24.01.2022 Such an interesting article. We currently have 5 working oxygen concentrators (all of which have just been serviced) but we are aware of how lucky we are compared to many other clinics in Uganda! With growing numbers of Covid-19 in Africa, this is a really important issue.

22.01.2022 Give monthly to ensure children can access the high quality care they deserve: We know that there are no quick-solutions to poverty and broken health systems. We are committed to our community for the long-haul, to see children thriving and able to access life-saving care. To do this, we need your help. MaranathaPARTNERS are monthly givers, and they are crucial for ensuring the long term sustainability of our work in Uganda.... Visit www.maranathahealth.org/partner to sign up, then share this post!

22.01.2022 PPE - it is something that is now entrenched in our vocabulary! A year ago, I had really only heard it referenced in relation to the Ebola outbreaks that are common in East Africa. Now, we daily hear (necessary) demands from Australian healthcare works for PPE, in order to protect themselves. Today, I approved expenditure for the MH Hospital for some more PPE. Its an extremely modest order, and if Covid takes off in Uganda, it will be only a drop in the ocean of what we need. But this small order will cost us almost A$1000! If you would like to contribute to this please visit: www.givenow.com.au/maranathahealth

21.01.2022 We would love to connect with you face-to-face, and say thank you for sticking with the MH Family through a difficult year! Put it in the diary - the 29th May! Only 2 weeks to go!

21.01.2022 In an exciting new partnership, Adelaide Paediatrics have generously been offering volunteer administration support to Maranatha Health. This ensures that we can continue to process donations in a highly professional way without any cost to Maranatha Health! Having this work undertaken in a volunteer capacity ensures that even more funds can go direct to MH Uganda to make an impact. A special thank you to the leadership team at Adelaide Paediatrics for establishing the partnership, as well as receptionist Jessica who is volunteering with us. Welcome!

20.01.2022 Peter* is nine years old, and has been treated at our hospital regularly for the last 5 years. He comes from a neighboring district and has a chronic condition called sickle cell anemia. After several months without a visit, Peter was admitted a week ago with a complication of the disease. At 3 years of age Peter was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, and was getting his treatment from a local clinic - but kept falling critically ill. After attending many different clinics i...n the region, the family heard about ‘a good clinic for children’ and so visited Maranatha Health. Peter’s father shared passionately about his experience of MH: The first time we arrived at MH, we were given good care, given much attention by the health workers, Peter was treated well, and we got more education about [how to] care for children with sickle cell. Peter's life improved greatly and we chose to always bring him to Maranatha whenever he falls sick. He now takes about eight months without falling sick. We love being able to provide ongoing care for patients like Peter, and getting to journey with his parents long term makes it easier to provide holistic care and education. There are many children in Peter's situation around our region, as sickle cell anemia is a common and debilitating condition in our part of the world where malaria is so prevalent. We continue to look for ways to raise awareness about our services and find children who need ongoing support who are currently suffering without this, in remote areas. This way, we can offer them ongoing treatment and walk alongside of families to help them manage the illness and inherent challenges of raising a child with sickle cell anemia. If you would like to help MH provide ongoing care for more children like Peter, visit www.maranathahealth.org/partner to set up a regular donation!

16.01.2022 We are very grateful to some loyal friends of Maranatha Health for gifting us some useful clinical textbooks to add to our growing library! Staff who have been away studying (via our Scholarship program) are currently on an enforced break from school due to Covid lock down. During this strange time of limbo, as they wait for universities to reopen, this package of books has been a great morale booster and will also help for many years to come!

09.01.2022 Just a shout-out to all the generous individuals who gave to Maranatha Health before the End Of the Financial Year! It has been a tough few months in Uganda (as it has been in many places around the world), and like many organisations, it has been difficult to plan for the various potential challenges we are facing. But despite the economic downturn in Australia, you responded with generosity and care. Thanks everyone, for standing with us and the children of Uganda during this time. If you would like to become an MH partner and set up regular donations to ensure the long term sustainability of our work, please visit www.givenow.com.au/maranathahealth to set up a monthly donation via credit card or direct debit.

09.01.2022 Share 'Gifts of Life' for Christmas 2020 - https://mailchi.mp/d1ad0864/giftoflifethischristmas-4640752

07.01.2022 In a recent press release, UNICEF shared an estimate by researchers at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health that "an additional 6,000 children could die every day from preventable causes over the next six months as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to weaken health systems and disrupt routine services". They listed Uganda as one of 10 countries that could see the most number of additional child deaths. The team at Maranatha Health have already seen some devastatin...g effects due to the lockdown measures in Uganda. As a tertiary health care service, we will continue to fight to see thousands of children get the life-saving care they deserve, in these challenging times. Now more than ever, our community in Uganda is counting on us. If you would like to partner with us and become a part of the solution, visit www.givenow.com.au/maranathahealth to give a tax-deductible donation before the EOFY. Or, even better, sign up to give monthly, to help us for the long-haul so we can plan on a reliable income as we serve our community!

07.01.2022 We are looking forward to seeing you at the MH Supporters Brunch this weekend! Join us for some quality coffee, yummy pastries, a chance to see each other face-to-face, and hear about our impact in Uganda in the past year...

05.01.2022 A big welcome to our new Doctor, Dr Kevin, who finished his internship last year in Fort Portal, and has joined our MH Uganda team right in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns around the country! We are really excited to have him involved in MH - he brings great skills and energy to our team. Since May, Kevin has been working closely with Dr Zish to grow his clinical skills and learn the ropes at Maranatha Health. He has this to say: "I am Dr Akampurira Kevin Muh...eru, who hails from Western Uganda, but grew up in Kampala city. I developed a passion for medicine in my early childhood, heavily inspired by a family friend and the doctors that often treated me as I child. Having diligently pursued that dream, I'm delighted to now serve with Maranatha Health, extending the love of Christ to the community through offering my expertise. I aspire to further pursue a career in surgery and hope to work with Maranatha for the foreseeable future and grow alongside the organization." If you would like to partner with MH by contributing to the salaries of our essential and hardworking clinical staff, visit www.givenow.com.au/maranathahealth and choose the regular amount you wish to give. Then, tick the box 'I want to leave a message for the organisation' and write "clinical staff". :)
