21.01.2022 Policing our Community Yesterday our Commander, Superintendent Chris Schilt and A/Inspector Steve Kendal made a surprise visit to St Josephs Primary School in Taree. The visit is part of our whole Police District Youth Engagement Strategy, and these visits are a part of building relationships with the Young People in our Community, relationships we hope will extend into their adulthood. Police in our District have been asked to 'adopt' a school and where time allows, engage ...with the schools and their students. These engagements are in addition to our normal response in schools by our School Liaison Officer and Youth Liaison Officer. Hopefully your children have and will be reporting positive interactions with us at their school. I can say that we did seek permission from the school to publish this photo, however neglected to mention to the Commander we had a copy of this picture of him in action.

17.01.2022 Our farmers are under siege. Already severely affected by adverse weather conditions and drought, rural crime is having a significant and direct effect on the e...conomic welfare of farmers and their families. To make a real difference, we need a whole of community approach. There are some preventative measures that can be undertaken such as installing cameras, ensuring gates are locked and in the case of firearm theft, ensuring guns are locked and ammunition kept separate to any firearms. It is also important to report crime as soon as it occurs, whether you are the victim, or you have witnessed a crime. A call to Crime Stoppers or the Police at the earliest opportunity increases the chances of recovering stolen livestock or firearms and catching the people committing these terrible crimes. If you think you have information about someone in your community who has committed a crime call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 for a confidential conversation, or report securely online at www.crimestoppers.com.au.

14.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly.... Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. 07.01.2022 MANNING GREAT LAKES POLICE DISTRICT RESIDENTS URGED TO CELEBRATE NEW YEAR EVE FROM HOME The NSW Police Force is encouraging the Manning Great Lakes community to stay local this New Year’s Eve and enjoy celebrations from home. A high-visibility policing operation will be in place on Thursday (31 December 2020) and Friday (1 January 2021), to ensure the safety of the community.... Locally, it will involve general duties police from the Manning Great Lakes Police District, as well as the Port Stephens Water Police. Manning Great Lakes Police District Commander, Superintendent Chris SCHILT, said police will be out and about across the community focusing on public safety, alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour. Although this year’s celebrations look very different to previous events, we still want everyone to see out 2020 safely and have a memorable start to 2021, Supt SCHILT said. We are urging residents to stay local and celebrate at home this year, ensuring the Public Health Order guidelines for gatherings are followed. For those who do go out and about, expect to see plenty of police officers. We have zero tolerance for dangerous, criminal or anti-social behaviour, so anyone caught putting other people’s lives at risk, or spoiling the fun for others, will be dealt with swiftly. Our best advice is to plan ahead how you are getting to and from your selected celebrations whether it be public transport, pre-arranged transport or organising a designated driver, Supt SCHILT said. For more information on the Public Health Orders for gatherings, please visit: https://www.nsw.gov.au//what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rul

06.01.2022 SCAM ALERT! We’ve had several reports of scammers calling people from what appear to be trusted NSW Police Force numbers and threatening the call recipients wit...h fines or arrest. These scammers are using technology to make it appear that the calls originate from legitimate police phone numbers; a practice known as ID spoofing. The caller impersonates a NSW Police Force officer and states that the person receiving the call has an outstanding fine or warrant. The scammer demands a form of payment to prevent arrest or further court action. The NSW Police Force will never call a member of the public and demand payment over the phone in order to avoid going to court or being arrested. If you get an unexpected call from someone who states they're from the police, and starts asking for personal details or threatens you, please hang up. If you’re concerned, you can always verify by contacting your local police or the Police Assistance Line directly on 131 444. To find out more information about scams, or to find out other ways to protect yourself, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au. If you have been the victim of a scam, you can report it to local police or to the ACCC online at the ‘SCAMwatch report a scam’ page.

03.01.2022 Summer is a popular time for going on holidays, and we are reminding people to take some time to assess their home security before they head away. Most of the recommended precautions are very simple, particularly just checking to make sure doors and windows are locked and secured an unlocked window in an empty home, full of valuables, is an opportunistic thief’s dream. We also recommend limiting what you post on social media about your holiday, especially if your home will ...be unattended for an extended period. It’s relatively inexpensive to put a good lock on your letterbox and ask someone you trust to empty it regularly or organise to have your mail held at your local post office while your'e away. The NSW Police Force has a wealth of information about safety and security, including fact sheets, available at: https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/safety_a/safe_and_secure/home If you have concerns about possible criminal activity in your local neighbourhood, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
