22.01.2022 If you are walking or driving past the MVHS Museum in Wingham at night, take a look at the Remembrance Day window display which has been enhanced by lights. Couldn't capture it with a photo but we'll worth a look. Another creative display by Terry.

13.01.2022 Come and see this fully restored buggy which is the museum's latest acquisition. The provenance is not yet fully authenticated as we are still waiting for the documentation but is attributed to originally belonging to Dr Kelly who started practising in the Wingham area in the early 1900s. As well as his professional duties, Dr Kelly was very active in our local community, a founder member of the Wingham Golf club, involved with the local cricket, tennis, jockey clubs as well as the Upper Manning A& H Assoc & the School of Arts. He was much loved by the people of Wingham. He had left the area prior to his death & died in RPAH,1927. He requested to be brought back to be buried at Wingham. His grave is in the Catholic section of the Wingham Cemetery. A memorial fountain in the Wingham Central Park was erected in his honour.

12.01.2022 These Honour Rolls are displayed in the Museum and are 2 more examples of Mrs Elizabeth Hawkins carving work. Her story was in a previous post. Her maiden name was Walmsley. She had no children but may have decendants from nieces & nephews so if there is any one with further information please contact MVHS archives. [email protected]

09.01.2022 Pictured is the Honour (Honor) Board, carved by Elizabeth Hawkins, which has pride of place in the foyer of St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Wingham. Mrs Hawkins presented the board to the Church in 1918, to represent soldiers enlisting from the parish. The story of Mrs Hawkins unfolded a few months ago when MVHS was contacted by a retired history lecturer from New England University. He was researching war memorials in Northern NSW for The NSW War Memorial register conducted... by the Mitchel Library. He had previously visited our museum but was unable to return & was requesting photos of the foundation stones of Wingham War Memorial Hospital, an Upper Manning Church Honour Roll at St Andrews Presbyterian Church & the Cenotaph Memorial Wall at the Town Hall. Through further correspondence it was brought to our attention that we had 2 more Honour Boards carved by Elizabeth Hawkins on display in our museum. We have been amazed at the quality of her work & thrilled to be able to have provenance provided for these Honour Boards. The Honour Boards in MVHS Museum .. The first was presented to the MUIOOF Lodge, 1920, & inscribed with the names of members who had served overseas or who had been in camp when Armistice was declared. The other board was given to the Soldiers Aid Association meeting in the School of Arts, 1917 and was for soldiers who had gone to war from the Municipality. Details on Mrs Elizabeth M Hawkins nee Wamsley.... Born at Gosford 1866. Her parents were Edward & Alice Wamsley. She married William H Hawkins in 1887 at Brisbane Waters. After a sojourn in New Zealand, Elizabeth & William came to Wingham, approx 1908. William was employed as a bush worker, sleeper cutter & in later years worked at the Wingham Butter Factory. Elizabeth was involved in community work. If any Hawkins or Wamsley Families can provide any further information on this talented lady we would be very grateful.
