24.01.2022 Do you have two hours to spare once a week? That’s all it takes to help a local family. Volunteer Family Connect is a home visiting program for parents of young children, which is delivered by trained volunteers. Volunteer Family Connect links a volunteer with a local parent who has identified that they need some extra support in their parenting role.... Volunteers may assist parents in adjusting to a new baby, coping with multiple children, overcoming feelings of isolation and frustration, or help with many other factors that can overwhelm parents and carers. Volunteers will provide respectful and confidential supports to families. Training and supervision are provided to support Family Connect Volunteers in their roles. We are enlisting volunteers now for Volunteer Family Connect. If you would like to join this worthwhile local program, please call Lisa at MSS on 6551 1800. 20.01.2022 We received this exciting update from Stephen Bromhead MP recently, which may help many of our Connected Families clients. "It’s a pleasure to announce that the NSW Government has committed $120 million to continue free preschool until the end of 2021. "This commitment will help ease cost of living pressures for our families. Providing access to free community and mobile preschools will offer more families, especially women, with a greater choice about paid work.... "This commitment will aim to assist more than 44,000 three to five years olds attending community and mobile preschools. "Free preschool was initially part of the COVID-19 response and has saved countless services, jobs and kept NSW children learning during some of their most critical years. "I am proud to see our NSW Government supporting families during the pandemic and now providing this certainty for parents into the future. "This funding will be made available to around 700 State-funded community preschools and 38 mobile preschool services. "Supporting families and children has been a priority for this Government during the pandemic, and we are committed to seeing it continue while we all recover from this pandemic." 14.01.2022 Today is White Ribbon Day, also known as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day takes place annually on 25 November. The UN defines violence against women as: Any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivations of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life. White Ribbon Austral...ia also notes that when women and people with diverse identities experience violence, the impact is worsened by structural inequalities that limit their access to health care, employment, services and other supports. Our Connected Families team has been working on a window display this year to help raise awareness of the day. Staff are also participating by wearing a white ribbon or something white to mark the occasion and start conversations. For more information, please visit https://www.whiteribbon.org.au/ You can also find links to many support resources under the "Find help" tab.
