25.01.2022 A recent article in the @guardianaustralia gave an insight into the men and women who come from the Pacific to pick in Australia. For the farms they work on, these workers are a huge asset, and, since the pay is comparatively quite high, some workers admit it’s a life-changing opportunity. But this kind of ‘opportunity’ comes with a high personal cost.... In the article we hear from a single mother who has left her children behind, marriages have fallen apart and healthcare can be hard to access. It is essential that all Australian businesses create a safe environment for everybody in every sense of the word. The responsibility of taking someone away from their homeland should be taking seriously, beyond just legislative requirements work with community partners who have competencies that you may not. 12.01.2022 As the working year comes to a close, we hope you’re making space to have a proper break over the holiday period. For the past 18 months I’ve had the great privilege of serving on the Community Advisory Group for the @sunshinecoastcouncil One of the projects I’ve advised on is the Draft Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy.... The strategy seeks to manage the impacts of #coastalhazards, like erosion and inundation, on our coast and our communities from now, through to the year 2100. For me this is the beginning of the discussion that's going to last for the next 70 years: how are we going to adapt to the massive impacts that are going to happen along our coastline as a result of climate change? It’s worth having a look at the plan, and at Council’s cool mapping tool that allows you to zoom in on your street and community to see the predicted impacts: https://haveyoursay.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/our-resilient- See more

01.01.2022 10 December is Human Rights Day. What are human rights? They’re the rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, gender or any other status. ... You’re probably wondering why human rights matter to business? When it comes to businesses, upholding human rights is not only required by law, but companies associated with human rights harm experience financial, legal, reputational and stakeholder relations risks. And here’s the secret - supporting the rights and well-being of all people around the world is not only the right thing to do, but it can contribute to a healthy bottom line and company sustainability.
