It remains uncertain as to when a vaccine will be available Every society has its own share of believers and non-believers, but if you have any doubts about what COVID-19 can do, please attempt to visit a dedicated COVID-19 ward in our city hospitals. Better still, offer volunteer work in our nursing homes where the disease has taken hold and has killed many of our elderly citizens. It has only just begun and the numbers will rise. What’s more, over 1000 healthcare professionals are sick, many in hospitals and intensive care. It’s terrible that families whose relatives are dying won’t be able to see them when the moment arrives! While COVID-19 is a mild viral illness for most of us, we need to behave responsibly for the sake of the more vulnerable sections of our population. There are almost 400 victorians in hospital now with almost 50 in intensive care. It must not be dismissed as a conspiracy or a joke. The ‘common cold’ does not have such an impact. Unless we all do the right thing, it won’t be long before someone in our family is going to get sick. Finally, the economic impact of the disease is incredible. The more responsibly we behave, the faster we can control the spread of the disease, the faster the economy recovers. Please maintain social distancing, wear a face mask and observe meticulous hand hygiene. Get tested if you have flu-like symptoms.
