22.01.2022 Teaching Your Dog to Recall How to train your dog to come when called is such an important skill for people to teach their dogs. So how to do it? Here are 3 recall training tips to get you started. Highly prized treats... If there is ever a time to use highly-prized treats to train your dog, then its when youre teaching them the recall command. Keep control Use a long lead while training your dog to come on command. Reward them with a highly prized treat when they come to you voluntarily or after a bit of encouragement. Give one clear, consistent command Be honest, how many different names, phrases or voices do you use when you call your dog? Its okay, we all do it. But using different words, terms and tones of voice can be really confusing for our dog. The key is staying calm and using a consistent command in the same constant tone of voice. https://youtu.be/yG2fThlroCc

13.01.2022 An excellent mornings training. It was so good to see some sun again and all the dogs were on their best behaviour ... well, nearly all of them. Even Maggie May did a perfect sit-stay! Have a look at Jimmys excellent recall.

13.01.2022 Recently, two dogs achieved results in tracking. Congratulations to Daisy Girl who gained a Very Good for TD Test 5 and Caniche TD XC Champion who passed Test 8.

12.01.2022 This week’s doggie profile: Fritz, who is a 9 yr old Standard Schnauzer, came to us 7 years ago and has been coming to the Mansfield Dog Obedience Club for over 5 years. He loves it. He is a gentle giant whom we love dearly. My daughter Renee brings him each week. Jewels came to us 12 months ago as another rescue. Her owner due to medical conditions was unable to keep her. She is a lovely dog, 6 yrs old and very lively so she needs a lot of exercise. She is a companion for... Fritz and they run together a lot. She is now going to the Dog club and is becoming a fast learner. We have been very lucky to have the privilege of looking after them. Penny Prosser See more

09.01.2022 Until further notice, therell be no Sunday Obedience Training classes by the Mansfield & District Obedience Dog Club. However, we can keep practising our obedience exercises at home and to help you do this, we will be putting up some posts and lessons every week. The most important thing is for everyone to stay safe and well.

08.01.2022 Heres something to make you smile. Sometimes just participating and doing your best is all you can do ... https://youtu.be/GjqtwNUE148

07.01.2022 This week, we would like to introduce Shirley and Ralph. Shirley has been a member of the club for 7 years and is an occasional trainer. Her lovely, loyal Ralph is a Tasmanian Smithfield (not to be confused with a Queensland Smithfield!) who is in Class 4 for obedience and is also training for agility. Smithfields are friendly, patient, and good with children. However, they are a working dog (bred as a herding dog) and require regular exercise and stimulation: Ralph loves chasing a ball, doing agility and flyball. And most of all, he loves Shirley!

07.01.2022 ANZAC DAY Thursday 25 April 2019. Remember the Military dogs. They served too. Wear a purple poppy to honour them, and their handlers.

06.01.2022 Last Sunday, the club hosted its Chat & BBQ morning. We were blessed with clear and sunny weather and although numbers were a bit down, everyone had a fun time. Dogs and owners enjoyed the agility course and the flyball jumps, while the trialling hopefuls were put through their paces by Marg Maloney, who is a trained obedience dog judge. There were some standout performances and the sit stays were fantastic! Thank you to Fern and Jackie who helped organise the day.

05.01.2022 We’re back! Due to the easing of restrictions in regional Victoria, the Dog Club will resume classes this Sunday, 20th September. Classes will be limited to 10 people. So spread the word, dust off the lead and buy some new treats and we’ll see you on Sunday.

05.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we tell you that Judiths lovely Rory died yesterday. Rory was one of the first members of the club, who loved flyball jumps and agility and enjoyed meeting all her friends every Sunday. Farewell, Rory.
