24.01.2022 There is one week left of the Heartworm program! We are offering free heartworm tests for dogs not currently on any or consistent prevention and transition to the yearly proheart injection during the month of May. Heartworm is a deadly parasite that lives in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of dogs. Heartworms are transferred through mosquito bites and travel through the blood system. This means that we are implementing a "Limited Contact" Protocol whereby we are once again, allowing clients to enter our facility. ... PRIOR TO BOOKING: - If you have been exposed to someone with Covid-19 or are feeling unwell, ring us to discuss how we can manage your unwell pet - If you have travelled internationally or interstate in the last 14 days, please call us to discuss how we can manage your unwell pet - Online bookings will not be accepted during these Stage 2 procedures - Payments can be made via cash or EFTPOS/credit card. LIMITED CONTACT POLICY: - We have implemented a Covid-19 limited contact policy to protect our staff, clients and community. 21.01.2022 Getting to know the vets at the Maraboon vet surgery! Dr. Sasha Watene - Veterinarian Sasha joined the MVS team in October 2016. Growing up on a small hobby farm on the Atherton Tablelands, Sasha's love for animals led her to graduating from a Bachelor of Vet Science at JCU, Townsville. After uni, Sasha and her husband moved straight to Emerald. After a few years practicing at a local clinic and two beautiful daughter’s later, Sasha came back to work part-time at MVS. With great skills in surgery and a passion for medicine and orthopaedics, Sasha is a fantastic vet who treats all her patients with kindness and compassion. At home Sasha and her family love spending time with their small clutch of chickens and a gorgeous munchkin kitten named Smokey.

Dr. Angela Sutherland - Veterinarian Dr Angi is a Canadian turned Australian who originally graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2005. After her studies, she worked in a mixed animal practice, followed by 3 years in Florida USA at a specialty small animal referral practice. Following her desire to travel, Dr Angi then spent 1 year in Australia working throughout the country at various practices. She o...riginally joined our team temporarily for the month of May 2010 and then spent 10 weeks instructing final year veterinary students at the James Cook University in Townsville. Dr Angi then rejoined our team as a full time permanent Veterinarian in September 2010, and purchased the practice with her husband in October 2011. Dr Angi's areas of expertise include orthopaedics, dermatology and reproduction. Be sure to look out for Dr Angi's golden retriever, Cooper, at the back of the clinic, either keeping an eye on the happenings or more likely - having a snooze. See more

17.01.2022 If youre planning a fishing trip this weekend make sure to keep your cat away from all your gear! Mr Oscar tried to help his owner unpack after their fishing trip but got caught up in some lures. He was rushed into the clinic and all the lures were removed and he is now recovering well at home.

16.01.2022 Getting to know the vets at the Maraboon Vet Surgery! Dr. Rachel Mallyon - Veterinarian Dr Rachel is a local girl who grew up in Springsure and went on to study Veterinary Science at James Cook University in Townsville. She graduated in December 2012 and has been employed at the Maraboon Vet since January 2013. Dr Rachel is a go-getter and every patient she handles is treated with respect, kindness and high quality medicine. Dr Rachel's favourite part of the job is conducting surgery and she is always looking for ways to expand her veterinary expertise. Dr Rach is also a fantastic role model and mentor for our veterinary nurse team, often supervising and guiding them through their qualifications. At home, Dr Rach has two beautiful sons, an incredible geeko-hunting Jack Russell named Hank, two chickens and a couple of horses.

11.01.2022 Getting to know the vets at the Maraboon vet surgery! Dr. Benita Vallance - Veterinarian Dr. Benita joined the Maraboon Family in 2020. After coming back from maternity leave and moving from Moranbah, Dr Benita found us and joined the practice, and we couldn't be luckier! With a degree from UQ and years of experience in the small animal veterinary world, Benita's extensive knowledge is a real asset to our team. She enjoys the medicine side of veterinary work and has a BIG passion for wildlife, which has been fantastic for our local team of wildlife carers. At home with her husband and two kids, Benita also has two kelpies, George and Nellie and a pretty cool cat named Brick.

This position is fast-paced, high pressure but highly rewarding, working amongst one the best and more supportive teams in the Central Highlands. Our veterinary nurses are our most important team members, playing a pivotal role in our hospit...al operations. Responsibilities cover a wide range of duties including; assisting with hospital and day patient treatment and procedures; monitoring surgery patient care (including anaesthetic monitoring); blood sampling, catheterisation and in-house diagnostic testing; consultation nurse during (including client education, assisting the vet and billing); cleaning; surgical instrument sterilisation; upholding WHS protocols as well as; advanced animal handling as well as; assisting with reception duties (taking phone calls, greeting and discharging patients and payment handling). 09.01.2022 We have some exciting news!! Dr Sasha and Dr Angi have just completed some comprehensive training to surgically treat Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome! Sadie is one of our lovely patients who has just had the corrective surgery, not that you can tell! Any Brachycephalic dog (short faced dogs) are at risk of this syndrome and can show signs of breathing loudly, snoring and struggling to exercise. This surgery helps restore their ability to breathe without struggle a...nd it can even prolong their lives. 08.01.2022 EXCITING THINGS HAPPENING AT MPR! When life gives you lemons make lemonade!! As the Pet Resort was required to close for helping flatten the curve of COVID 19. Dr Angi and her Husband Alec decided what a perfect opportunity to take a small step toward their next dream. The temporary admin building that was situated on top of our already poured concrete slab for our dream admin building has been shifted. Being closed provided us an excellent opportunity to move the bui...lding so that when we decide to build the next stage we are ready to go. Now unfortunately with current state of things we still have an undecided date for the next stage to be built but at least we are ready to go when the time become right! So once we open again on May 11 please dont think you have gone crazy as yes the admin building has been moved LOL. As everyone knows we are a local owned family operated small business, so a few photos of Alec our amazing Dad, handyman, booker keeper, banker, crane operating, all arounder/can do everything Superstar with our beautiful kids.
