13.01.2022 Hi All, Been a busy couple of weeks at Many Rooms, as we navigate the COVID-19 situation and continue to shine the light of love, justice and hope in our world. With our Kitchen venues closing and our access to care recipients through the Living Room are quarantined, we're getting creative. The homeless and disadvantaged still need to eat, the elderly who are isolated still need connection..... ... With strict hygiene protocols and permission from our venues, we set up outside with take away food packs this week - We fed 88 people last night and nearly 20 this morning. So thankful for those of you who still volunteered regardless. We'll continue like this while we can and look for more creative ideas to feed and love those who need it most in our community - especially at this time. In the mean time - we're all practicing social distances and making the most of what we can - please pray for our participants and care recipients at this time.

10.01.2022 During the lockdown, being in isolation has taught many of us the importance of relationships and their valuable impact on our mental health. Currently, 40% of older people living in Aged Care Residences do not receive visits and have limited meaningful interactions with other people. Social isolation is an every day reality. At the Living Room our Community Visitor's Scheme, volunteers have been visiting older persons in their community, building relationships and helpin...g them out of social isolation. While physical visits were not possible, volunteers got creative with their visiting! From phone and video calls, to letter writing, to sending flowers and giftsthese faithful relationships have made a significant impact in the life of an older person experiencing loneliness. If you would like to get involved, visit: manyrooms.org.au/livingroom to sign up as a volunteer. Spending just 1 hour of quality time a fortnight with an older person can change their life.

If you would like to be involved: Fill out this form: bit.ly/covid19reliefcarepacks to ensure the safety of all involved, we have several collection points for Care Packs and will direct you to your local location upon registration. Purchase the items on the packing list Put your packs together Deliver your Care Packs to your nearest collection point! 06.01.2022 Have a read of this awesome connection between one of our volunteers, Emily, and her care recipient! At The Living Room, we love hearing about these beautiful coincidences between our volunteers and their care recipients as they spend time together, learning about each other's lives and forming a friendship. During this pandemic, our volunteers have been excellent at keeping connected to their older friends through digital calls, letter writing and even parcel deliveries! ... If you know an older person who would benefit from a regular visitor, go to www.manyrooms.org.au/livingroom to check out the care recipient criteria and refer a friend!

02.01.2022 A few weeks ago we partnered with 7 baskets to provide warm, nutritious meals to young people at risk of homelessness through Melbourne City Mission - MCM and City of Melbourne. Well, the reviews are in! "Michael described the meals as his only reliable food source. He is currently staying in crisis accommodation and has found it difficult to access healthy, wholesome meals. Michael has constantly told the staff how thankful he is and how important this has been for his heal...th during this time." Jake was a client of Frontyard when he was sleeping rough on the streets of Melbourne. He recently moved into his own apartment and was severely lacking in food, so came into Frontyard to get support. We provided him with a hot meal and a few takeaways. His response? 'This is awesome!' I enjoy the food that gets delivered to us daily. It’s delicious and you get to have a chat with the workers who pop by. It’s nice getting out of the room to have a chat. Thanks!

02.01.2022 Our incredible Living Room Volunteers (Community Visitor's Scheme) have continued to meet with their elderly care recipients during this pandemic through phone calls, Skype, and some good old fashioned letter writing! The value of friendship has become evident to many of us during this lockdown. Being connected to others and knowing someone cares can combat the experience of loneliness and help an isolated older person reconnect with their wider community. It can significantly improve one's quality of life and is beneficial for both the volunteer and care recipient. To become a volunteer, visit: manyrooms.org.au/livingroom
