14.01.2022 A great read just copy and pasted for not just our pups off to their forever homes but any new to this breed as we always recommend lead work on road for excersize on young growing frames / Reminder - An important tip to take care of bulldog puppy bone growth: Don't let bulldogs run on slippery highly polished floors.... Just a little reminder of something I have forgotten to mention to all of you. Do not allow your new pups to run on slippery timber or highly polished floors. It's really easy for them to lose their grip and internally or externally rotate their joints. As you all now know for the first year the bones are as soft as cartilage and they are short and do not reach the joints. All the pup has to do is twist a little and the neck of the femur can completely dislocate and pop out of their very shallow acetabulum which is the socket the head of the femur sits in. They are always shallow in bulldogs so we take care in the first two years as it takes that long for the large muscle groups, ligaments, and tendons to grow and provide a secure sound structure around the hip joint. Dislocation is so easy in these kids and once that occurs the ligaments and other soft tissues also stretch. Running on grass or carpet or something that they can grip on is far less dangerous but if you can slip on the floor with socks on that is not an appropriate surface to let your puppy run in. At 18 months to two years the larger muscle groups, ligaments, and soft tissue have generally got a good grip around that bone and shallow socket so until then please stay safe. No jumping down off anything lift them down. Upstairs is fine but not down. Lounges and beds are fine but lift them down or they push their front legs back into the elbow and shoulder joint, this causes damage to the epiphyseal plates the area in their long bones that is responsible for bone growth. If these osteocytes and other cells get damaged they may grow abnormally and cause problems requiring surgery. No Rumbling with children or other dogs.
