21.01.2022 Our very own Dr. Hannah Chun disinfecting a patient’s big toe with prep solution prior to a minor in-office surgical procedure - partial nail avulsion (PNA) with phenolisation Ingrowing toenails are one of the most commonly seen podiatric conditions in our clinic. More often than not, patients present to the clinic with infection of the skin surrounding the nail due to an ingrowing nail. Left untreated, the infection could potentially spread further causing systemic iss...ues for the patient. Depending on the severity of the ingrown toenail, the offending nail can be non surgically removed at the initial consult which in most cases subsides the infection, otherwise a course of antibiotics may be required by your GP. If it is an ongoing issue the Podiatrist will discuss having a PNA for a long term solution to the condition. Do you have an ingrown toenail that has been worrying you? Don’t let it fester and come have it checked! Our Podiatrists at Manning Podiatry pride our gentle but skilled approach to conservatively or surgically removing an ingrown toenail. 08.12.2021 - Exercises for your Bunion - One of the associated causes of bunion deformities is the presence of muscle weakness in the foot, especially the intrinsic muscles that holds the bones in your foot together. Rehab therapy is generally recommended for our patients as part of their treatment plan. Note: these exercises are mainly prescribed to strengthen the soft tissue structures of the foot. They are not meant to "correct" bunion deformities. ... These exercises are as easy as their names suggest and they usually can be completed within 10 - 15 mins 1. Short foot exercise: shorten your foot by lifting the arch of your foot upwards with your forefoot and heel place firming on the ground. 2. Toe spreaders: fan your toes outwards 3. Toe curls: grab a towel / sock by curling your toes 4. Heel lifts: lift your heels by going up on your tippy toes. NB: Perform each exercise 5 times and repeat the set 3 times daily. All strength comes from repetition. Overtime, with some consistency and persistency, you will noticed your feet getting (& feeling) stronger. Don't take our word for it. Try them out yourself. #bunion #exercise #podiatry #manning

05.10.2021 - How To Treat An Ankle Injury At Home - Sprained ankles are not to take lightly, as sometimes, it might not be just a sprain. Treatment for an ankle injury often depends on the severity of an injury. However, if you are unable to access to health care services immediately after an injury, here are a few tips you can do to treat your ankle injury:... 1. RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) is recommended during the initial stage of an ankle injury (immediately after injury / sprain)to help with swelling for up to 24 - 48 hours. 2. After the injury, no HARM principle is encouraged during the first 48 - 72 hours to allow recovery to begin. The HARM acronym stands for No Heat, Alcohol, Running, Massage. 3. Crutches may be needed if walking is difficult / painful. Compression ankle brace may also be used to help support the ankle joint. 4. An appropriate rest and rehab protocol is crucial to allow full recovery of the sprained ankle ligaments. 5. Seek professional help for treatment immediately after an injury at the earliest possible time. #anklesprain #rice #noharm #podiatry
