19.01.2022 Our planet doesn't need AfterPay, Zip and other "Buy Now Pay Later" services. They encourage people to buy more, more expensive and more spontaneous. The result?... Manufacturing more items have a huge cost. 30% of fossil fuel emissions come from manufacturing goods. Add to this the emissions coming from transport (international shipment + your local delivery) Manufacturing products creates lots of toxic waste and require tons of freshwater (in textile productions, electronics, gold etc.) Unwanted items end up in landfill unless they are properly recycled or re-used Perhaps it is time for those actors to play a more educational role for their customer and teach them to consume better (and less). When you want something, ask yourself if you really need it. Artwork by @aj_nye #sustainableliving #consumerismsucks #zerowaste #wecantkeepdoingthis

17.12.2021 We need to reduce our consumption of meat products in our alimentation. How can you shift to eat less beef? Can you replace your dairy with plant-based milk? As an example: producing 100 grams of protein from Beef emits ~50kg of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2eq). To get the same amount of protein from eggs, emissions would be nearly 12 times lower, at 4 kgCO2eq. And for 100g of pees, nearly 120 times lower at 0.44kgCO2eq!... The documentary Cowspiracy is a classic one that everybody should watch. It explores the impact of animal agriculture on the environment and investigates the policies of environmental organizations on this issue at the time of the release, 2014 barely any worldwide NGO would talk about this. Although food production is responsible for only one-quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, our diet and food choices have a significant impact on our carbon footprint. The doco is well made. It has been executive-produced by DiCaprio and does not show any gore images of animal cruelty. The main focus is the environmental impact. Do you think you need meat to get protein and perform in sports? Think again. Gamechanger follows scientists and top athletes on a quest to find the optimal diet for human performance and health. Both available on Netflix. At Manyana, we are not 100% vegan but we know the impact of our diet on the world and act accordingly. It's all about balance and doing our bit when we can.
