25.01.2022 It is easy to focus on the overall well-being of our bodies and do all the right things, with appearance, exercise and diet, and at times lose sight of the need to look after our own dental health in the same way. Unfortunately there are instances where teeth get neglected or become a much lower priority. Teeth are very important as a chewing aid, to help us to eat and digest healthy foodstuffs, but they also play a significant role in appearance and how we smile. And of cour...se, their role in speech and communication is fundamental. With last week being Dental Health Week it is an excellent time for us to re-visit our priorities and make an appointment for a dental check-up. Remember the old saying "Prevention is better than cure". If you haven't had the health of your mouth checked in the last year, it is time to do so. The mouth is the mirror of health and disease, and when the dentist looks into your mouth he/she is not just checking your teeth. We check the health of your gums and we look around the oral cavity for any signs of other diseases including early signs of cancer. Children need to get into the habit of seeing the dentist early in childhood, firstly to check for signs of decay and other dental abnormalities, but also establish a positive and friendly relationship for the future. Sugar is enemy number one, and in Australia the excessive consumption of sugar and carbohydrates is well above the recommended level. A healthy, sugar free, diet is one way to avoid tooth decay. Why not call us to make a time for a check-up? Mannum Dental Surgery 8569 8175
24.01.2022 We are enjoying a return to "normality" but having said that, the new "norm" is different from what we have all been accustomed to and familiar with in the past. Everyone has suffered and we have all experienced disruptions and inconveniences as a result of the COVID-19 lifestyle imposed on us. Lifestyles have changed forever. And despite the huge economic problems and job losses, and all the tragic follow-on effects, the pandemic has forced everyone to have a re-think on how... we do things and our priorities. It has been a huge wake up call and a steep learning curve in many ways, and there are some real benefits to emerge. The community at large has had to change bad habits and we have all had to rationalize our behaviour and become smarter, wiser and more aware of the world around us. Out of the doom and gloom has come a new "norm". And Mannum is enjoying the chance to experience it. We are thankful that we are able to re-discover some of the pleasures we have had to sacrifice, and Mannum Dental is happy to be part of the new "norm". Hope to see you soon.
24.01.2022 COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS The most recent announcement by the Premier and the Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Spurrier, as a result of quarantine breaches has meant that dental surgeries are now under strict guidelines and protocol. We have a QR code at the surgery and everyone who enters the premises must check in using a smart phone. If you do not have a smart phone you must sign in on the relevant contact tracing form at reception. Furthermore everyone must wear a mask.... Here is a copy of the latest directive for dental surgeries: All patients entering the dental practice waiting areas MUST be wearing a mask, and have applied alcohol based hand rub Should the patient not have a mask, the dental practice should provide them with a mask When a dental assistant or dentist collects a patient from the waiting area, they must be wearing the mask that they will be using for that patient. The patient must keep the mask on at all times, until they are in the dental operatory with the dentist, and the patient will ONLY remove their mask, when both the dental assistant and dentist have their masks on. In the dental operatory the patient should be asked to place the mask in a dedicated 'dirty' area, with their belongings, and make sure that this area is wiped clean after every patient. While the COVID-19 virus is not difficult to destroy with detergent, it can remain in an infective state for many days if left undisturbed. Following dental treatment the patient will be instructed to place their mask over their mouth and nose and use alcohol based hand rub BEFORE they return to the waiting area. All patient appointments made should include prior notice to the patient that wearing a mask is mandated when attending the dental practice. In the case of a patient who attends without a mask and declines the offer of a mask, the dentist will need to triage the patient and at their discretion has the right to refuse to provide a consultation and treatment. This work practice effectively ensures that the patient has a mask on at all times when interacting with any staff member, except for when they are having treatment. The dentist and the dental assistant should be wearing their mask when the patient removes their mask. Meeting these requirements and recommendations will ensure that the dental profession have effective workplace mitigation risk strategies in place and are doing our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
23.01.2022 UPDATE ON CORONAVIRUS *Source ABC Health and Well-being. As the problem evolves, new information comes to hand and we need on-going vigilance. It is clear that indirect spread by innocent people touching contaminated objects with their bare hands is proving to be a common method of transmission of the disease.... It means that handwashing is absolutely essential. According to the latest advice: 1. You will not get sick if the virus goes no further than your hands, but if you touch your face you will have the virus in the area where it can enter your body and you will get sick. 2. The Coronavirus needs to get into certain cells in your body. It does so via either your mouth, your nose or your eyes. Your eyes are full of blood vessels, and so if you touch your eyes the virus leaps into your body via your eyes. The recommendations are: 1. Wash your hands well and often. 2. Try not to touch your face. You can use liquid soap or a bar of soap. Liquid soap is less likely to be contaminated than a bar of soap and this is an issue in public toilets. At home you can use either; but make sure you store the bar of soap on a drying rack, dont leave it in a pool of water. If you do not have access to soap and running water, then the next best thing to use is an alcohol based hand gel (Aqium) which contains at least 60% alcohol. Wash your hands THOROUGHLY and OFTEN and dont touch your face!
22.01.2022 CHILD DENTAL BENEFITS A reminder to all parents with children under 18 years old. It is important that all children have regular dental examinations and wherever possible parents should take advantage of the $1000 government subsidy to cover dental treatment.... Subject to eligibility, under the Child Dental Benefits Scheme, administered through Medicare, all costs are fully covered and parents can feel re-assured that their children's mouths are kept in a healthy state. If you are unsure of your eligibility please call or drop in and we can easily verify this for you. The $1000 is not per family, but $1000 for each individual child every 2 years. This is a very sensible and successful program and we encourage you to take advantage of what it offers your children. Call us on 8569 8175
15.01.2022 It has been a busy and happy week. Lifting the restrictions for COVID-19 means we have been able to return to normal treatment and provide patients with regular care. It is a good feeling for us and a good outcome for patients. We enjoy helping people and we relished the chance to treat patients without all the restrictions on what we can do. However, hand sanitizing and safe distancing is still relevant, and our staff are being very vigilant in ensuring that we are not breac...hing any rules in the reception and waiting area. Staying safe is important, and as well as implementing thorough infection control procedures in the surgery, we are allowing extra time in between patients to allow thorough disinfection of all chairs, hard surfaces, and other potentially contaminated items in the waiting room. It's good to be back offering a full service. Mannum Dental

08.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS UPDATE ** Sourced from ABC well being Transmission and spread of the virus from person to person can occur two ways:- 1. Droplet spread by inhalation and absorption of the virus as a result of an infected person coughing or sneezing and the aerosols disperse in the air around you. One way to partially reduce the risk of transmission by this method is to wear a mask. ...Continue reading
06.01.2022 THE TOUR DOWN UNDER IN MANNUM On Friday we took time out from our usual routine to enjoy the spectacle of the Tour Down Under as the riders rode through the main street of Mannum right past our surgery. Our staff joined in the fun and excitement of the day by decorating our street front with balloons and streamers. We enjoyed the moment as police cars led the way with lights flashing and sirens blaring and the riders in their colourful lycra massed together in a huge peleton ...as they swept passed our doors. The town was awash with tourists and locals who all lined the street waving banners and applauding as the riders headed off to the finishing line in Murray Bridge. Many of the visitors stayed to enjoy the ambiance of the river and to sample the local coffee. Everyone entered with the spirit of the day and gave the riders lots of encouragement. Well done, Mannum. See more
04.01.2022 Great news!! Many of the COVID-19 restrictions for dental treatment have been lifted and we are back to Level 1. This means we can proceed with all routine treatment. However under level 1 restrictions certain protocols and preventive measures still remain, and these must be followed: ... When you arrive for an appointment, and enter the waiting room, you must use the hand sanitizer provided. Social distancing rules still apply. This means that seating in the waiting room will be limited, and only two people will be permitted in the reception/waiting area at any time. If necessary please wait outside in your car and we will call you when we are ready for you. Newspapers, magazines and toys have been removed to reduce the risk of cross infection from touching contaminated surfaces and objects. Patients will be contacted a day before their appointment, and triaged over the phone to confirm that they are feeling well and do not have any symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, fever, cough or any signs of COVID- 19 infection. All patients whose existing appointments were cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic will be contacted in the coming days to reschedule their appointment(s). Please be assured you will not be forgotten. It is a time consuming process, but our staff are working through appointments systematically. Thank you for your understanding. Please phone 8569 8175 for emergency help. Mannum Dental.

03.01.2022 Christmas has come and gone and we are now back at work and looking forward to the challenges and excitment of the New Year. It has not been a good New Year for those who have suffered from the bushfires and experienced the loss of property, personal belongings and in many cases their livelihood. We empathise with them. Just a reminder to those patients who have private health funds that their benefits start again from January 1st and now is a good time to make an appointment... for the treatment you deferred from last year. The Tour Down Under goes through Mannum on Friday 24th of January and we are looking forward to an exciting and fun day. Happy New Year to Everyone. ON YOUR BIKE! Mannum Dental
02.01.2022 We are living in difficult times. The Coronavirus is a problem for all of us, and the safety and health of patients and staff is a priority. The Australian Dental Association has advised that only emergency dental procedures should continue for now. Over the next few days we will review any incomplete treatment using a triage process. Currently we are only taking bookings for emergency treatment- pain, broken teeth, broken dentures, traumatic injuries etc. We are contacting al...l of our patients who have appointments booked. Any treatment that is deemed not to be essential and unlikely to cause pain in the next 4 months will be delayed. This is taking some time and we ask for your patience while we work through triaging and contacting everyone. We will be available each day but our services will be limited to urgent treatment and emergencies. We would like to reassure the community that we will be here if you need urgent treatment. Please call us on : 8569 8175 This decision is one of the many difficult decisions that have been made and will be made throughout our community over the coming months. Thank-you for your co-operation and understanding.
01.01.2022 What is it about?? Christmas is unique. It is that special time of the year which has its own meaning and relevance to all of us in various ways. But no matter what significance we attach to Christmas and the festive season, the over-riding message is one of love and joy and happiness with families and with the people who occupy a special place in out hearts. And never has the need for that love and joy and happiness been greater than now. We have all had a tough year. It... is time to embrace the Christmas spirit. 2020 has been a year like no other. Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on our lives, our business, our traditions and customs, and it has turned the way we do things upside down. Sadly for many it has impacted on our jobs, our incomes and our travel plans. It has destroyed our aspirations, and it has alienated us from family members and friends. Living in isolation is not much fun. We have been forced to develop new ways of doing things. Creativity has found new meaning in our lives. Now is a time to apply the Christmas spirit to our lives, and make the joy and happiness we talk about a reality. It is the perfect time to ensure that the phrase "Merry Christmas" is not just some empty and hollow platitude. Christmas is a time of peace and goodwill. Lets do our part in turning it a reality. MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL OF US AT MANNUM DENTAL
