12.01.2022 Todays Featured Face is Ken Wright, Class of 1973. Ken has been called a brilliant teenage prodigy who represented his country in the key fly half position aged just 19. He was the first student of Marcellin College who was an Aussie Schoolboys representative and then went on to play for the Wallabies. In his final year at Marcellin, Ken played in the A Grade Rugby League and the Waratah Shield (Rugby Union) teams and was also a member of the Senior Athletics Squad. Whil...e in Year 12 he was selected in the Australian Schools team which toured the U.K. in 1973/74. It did not take national selectors long to recognise his glaring talents and he played his first senior representative rugby after just four first grade games. In 1975 he sealed Sydneys stunning 14-10 win over England with a brilliant individual try and eleven days later made his Test debut at the SCG. Wright had one of the most devastating side steps to ever grace an Australian rugby field, a sound kicking game and an excellent strategic understanding of attacking backline play. Ken was also an active member and competitor of Coogee Surf Club where he won numerous State and National titles. Ken played nine Rugby Union Tests for Australian in a four-year representative career which lasted until the end of 1978 when, in 1979, he converted to rugby league and joined Eastern Suburbs and later South Sydney in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership competitions. Ken was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000. Ken holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Master of Commerce degree both from the University of NSW. He was appointed a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants in 1998. Ken still works and lives in our local area. We are very proud of this fine Marcellin Graduand a good Christian and good citizen #wemarists #goodchristiansgoodcitizens #MCR #AeternaNonCaduca #MCRcentenary2023 Credit: https://www.classicwallabies.com.au/pl/kenneth-james-wright

01.01.2022 We received an unexpected donation at school today! One of our Year 12 students, John, has a part-time job at Officworks Alexandria. Two large bags were placed near his work locker containing sanitisers, wipes and antiseptic, all for Marcellin College. Johns Manager had very generously organised this much appreciated supply for our school and John kindly delivered it to Mr Woolfords Office this morning. We are very grateful to Officeworks Alexandria and it is testament to the great work they do building meaningful connections with the local communities. See more of their great work here: https://www.officeworks.com.au//sustaina/local-communities and be sure to offer them a big thank you from all of us if you are shopping in their store.
