24.01.2022 Good afternoon athletes, parents and the broader Baw Baw community Our Club, which is affiliated with Little Athletics Victoria is embarking on an exciting phas...e, to which will not only benefit the current and future athletes of the Club but also benefit many sporting clubs and people within the Baw Baw community. Over the next couple of years, the Club is looking at progressing applications for funding at both a local and state government level, to implement a synthetic athletics track and accompanying state of the art facilities for field events at the Geoff Watt Track. In addition to providing long overdue infrastructure improvements to the facility for athletics, including schools in the Baw Baw community, to utilise for their school and inter school sport days (possibly Regional carnivals too), it also provides other sporting clubs (football, netball, soccer and running clubs as an example) to access these facilities to potentially utilise for training as well as the general population within the community to improve general fitness as well as mental health and well being. With superior facilities, it promotes the opportunity for greater participation which benefits everyone! As you would be aware, the Baw Baw Shire has opened its Budget submissions for the upcoming 2021-22 Annual Budget and we would welcome open letters and emails channeled to the Shire via this forum, supporting the reasons and benefits for upgrading these facilities. The more submissions made to endorse this project, the more likely we will be in obtaining support from the Council. Our initial request in the upcoming budget will be to have allocated sufficient funds to have plans drawn up and approved, and hence moving the project onto the Shire’s Long Term Infrastructure Plan (LTIP). Once the project is on this plan, then we can progress to seek funding from local and state governments. If you could please take the time to write your submission and encourage anyone you know (family, friends, acquaintances, networks) that you think would benefit from such a facility to also send their submission to endorse the project. The Club will look to present to all Councillors on Wednesday May 19th for a facility that is not only for the athletes of today, but athletes of tomorrow as well as the Baw Baw Community to utilise.
