful outdoor furniture and equipment will last ... here are some tips to get you started: 1. Inspection time. Is my wooden outdoor furniture looking "dry" or has it's colour changed to grey? Time for some oil !... 2. If your furniture is just dry, you can use a regular clear or natural decking oil readily available from your local hardware store. Just follow the instruction on the oil. 3. If your furniture has turned grey, you might want to give it a little more TLC by using an oil that has a colour tint. The oil will nourish the timber and the tint will make it look better (and also offers UV inhibitors in most cases). Again, these are available at your local hardware store and you should follow the instructions on the can. 4. Try not to oil your wooden furniture and equipment on very hot or windy days. The oil can sometimes "skin off" before you get the chance to wipe off the excess oil. This can leave a tacky residue behind that is really unpleasant. 5. Be sure not to skimp on the application of the oil ... let it really soak in (using a drop sheet under your furniture will save your concrete from those ugly oil patches if it happens to be on a verandah or other hard surface) ... wipe off the excess ... and please be sure to wash out your oiling rag with soap or detergent ! Never scrunch up an oiling rag for use later - they have been known to self-combust !! Well, have fun outside ! If your wooden furniture and equipment is beyond help ... take a look at our Outback Hardwood range.
